Huntington's disease (HD) is a genetic condition resulting in movement, behavioural and cognitive impairments. People with HD have low levels of physical activity which may be compounded by insufficient support from health-care professionals.

Forty people visited the HD clinic; 19 were given physical activity advice. Themes around who, where and how promotion of physical activity could take place were identified; concepts of benefits and barriers were threads through each theme.
We describe for the first time the co-design of a HD specific physical activity tool. Our associated acceptability study emphasizes the importance of individualized planning of physical activities in complex neurodegenerative conditions. Perceived barriers were time and lack of knowledge of local resources.
A simple tool can support conversations about physical activity with people with HD and is an aid to individualized goal setting. Exploring the use of PAT-HD within a community setting and development of support systems for health-care professionals and support workers who are in regular contact with people with HD is required.

Ergothioneine is a thio-histidine amino acid that has exhibited strong antioxidant and metal chelating activities. This study aimed at exploring the potential modulating effects of ergothioneine on iron-triggered liver injury. The results showed that ergothioneine inhibited iron-evoked inflammation and apoptosis as demonstrated by a significant reduction in tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 levels and in caspase-3 activity. Ergothioneine significantly improved liver cell survival as indicated by modulating phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B signaling. Consistent with reduced necrotic cell death, ergothioneine diminished the iron-evoked histopathological changes and decreased serum activity of the liver enzymes. Mechanistically, ergothioneine reduced nuclear translocation of nuclear factor kappa B p65 and modulated p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase/c-Fos signaling. In addition, it enhanced the liver tissue antioxidant potential and curbed hepatic iron load. Together, these results point out the modulatory effects of ergothioneine on iron-evoked liver cell injury that are possibly mediated via anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and possible iron chelation capabilities.Croton L. Several species are widely used medicinally in various parts of the world to treat cancer, digestive problems, skin diseases, malaria, ulcers, and obesity. The leaves and stems are sold as dehydrated fragments, or in powder form, and used in the preparation of teas and various types of formulations. The aim of this study was to accurately characterize the leaf anatomy of Croton bonplandianus Baill. and Croton gracilipes Baill. and to perform histochemical analysis of laticifers to provide subsidies for botanical certification. To accomplish this, leaf blade and petiole samples were fixed and prepared following standard techniques for scanning electron and light microscopy. Histochemical tests were carried out on sections to detect the compounds present in the secretions. Results showed neutral and acidic lipids, as well as phenolic compounds, in the latex. In addition, leaf anatomical structures of these two species were studied for specific identification of morphological characters and for quality assessment of these medicinal plants.
Skeletal variation in cortical bone thickness is an indicator of bone quality and health in archeological populations. Second metacarpal radiogrammetry, which measures cortical thickness at the shaft midpoint, is traditionally used to evaluate bone loss in bioarcheological and some clinical contexts. The ROI method was adapted from digital X-ray radiogrammetry (DXR), a clinical method used to estimate bone mineral density, and tested using second metacarpals from Middenbeemster, Netherlands, a 19th century known a sizes, allowing patterns in bone acquisition and loss to be more comprehensively depicted in archeological assemblages.The objective of this study was to understand the conceptualisation and development of a novel way of providing end-of-life care in a Cottage Hospice setting, with a focus on the role of family carers and volunteers within this care model. A participatory action research design enabled a situational analysis, together with change processes. The study setting was a hospice in the South of England, and its network of wider associates in the local health economy. Participants were purposively sampled to provide relevant information. Data collection (2017-2018) included documents (e.g., meeting minutes) and interviews (individual and group) with external (e.g., GPs) and internal (e.g., staff, managers, volunteers, patients, family carers) stakeholders. These were followed by action cycles conducted by a core action group which explored issues related to family and young carers, the relationship between the main and Cottage Hospices and workforce engagement with the change process. Iterative, inductive, thematic analysis was followed by axial coding facilitated within NVivo.
