(1) Background The main aim of this study was to examine the effect of an intervention of 12 weeks in three groups on anthropometric measurement and heart rate (HR) variables, fitness index, and maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) in older women. (2) Methods In total, 166 Serbian adult women, aged 50 to 69 years old, participated in this study, comprising a control group (60 participants, μage = 57.8 + 6.6), Nordic-walking (NW) group (53 participants, μage = 57.5 + 6.8), and recreational-walking (RW) group (53 participants, μage = 57.8 + 6.6) in a physical fitness programme for 12 weeks. (3) Results Anthropometric measurement variables were measured using a stadiometer and an electronic scale. The data showed differences in walking heart rate (bt/min) (p < 0.001; η2 = 0.088) between control, NW, and RW groups in the pretest analysis. Moreover, there were significant differences in walking heart rate (bt/min) (η2 = 0.155), heart rate at the end of the test (bt/min) (η2 = 0.093), total time of fitness index test (min) (η2 = 0.097), fitness index (η2 = 0.130), and VO2max (η2 = 0.111) (all, p < 0.001) between control, NW, and RW groups in the posttest analysis. (4) Conclusions NW group training resulted in slightly greater benefits than RW group training. The present study demonstrated that both groups could act as modalities to improve the functionality and quality of life of people during the ageing process, reflected mainly in HR variables; UKK test measurements, and VO2max. It also contributes to the extant research on older women during exercise and opens interesting avenues for future research.

6378 participants had pre-and post-intervention levels reported for at least one outcome measure. In adjusted models, higher pre-intervention cardiometabolic measures were associated with worsening of all cardiometabolic measures. Women had worsening LDL-cholesterol compared with men. Women with pre-intervention HbA1c > 6.8% and systolic blood pressure > 131 mm of Hg had worse post-intervention HbA1c and systolic blood pressure compared with men. Adding individual's neighborhood-level risks did not change effect sizes significantly.

Understanding unresolved gender-specific needs and preferences of patients with increased cardiometabolic risks may aid in tailoring clinic-community-linked care planning.The aim of the present study was the implementation of the composite imaging "Radscale" in patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) and the evaluation of its score, as well as absolute stroke volume and peak flow velocity of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in aqueduct as indicators of a positive response following a tap test. Forty-five patients with iNPH were included. Clinical evaluation involved the 10 m timed walk test before and every 24 h for 3 consecutive days after evacuative lumbar puncture (LP). Neuropsychological evaluation comprised a mini mental state examination (MMSE), frontal assessment battery (FAB), 5-word test (5WT) and CLOX drawing test 1 and 2, which were carried out before and 48 h after LP. The tap test's response was defined as a ≥20% improvement in gait and/or a ≥10% improvement in neuropsychological tests. All scores of neuropsychological and clinical variables, except for immediate 5WT and CLOX-1, differed significantly before and 48 h after LP. Improvement in time and steps of a 10 m timed walk test differed significantly between female and male patients. Out of 45 total patients, 19 were tap test responders and 26 non-responders. The total score of Radscale and CSF flow parameters did not differ between responders and non-responders. However, "Callosal angle" sub-score differed significantly between these two groups. A greater "callosal angle" sub-score, meaning more acute callosal angle, was associated with a positive tap test response, rendering it a useful measurement in the stratification of iNPH patients that will potentially respond to CSF shunting.Cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) is defined as progressive, combined cardiac and renal dysfunction. In this mini review, a historical note on CRS is presented, the pathomechanisms and clinical hallmarks of both chronic heart failure and chronic kidney disease are discussed, and an updated classification of CRS is proposed. The current consensus classification relies on the assumed etiology and the course of the disease, i.e., acute or chronic CRS. The powerful learning capabilities of AI enable feature extraction, which helps to achieve accurate identification of cardiac structures and reliable estimation of the ventricular volume and myocardial motion. Hence, the automatic output of systolic function indexes can be achieved based on echocardiographic images. This review attempts to thoroughly explain the latest progress of AI in assessing left ventricular systolic function and differential diagnosis of heart diseases by echocardiography and discusses the challenges and promises of this new field.Previous studies have shown retinal vein occlusion (RVO) is associated with changes in vessel density visible on swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (ss-OCTA). This study aimed to characterize retinal changes on ss-OCTA among RVO patients stratified by the need for continuous anti-VEGF therapy. This cross-sectional study of 24 RVO patients ≥ 18 years were imaged with SS-OCT-A. Patients were categorized into continuous vs. limited therapy (≥1 vs. no injections in previous 12 months) based on recurrence of intraretinal fluid (IRF) on OCT. Images were analyzed using ImageJ. T-tests were used to compare vessel density of the macula and peripheral retina. Overall, RVO patients undergoing continuous therapy (n = 14) had higher diabetes prevalence, worse baseline visual acuity, and higher baseline macular thickness compared to the limited (n = 10) therapy group. Continuous therapy was associated with lower macular VD in the combined retina layer and the superficial capillary plexus (SCP), but not in the deep capillary plexus (DCP). Further, the continuous therapy group exhibited lower peripheral VD in the combined retina layer, and no difference in the SCP and DCP layers when analyzed separately. In conclusion, RVO patients requiring continuous anti-VEGF injections demonstrate reduced VD of the macula and in the periphery on SS-OCTA imaging. SS-OCTA may be valuable for monitoring and prognosticating treatment for RVO patients.(1) Background Emergency pancreatoduodenectomy (EPD) is a rare procedure, especially in non-trauma centers. Pancreatoduodenectomy is a challenging intervention, that has even higher risks in emergency settings. However, EPD can be a life-saving procedure in selected cases. (2) Methods Our study is a single-center prospective consecutive case series, on patients that underwent emergency pancreatoduodenectomies in our surgical department between January 2014 to May 2021. (3) Results In the 7-year period, 4 cases were operated in emergency settings, out of the 615 patients who underwent PD (0.65%). All patients were male, with ages between 44 and 65. Uncontrollable bleeding was the indication for surgery in 3 cases, while a complex postoperative complication was the reason for surgery in one other case. In three cases, a classical Whipple procedure was performed, and only one case had a pylorus-preserving pancreatoduodenectomy. The in-hospital mortality rate was 25% and the morbidity rate was 50%; the two patients that registered complications also needed reinterventions.
