We evaluated whether NEXT was reaching women participants and people without access to other safe sources of sterile injection supplies.

This cross-sectional study examined NEXT participants who enrolled in the mail-delivery SSP from February 2018 through March 2021. All NEXT participants completed an online questionnaire during enrollment, which included sociodemographic and clinical characteristics and injection-related risk factors (including prior sources of sterile injection supplies). Multivariable logistic regression (MVR) was used to examine associations between gender and prior use of safe sy services can reach other underserved populations of PWID.
Our findings suggest that NEXT services are utilized by women and people without prior access to sterile injection supplies. Women participants were less likely than men to have exclusively used safe sources for sterile injection supplies. Future research should explore women's preference for mail-delivery over in-person SSPs and determine whether online accessed mail delivery services can reach other underserved populations of PWID.
In Brazil, regarding drug and alcohol treatment, there is an emphasis on financing long-term residential treatment and a lack of community-based approaches, leading to a burden on families. Therefore, family members increasingly seek coerced treatment even though there are reports of human rights violations in this context. This study aims to describe the meanings constructed by family members regarding coerced treatment of people who use alcohol and other drugs.

We conducted 15 interviews with the family members of people who use alcohol and other drugs and had requested coerced treatment. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis.

Through analysis, five major themes regarding the use of coerced treatment were constructed (1) as protection for people from the dangers related to the use of alcohol and other drugs; (2) as punishment, aiming to prevent the return to drug use; (3) as a guarantee of abstinence; (4) as a consequence of the loss of autonomy to dehes, especially community-based services, and promote the disclosure of these services to eliminate coerced treatment. Health care providers should support the feelings of family members and provide guidelines related to other treatment options, making families feel genuinely included as partners in the care of people who use drugs.
Petitions for involuntary commitment of people living with a substance use disorder (SUD) have almost doubled since 2011 in Massachusetts through the policy Section 35. However, the efficacy of this controversial policy remains unclear, and clinicians differ on whether it ought to be used. This study examines how clinicians decide whether to use Section 35 and their experiences of moral distress, the negative feeling that occurs when a clinician is required to pursue a treatment option against their moral judgement due to institutional constraints, associated with its use.

Qualitative semi-structured interviews with clinicians in Massachusetts were conducted between December 2019 and February 2020 and continued until thematic saturation. Thematic and narrative analysis was conducted with recorded and transcribed interviews.

Methamphetamine use has increased among individuals with opioid use disorder. The key aims of this study are to detail and contextualise lay knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours related to methamphetamine use in relation to opioid overdose risks in an area dominated by non-pharmaceutical fentanyl-type drugs (NPF).

The study recruited 41 individuals in Dayton, Ohio, who reported past 30-day use of methamphetamine and heroin/fentanyl. Interviews included structured and qualitative questions. Urine toxicology analysis was conducted to identify NPFs and other drugs. Open-ended interview sections were audio-recorded, transcribed, and analysed qualitatively using NVivo.

The mean age was 38.3 years, 51% were female, and 100% non-Hispanic white. Participants described an exceedingly unpredictable local opioid market that became saturated with NPFs. The sample tested positive for 10 NPFs, including fentanyl (100%), acetyl fentanyl (61%), tetrahydrofuran fentanyl (29%), and carfentanil (12%). Most participants believed that methamphetamine could help prevent and/or reverse an opioid-related overdose. Nearly half had personally used it to help manage overdose risks related to NPF. These beliefs were embedded in a lay understanding of how methamphetamine works to stimulate the cardiovascular system. They were acted upon in the context of last resort situations that were determined by a lack of immediate access to naloxone, ambiguities surrounding overdose symptomatology, and easy access to plentiful and inexpensive methamphetamine.

In this electroanatomical mapping (EAM) study, we evaluated the extent of LA fibrosis and its impact on catheter ablation outcomes in patients with HCM and AF.

High-density LA EAM was performed during AF in 28 consecutive patients with obstructive HCM and AF (42.9% displayed paroxysmal AF and 57.1% persistent AF). link2 Propensity score (PS) matching analysis was performed to reduce the impact of potential confounding factors. PS were derived to match patients at a 11 ratio. Patients were matched according to age, sex and LA diameter. After PS, 28 non-HCM patients with AF were selected, and served as controls. The presence of low voltage areas ≤0.4mV greater than 14.1% of the total LA area also predicted arrhythmia recurrence with excellent sensitivity (100%) and specificity (100%). Univariate analysis revealed that the extent of LA fibrosis was the only predictor of AF recurrence. After PS matching with non-HCM patients, patients with HCM exhibited wider fibrotic regions ≤0.25mV compared to non-HCM patients (p=0.016).
