The clinical presentation of coronavirus disease 2019 may be more severe in individuals with diagnoses such as neurodegenerative diseases and cerebrovascular disease, which may occur at an advanced age, among the underlying chronic neurological disorders. In this study, we analyzed the incidence of underlying neurological disorders, the clinical process, the effects on prognosis, duration of hospitalization, and clinical parameters such as mortality and the incidence of neurological manifestations that occurred in the study group after being infected and their relationship with the prognosis in patients hospitalized due to coronavirus disease 2019.

This is a retrospective and single-centered study. Individuals aged 65 years and older whose diagnosis of coronavirus disease 2019 was confirmed and who were hospitalized for treatment were included in the study.

A total of 282 individuals were included in the study. Neurological manifestaitons were observed in 217 (77.0%) patients, and 131 (46.5%) patients hiods of hospitalization.
There might be dopaminergic connections between the retina and the brain. In this context, the study was aimed to investigate the possible interaction between the retina and basal ganglia through the dopaminergic system.

In total, 32 healthy rats were randomized into 4 groups healthy, Sham, dopamine antagonist injected group (risperidone, 0.04 mg/kg intravitreally), and dopamine agonist injected group (apomorphine, 0.4 mg/kg intravitreally). The locomotor activity and Morris water maze tests were applied to all rats twice, before the injection and 28 days after, to detect changes in movement, memory, and attention. Histopathologically, the basal ganglia and hippocampus regions were removed and examined.

In the locomotor activity test, a statistical significance was found between the first and last measurement values of the apomorphine group and a decrease in activities and an increase in resting times (P < .05). In the Morris water maze test, a statistical significance was detected between the first and last tests of the control group and the apomorphine groups and showed significantly shorter learning times (P < .05). Histological analyses of the substantia nigra and hippocampus were noteworthy in that the number of damaged neurons in the risperidone group was considerably higher than the other groups. The number of damaged neurons in the apomorphine group was significantly lower than in the healthy group.

Intravitreal administration of dopamine agonists and antagonists has given rise to alterations in the cerebral dopaminergic system, leading to changes in locomotor activity and memory and histopathological changes.

Cognitive developmental delay is a picture of the group of early-onset chronic diseases that affect 1.5-10% of children. Autism spectrum disorders are neurodevelopmental diseases with a genetic basis and abnormal brain development, characterized by disorders in areas that make up interpersonal relationships, such as communication, social cognition, and processing of emotional signals. Immune system dysfunction is thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of some neurological disorders, including autism. Progranulin is thought to be a regulator of the innate immune response. The purpose of this study was to look at plasma levels of progranulin, an anti-inflammatory neurotrophic factor, in children with autism spectrum disorder and cognitive developmental delay.

The study was conducted on 52 children who were patients and 35 healthy children. Of the 52 children of the patient group, 32 were diagnosed with CDD and 20 were diagnosed with cognitive developmental delay-autism spectrum disorder. Serum progranulogranulin levels could be a biomarker for autism spectrum disorder-cognitive developmental delay.
Progranulin deficiency in patients with autism spectrum disorder-cognitive developmental delay may result in decreased neurotrophic support for many years, with cumulative damage associated with unregulated inflammation that may play a role in autism spectrum disorder-cognitive developmental delay. We believe that low progranulin levels could be a biomarker for autism spectrum disorder-cognitive developmental delay.
We examined the prevalence of esophageal cancer in 828 patients diagnosed with achalasia and the characteristics of patients who developed esophageal cancer.

The demographic characteristics and medical records of the patients who were followed up with a diagnosis of achalasia between 1995 and 2019 were investigated from the patient files.

The mean age of the patients was 51 ± 17.3, 390 of them were males (47.1%) and 438 were females (52.9%). The mean diagnosis age of the patients was 45.4 years. The median follow-up duration of the patients was 73 months (12-480). Esophageal cancer developed in 5 patients (0.6%) during follow-up. Three of these 5 patients had squamous cell carcinoma (60%) and 2 had adenocarcinoma (40%). Three of these patients were males (60%) and 2 were females (40%). The mean age of the patients was 68 (56-78), and cancer developed after a median of 156 months (24-216) after the achalasia diagnosis. Balloon dilation therapy was performed for the treatment of achalasia in all 5 patients who developed esophageal cancer.

Achalasia patients have an increased risk of developing esophageal cancer compared to the general population, and patients should be followed closely for cancer development.

