To develop an iron-based solid lipid nanoparticle (SLN) absorbable by the intestinal wall and assess the differential diagnostic value of intestinal lesions in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

SLNs were prepared with the simultaneous loading of trivalent Fe ions (Fe
), levodopa methyl ester (DM), and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC). We evaluated the particle size, loading rate, encapsulation efficiency, and cytotoxicity of SLNs. The T
contrast effects of the FeDM-FITC-SLNs and gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) were compared in different mouse models acute ulcerative colitis (AUC), chronic ulcerative colitis (CUC), colon adenocarcinoma (COAD), and normal control. MRI was performed in the same mouse with intravenous injection of GBCA on day 1 and enema of FeDM-FITC-SLNs on day 2. The signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) were compared using one-way analysis of variance. Tissues were then collected for histology.

The average particle size of FeDM-FITC-SLN was 220 nm. The mean FeDM loading rate was 94.3%, and the encapsulation efficiency was 60.3%. The relaxivity was 4.02 mM
·s
. After enema with FeDM-FITC-SLNs, MRI showed the following contrast enhancement duration AUC = COAD > normal > CUC. Confocal fluorescence microscopy confirmed that FeDM-FITC-SLNs were mainly distributed in the intestinal mucosa and tumor capsule.

Iron-based SLNs are promising alternatives for contrast enhancement at T1-weighted MRI and will help in the differential diagnosis of intestinal bowel diseases (IBDs).

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) pretreatment can enhance the therapeutic effect of dental follicle stem cells-derived small extracellular vesicles (DFC-sEV) for periodontitis, and this study aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms and clinical application Of LPS-preconditioned DFC-sEV in periodontitis.

The protein spectrum of DFC-sEV before and after LPS pretreatment was determined by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry and bioinformatic analysis. Their effects on inflammatory periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) and macrophages were investigated for cell proliferation, migration, type 2 macrophage (M2) polarization, and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels separately. In addition, the regulation of ROS/Jun amino-terminal kinases (JNK) and ROS/extracellular signal-related kinases (ERK) signaling by LPS-preconditioned DFC-sEV was also studied to reveal the antioxidant mechanism. In vivo, two kinds of DFC-sEV loaded with 0.2% hyaluronic acid (HA) gel were applied for canine peri-preconditioned DFC-sEV could be effectively used as an auxiliary method for periodontitis treatment via antioxidant effects in a subgingival environment, and loading it with HA is feasible and effective for clinical applications.
High blood pressure is one of the main modifiable risk factors for dementia. However, it remains unclear whether lowering the blood pressure effectively prevents cognitive impairment. Our objective was to explore the association between the prevalence, medication adherence and control of hypertension and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) among elderly individuals in northern China.

A two-stage clustering sampling method was used, and 9036 participants aged ≥65 years were included in the analysis. The Mini-Mental State Examination and activities of daily living were used to assess participants' cognitive function. Demographic characteristics (gender, age, marital status, education level, occupation), history and duration of hypertension, use of antihypertensive medications (AHMs) and its control effect were obtained.

The prevalence of MCI in all participants was 18.1%, and the prevalence of MCI was significantly higher in hypertensive subjects than in normotensive subjects (19.7% vs 16.2%,
< 0.01). Fhypertensives should be screened for MCI to provide improved diagnoses and optimal therapeutics for cognitive decline prevention, especially in poor AHM adherence.
Non-adherence is a major concern in the treatment of diabetes mellitus and undermines the goals of treatment. The objective of this study was to determine the magnitude of non-adherence and its contributing factors among diabetes mellitus patients attending the diabetes mellitus clinic at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

To assess prevalence and factors contributing to non-adherence to antidiabetic medication among diabetes mellitus patients in the diabetic clinic at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

A descriptive cross-sectional study was adopted at the diabetes clinic, Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, between July and October 2020. Study participants were systemically sampled, and data regarding their medication non-adherence was collected using a structured questionnaire, based on the Hill-Bone medication adherence scale. Data entry was done using Microsoft Excel Version 2010, and analysis was carried out using STATA version 13. The odds ratio was used to determine the strength of associations in Uganda. Patients with age above 60 years were six times more likely to be non-adherent to their anti-diabetic medications. Patient education is important to address the challenges of medication non-adherence.
To introduce an alternative prechop technique without or with the use of a modified universal chopper (AE-2591, HI Kim chopper, ASICO, Inc. USA).

