Outcome results before and after the race were compared by using McNemar test for qualitative data and Wilcoxon signed-rank test for quantitative data, in modified intent-to-treat and per-protocol analyses. Whether the increase in urinary biomarkers of kidney damage following the race reflects structural kidney injury or a simple metabolic adaptation to strenuous exercise needs to be clarified.Purpose To compare the impact of two different training intensity distributions in terms of conditional and performance parameters and spent time to training in recreational athletes. Methods Two different training intensity distribution model were performed for 8 weeks by 38 recreational runners. Runners recruited were randomly assigned to 2 different training models based on HR intensity detected with maximal test. The percentage distribution splitted in zone 1, 2, and 3 were by 77/3/20 and 40/50/10 in polarized endurance training group (PET) and focused endurance training (FOC) group, respectively. Programs were balanced for total training impulse (TRIMP). To evaluate effects of training, before and after treatment were performed a maximal exercise test to determine Maximal Oxygen Uptake (V'O2max), Ventilatory Threshold (VT), respiratory-compensation point (RCT) Running Economy (RE), and 2 Km performance. To investigate the effects of training on muscular performance were performed one repetition maximum (1 RM), squat jump (SJ), and counter movement jump (CMJ). Results Both groups significantly improved their velocity at V'O2max (3.2 and 4.0%), at VT (4.0 and 3.2%), RCT (5.7 and 3.4%), the average velocity in 2 Km performance (3.5 and 3.0%) and RE (-5.3 and -8.7%) for PET and FOC, respectively for each variable. No differences were found between the groups on any parameter investigated except about the total training time (PET = 29.9 ± 3.1 h and FOC = 24.8 ± 2.0 h). To test these hypotheses, we investigated the gaze behavior and kicking performance of intermediate skilled soccer players taking penalty kicks in three differing advertisement conditions, namely no advertisement, a stationary advertisement, and a moving advertisement. The latter condition consisted of an advertisement moving from left to right and an advertisement moving from right to left. Results showed that a moving advertisement placed behind the goal area indeed caught the visual attention of soccer penalty kickers using a goalkeeper-dependent kicking strategy. Participants kicking performance tended to be less variable within the no advertisement condition compared to the moving advertisement condition. In addition, systematic, direction-specific effects on aiming were found when comparing conditions in which the advertisement moved in opposite directions. This pattern of findings indicate that the accuracy of the penalty kick is impacted by task-irrelevant contextual information.It is proposed that reduced function in one of the spinal systems (active, passive, and neural) outlined by Panjabi could increase the risk of experiencing a low back injury (LBI). Also proposed is that reduced function in any one system can be compensated for by adjusting the time-varying recruitment of trunk muscles. This study addressed whether those with reduced active system function (WEAK), measured as back extensor strength, would have different trunk muscle activation patterns than those with higher function (STRONG), and secondly whether this relationship would be modified following recovery from a LBI. Sixty men participated, 30 recently recovered from LBI (rLBI, 4-12 weeks post injury) and 30 who had not had a LBI in the last year (ASYM). ASYM and rLBI participants were separated into STRONG and WEAK sub-groups if their isometric back extensor strength was above or below their group median, respectively. Trunk electromyograms from 24 muscle sites were recorded during a highly controlled horizontal ion patterns only in response to changes in the dynamic moments. Interactions captured that the recent experience of pain (rLBI) modified the magnitude of adjustment in muscle activation patterns potentially adapting to an increased risk of instability (painful flare) events associated with a deficit (lower strength) of the active system.An optimal coupling between perception and action is crucial for successful performance in sports. In basketball, for example, a stable fixation onto the basket helps to gain precise visual information of the target to successfully throw a basketball into the basket. In basketball-defense situations, however, opposing players cutting to the basket can be detected by using peripheral vision as less precise information are sufficient to mark this player. Those examples elucidate that to solve a given task foveal and peripheral vision can be used to acquire the necessary information. Following this reasoning, the current state of our framework will be presented that allows one to predict the functionality of one or the other or both depending on the current situation and task demands. In more detail, for tasks that require high motor precision like in far-aiming tasks, empirical evidence suggests that stable foveal fixations facilitate inhibitory processes of alternative action parameterization over movement planning and control.