Perioperative hypothermia occurs in the pediatric age group in the perioperative period at a high rate. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the incidence of perioperative hypothermia and the risk factors that play a role in its development in pediatric circumcision cases that have a brief operation duration.

This prospective observational cohort study included 100 children who underwent circumcision under general anesthesia. All patients were heated with a passive heater and hypothermia was interpreted as a drop in body temperature below <36˚C. The patients were divided into 2 groups group 1 (patients with body temperature <36˚C) and group 2 (≥36˚C). Demographic data, the American Society of Anesthesiologists' Classification of Physical Health Score, premedication method, operation time, fluid amount, preoperative and postoperative temperature of patients as tympanic were recorded.

The average age of the patients was 70 ± 40 months (median 84) and 93% were ASA I. In 71% of patients, a decrease in body temperature and hypothermia developed in 39% compared to baseline. The duration of operation was longer in the group with hypothermia (30 min [15-70] vs. 25 min [15-60], P < .001). Only the duration of operation was determined as the independent risk factor associated with hypothermia (odds ratio 1.103 [1.017-1.197], P=.018).

In this study, it was found that high rates of hypothermia developed even in minor operations such as pediatric circumcision. The risk of hypothermia increases with the prolongation of surgery.

Major vascular injury is one of the most important causes of death after trauma. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/fasoracetam-ns-105.html The effective and speedy control of the hemorrhage is crucial in reducing deaths. Many products are used for this purpose. Today, however, an ideal product has not yet been produced and there is a strong demand for such effective hemostatic products. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of Algan hemostatic agent with Floseal in the liver laceration model in rats.

A total of 28 rats were used in the study. Rats were divided into 4 groups, each consisting of 7 rats. Experimental liver laceration was established. In the control group, saline-impregnated gauze was applied. Algan hemostatic agent-impregnated sponge, Algan hemostatic agent powder, and Floseal gel were applied to the experimental groups.

There was no difference in bleeding control among the Algan hemostatic agent powder, Algan hemostatic agent-impregnated sponge, and Floseal. When compared to the control group, Algan hemostatic agent powder, Algan hemostatic agent-impregnated sponge, and Floseal were found to be very effective in bleeding control, respectively (P=.001, .012, and .002), in the experimental groups.

This study showed that the properties of both Algan hemostatic agent powder and Algan hemostatic agent-impregnated sponge for controlling bleeding are similar to Floseal. Considering other characteristics such as Algan hemostatic agent's naturalness, easy applicability, and low cost, Algan hemostatic agent has been a promising effective hemostatic agent.

Lipoxins are anti-inflammatory, pro-resolving molecules that are secreted by immune cells such as neutrophils and macrophages. Lipoxins are a metabolite of the arachidonic acid pathway that resolve inflammation in fibrotic liver by producing several anti-inflammatory molecules. In this study, phenotypic distribution activation markers of lymphocytes in the spleen and expression levels of chemokines (chemokine (C-X-C motif) receptor 3, chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 10) cytokines (interferon gamma, tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-6, interleukin-10) in the liver of lipoxin A4-treated fibrotic mice were investigated.

Liver fibrosis was induced in BALB/c mice by thioacetamide administration. Lipoxin A4 was administered during last 2 weeks of induction. Fibrosis level was determined by using Knodell scoring. Lymphocytes were identified by flow-cytometry. Expression levels of genes were measured by quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction in liver homogenates.

Lipoxin A4 treatment caused an einflammatory effect by reducing the frequency of activated T cells and expression levels of chemokines cytokines responsible from inflammatory immune response in the liver.
Gastroesophageal reflux is considered to be a disease when reflux of gastric contents causes troublesome symptoms in infants and children. The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic value of the multichannel intraluminal impedance monitoring and only pH monitoring in the diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux disease in infants and children.

This prospective cross-sectional study consisted of pediatric patients aged between 1 month and 18 years old with symptoms suggestive of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Patients were divided into 2 groups as younger than 24 months (group 1) and older than 24 months (group 2). Twentyfour hours multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH monitoring was performed on the patients.

This study included 50 pediatric patients. The mean age of the patients was 5.35 ± 4.92 years. In group 1, total reflux events were fewer than group 2 (P = .03) by pH monitoring. In group 1, the number of non-acid reflux events was higher than in group 2 and in group 2, the number of acidic reflux events was higher than group 1 (P = .