Patients who underwent cataract surgery using the phaco-chop technique and the modified prechop technique have been grouped and reviewed retrospectively. Endothelial cell count (ECC) and central corneal thickness (CCT) measured 7 days pre-operatively, and 1 month and 3 months post-operatively, were compared between the two groups. In modified prechop technique, a narrow 1.7 mm neck prechopper (AE-4298, HI Kim-Inamura chopper, ASICO, Inc., USA) was used with universal chopper (AE-2591, HI Kim chopper, ASICO, Inc., USA) as an additional device for grade 4 and above cataracts or without it for grade 2 to 3 cataracts. Details of the surgical technique is further described in the Method section.

A total of 104 eyes in the modified prechop group and 97 eyes in the phaco-chop group were enrolled in the study. Pre-operative nuclear opacity, ECC, and CCT as well as post-operative ECC (absolute value and the loss) and CCT (absolute value and the change) throughout the follow-up between the two groups did not show statistically significant differences.

Counter prechop technique using the modified prechopper and universal chopper is a safe, easy, and versatile surgical technique that can be applied broadly in a wide range of cases with various complexities, including LOCS lll N1 to N6 nuclei, hypermature cataracts, small pupils, and fragile suspensory zonular ligaments, with post-operative result not inferior to that of the conventional technique.

To evaluate the association between dry eye disease (DED) symptoms and daily beverage intake among adults in Saudi Arabia.

In this cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study, we distributed an online questionnaire to men and women older than 18 years living in Saudi Arabia. The questionnaire consisted of items related to the sociodemographic characteristics of the participants and two validated indices the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) and the brief 15-item Beverage Intake Questionnaire (BEVQ-15). Participants were excluded if they were aged less than 18 years; wore contact lenses; had existing eye disease (excluding refractive errors), history of eye surgery (including corrective eye surgeries), or autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren's syndrome); or were currently taking specific medications including antidepressants, antihistamines, and diuretics.

After applying the study exclusion criteria, a total of 615 participants were included in the statisticalge intake.
This is the first study to highlight the association between DED symptoms and daily beverage intake. We found a significant association between DED symptoms and female sex. However, no significant association was found between DED symptoms and other demographic characteristics or beverage intake.
The first wave of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic began when the first index case was reported in Nigeria on the 27th of February 2020, and since then, more than 68,000 cases of the disease were confirmed, with 1173 deaths as of November 30, 2020.

Daily situation reports from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control spanning February 27-November 30, 2020, were fully considered in this review. Further literature search was performed using PubMed and Google Scholar databases for articles related to response measures adopted by Nigeria. The instantaneous reproduction number (
) was then estimated as a metric to investigate the non-pharmaceutical intervention measures. Nigeria responded to COVID-19 pandemic by implementing anti-COVID-19 mitigation strategies in travel restrictions, social distancing, source control, contact tracing, self-isolation, and quarantine, as well as in clinical interventions. Our epidemiological model estimated the
-value of more than 1.0 in Nigeria and in each of ave implementation of the COVID-19 response measures. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and consequential shutdown measures, many mental health professionals started providing therapy to patients exclusively via telehealth. Our research center, which specializes in studying and treating obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), historically has provided in-person exposure and response prevention (ERP) to adults with OCD, but shifted to telehealth during the pandemic. Unlike in other modes of talk therapy, ERP's emphasis on therapist-supervised exposures presented unique opportunities and challenges to delivering treatment entirely via a virtual platform. click here This paper provides case examples to illustrate lessons we learned delivering ERP exclusively via telehealth in New York from March 2020 through June 2021 and offers recommendations for future study and practice. Though we observed a number of drawbacks to fully remote ERP, we also discovered advantages to delivering ERP this way, meriting additional research attention.
Anxiety disorders are garnering increasing attention for their contribution to high-risk issues and functional impairment. Adolescents are typically admitted to partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) due to high-risk presentations. However, the frequency of anxiety disorders in PHPs is not well-established, in part because anxiety can be overlooked in acute settings due to limited lengths of stay and focus on stabilization.

This study aims to evaluate the frequency and severity of anxiety disorders among a sample of adolescent PHP patients to assess the need for anxiety-specific assessment and interventions in higher acuity settings.

Participants were 158 youths ages 13 to 19 years old (
= 15.49 years,
= 1.50) who were admitted to an adolescent PHP and their caregivers. Clinician-reported diagnostic information was collected from the youth's electronic medical record, and self- and caregiver-rated severity of anxiety was collected using the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotions Disorders (SCARED-C/P).
