Here, we used three full-sibling pairs, with each pair comprising a pig with higher backfat (BF) thickness and lower backfat thickness, to identify RNA editing events based on whole-genome and transcriptome sequencing data. A total of 60,903 non-redundant RNA editing sites with 59,472 (97.7%) A-to-G edits were detected using a revised bioinformatics pipeline. A specific sequence context with G preference was found one base downstream of the edited site, and the editing level was associated with the distribution of nucleotides across nearly sites. Moreover, the A-to-G editing sites mostly occurred in the pig-special short interspersed nuclear elements, Pre0_SS. Comparing the difference between pigs with higher BF and lower BF, we found 211 differentially edited sites (DESites). Functional enrichment analyses revealed a significant enrichment of genes containing DESites in terms of adipose deposition. The DESites located in the six adipose-related genes (SKP1, GSK3B, COL5A3, MDM4, NT5C2, and DENND2A) were selected as candidate RNA editing sites associated with adipose deposition, and thus require further evaluation. This study mined the potentially functional RNA editing sites in pig adipose tissue and indicated that RNA editing may play an important role in adipose deposition, which provides a new insight into the post-transcriptionally mediated regulation mechanism of fat development.We present a case of a 61-year-old female who, after undergoing frozen elephant trunk surgery, was found to have an unexpected left ventricular pseudoaneurysm on transthoracic echocardiogram. The pseudoaneurysm was caused by the left ventricular vent catheter constantly impinging the LV wall of the beating heart during surgery. Contrast echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography (CT) imaging confirmed the diagnosis and served for follow-up demonstrating the narrow neck and outpouching structure on the apical lateral wall. The patient remains asymptomatic two years after the operation and is being followed up with echocardiography and CT imaging.
Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities experience widespread inequalities in dental care utilization. While, several studies have reported factors contributing to such inequalities, a synthesis of evidence is lacking for CALD carers. learn more This review examined the barriers and facilitators to dental care utilization among CALD carers.

Medline, CINAHL, ProQuest, Scopus and Web of Science were searched for dental utilization and related factors, without geographic limitations. An integrated mixed-method design was adopted, where both qualitative and quantitative findings were combined into a single synthesis. Critical appraisal was conducted using JBI tools, and a Universal Health Coverage (UHC) framework guided the synthesis approach. Reliability and researcher triangulation occurred throughout the conduct of this review.

A total of 20 papers were included qualitative (n=8), quantitative (n=8) and mixed method (n=4). Studies were from Australia, Canada, South Korea, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom and the United States. Three studies insufficiently reported confounding variables and nine qualitative papers lacked philosophical perspectives. Affordability was the foremost barrier at the system level, followed by psychosocial negative provider experiences and language/communication issues at the provider level. Cultural, knowledge, attitudes and beliefs were individual-family level factors. Utilizing a UHC framework, the barriers and facilitators were aggregated at three levels; financial-system, provider and individual-family levels and illustrated in the rainbow model of CALD oral health.

Tacrolimus is associated with optic neuropathy. The clinical features of tacrolimus-induced optic neuropathy (TION) are unclear. The purpose of this article is to explore the clinical features of TION.

TION-related case reports were collected and analysed by searching Chinese and English databases from 1989 to 31 December 2021.

Twelve males and 7 females were included, with a median age of 54years (range 23-66). TION onset time ranged from 2months to 16years after administration, and the main clinical features were blurred vision (4 cases), decreased visual acuity (7 cases), decreased visual acuity (5 cases), grey films (3 cases), visual field damage (3 cases) and headache (2 cases). Fifteen patients developed bilateral optic neuropathy. Ophthalmological examination showed visual acuity ranging from 20/25 to blindness, pupillary examination revealed relative afferent pupillary defect in 9 patients and marked decrease in colour vision in 15 eyes. The optic disc showed pallor (10 cases), oedema (8 cases), atrophy (4 cases) and haemorrhage (2 cases). After discontinuation or dose reduction of tacrolimus, symptoms improved in 10 patients, 1 patient recovered completely, and 4 patients did not recover.

Recently, circulating HBV RNA has been identified as a promising noninvasive surrogate marker of cccDNA and can be used for monitoring disease progression and predicting prognosis of patients with chronic HBV infection. To better understand this surrogate biomarker of cccDNA, we reviewed the current knowledge about the molecular characteristics and potential clinical applications of circulating HBV RNA. Specifically, we summarized the reported species and existing forms of circulating HBV RNA and discussed their biogenesis and the capacity of de novo infection by RNA virions. Moreover, we described the potential applications of circulating HBV RNA in different clinical scenarios, such as classifying the phases of chronic HBV infection, analyzing sustained on-treatment and off-treatment outcomes of treated patients, as well as predicting HCC development. Perspectives on future research of circulating HBV RNA were also proposed in this review.

The metabotropic glutamate 5 (mGlu5) receptor is an important regulator of synaptic plasticity potentially linked with synchronized brain activity and a target of interest in treating AUD. The goal of this work was to assess potential relationships of brain connectivity at rest with mGlu5 receptor availability in people with AUD at two time points early in abstinence.

The standard treatment for hyalohyphomycosis caused by P. lilacinum is not yet defined, since this fungus is resistant to different antifungals, in vitro and in vivo. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare in vitro antifungal activity against environmental and clinical P. lilacinum isolates and our results demonstrated that these isolates can be resistant to newer generation triazoles, such as voriconazole, and to caspofungin, a drug of the echinocandin class. In summary, we highlight the importance of knowing the different susceptibility profiles of P. lilacinum isolates, and besides that, the emergence of uncommon human and animal opportunistic fungi, such P. lilacinum, especially during COVID-19, highlight the need for antifungal susceptibility testing of isolates since empirical therapy with different treatment schedules failed in great number of patients.
The aim of this study was to examine the incidence of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) in Western Australia (WA) and estimate the contribution of pharmaceutical drugs of dependence (PDD) to NAS.

A population-based birth cohort study.

Neonates were identified through the Midwives Notification Scheme. Linked medication dispensing and hospital records were used to identify exposure to PDD and NAS diagnosis.

All live born neonates born in WA between 2003 and 2018.

During the study period, the incidence of NAS did not significantly change (annual percentage change (APC) 0.6, 95%CI -1.3, 2.6), with 3.8 neonates per 1,000 live births diagnosed with NAS. PDD were dispensed to 41.4% of mothers of neonates with NAS, with PDD used to treat opioid use disorders the most commonly prescribed (35.2% of neonates with NAS), while opioid PDD used in the treatment of pain contributed to 5.2% of NAS cases. Non-opioid PDD contributed to 1.7% of cases of NAS. The incidence of NAS associated with the use of opioids used to treat opioid use disorders (OUD) decreased over the study period (APC -6.5, 95%CI -9.5, -3.4), while NAS associated with opioids used to treat pain remained stable (APC -2.7, 95%CI -7.1, 1.9).
