We aimed to test the efficiency of CHA2DS2-VASc, CHA2DS2-VASc-HS, R2CHA2DS2-VASc score systems on the prediction of mortality in the patients with COVID-19.
The data were collected from 508 hospitalized patients with COVID-19. Comorbidity features including coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, congestive heart failure, hypertension, atrial fibrillation, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, smoking, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cerebrovascular event, cancer status, and renal disease were recorded. The patients were divided as surviving group (n=440) and non-survivors (n=68).
The in-hospital mortality rate of the patients with COVID-19 was 13.4%. Factors found to be associated with mortality in univariate analysis were CHA2DS2-VASc, CHA2DS2-VASc-HS, R2CHA2DS2-VASc, cancer state, atrial fibrillation, hemoglobin, lymphocyte count, CRP, albumin and ferritin. Model 1 multivariate cox regression analysis revealed CHA2DS2-VASc, hemoglobin, CRP and ferritin levels to be independently assctors of mortality in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The current study revealed that the predictive ability of R2CHA2DS2-VASc was better than the both of CHA2DS2-VASc and CHA2DS2-VASc-HS score. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that has created the current pandemic, has caused a worldwide worry. Different countries have since enforced varying levels of lockdowns and guidelines for their populations to follow in a serious effort to mitigate the spread. Up until recently, the majority of these regulations and policies were established on the assumption that the dominant routes of transmission of this virus are through droplets and fomite contact. However, there is now a substantial amount of research pointing towards the strong possibility that SARS-CoV-2 can spread through airborne means. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have recently recognized this, which poses the question of whether our collective methods of lessening transmission risk and keeping people safe have been sufficient. This paper is a comprehensive review of the evidence on SARS-CoV-2 being an airborne disease, through different epidemiological, experimental, and animal-model based published research. Studies opposing this evidence have also been discussed. The majority of these studies are favoring the high plausibility of SARS-CoV-2 aerosol transmission, and therefore the many implications of aerosol transmission have been discussed in this paper to suggest effective mitigation and control strategies.
Coronaviruses are large, enveloped, positive-stranded RNA viruses. These viruses contain spike-like projections of glycoprotein on their surface, which appear like a crown. Millions of infections and thousands of deaths have been reported worldwide to date. Hence, the objective of the present study was to look for in silico evaluation of certain commercially available flavonoids against SARS-CoV-2 enzyme.
The in silico docking calculations were carried out using AutoDock 4.2 software. For the computational investigation, Apigenin, Catechin, Galangin, Luteolin, Naringenin were selected. An anti-viral drug Remdesivir was selected as reference drug.
In the present study we found that Naringenin showed excellent binding score with the SARS-CoV-2 enzyme compared to the reference drug and other selected flavonoids.
Based on the docking results, we conclude that Naringenin can be considered worthwhile to check its antiviral activity for the management of Coronavirus disease.

The aim of the study was to determine the association between platelet indices and disease severity, and outcomes of the patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in a secondary hospital.
722 hospitalized patients who had positive rRT-PCR for SARS-CoV-2 and/or typical findings of COVID-19 at chest computed tomography (CT) were enrolled in this study. Initial platelet count (PLT) and indices, including mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), plateletcrit (PCT), MPV/PCT, MPV/PLT, PDW/PLT, PDW/PCT on admission and the third day of hospitalization, and their relationship with disease severity and outcomes were evaluated retrospectively.
The mean age of the patients was 57.2±15.6 years (range 16-94) and male/female ratio was 1.22. 81.9% of the patients had moderate and 11.8% had severe disease. 1.8% of the patients had thrombocytopenia at admission. The patients transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) had significantly lower baseline lymphocyte counts, PLT, PCT, and 3rd day lymphocyte counts when compared with the patients in wards. ICU patients also had higher baseline CRP, LDH, ferritin, MPV/PCT, MPV/PLT, PDW/PLT, PDW/PCT ratios, and 3rd day PDW, CRP, LDH, and ferritin levels than the patients in wards. Mortality was associated with lower baseline lymphocyte counts, PLT, PCT, 3rd day lymphocyte counts and PCT. Higher baseline CRP, LDH, ferritin, MPV/PCT, PDW/PLT, PDW/PCT and 3rd day CRP, LDH, ferritin, procalcitonin, PDW, MPV/PCT, PDW/PLT, and PDW/PCT ratios were also associated with poor prognosis.
Platelet count and ratios were significantly associated with mortality in patients with COVID-19.

COVID-19 vaccines have developed quickly, and vaccination programs have started in most countries to fight the pandemic. The aging population is vulnerable to different diseases, also including the COVID-19. A high death rate of COVID-19 was noted from the vulnerable aging population. A present scenario regarding COVID-19 vaccines and vaccination program foraging adults had been discussed.
This paper reviews the current status and future projections till 2050 of the aging population worldwide. It also discusses the immunosenescence and inflammaging issues facing elderly adults and how it affects the vaccinations such as influenza, pneumococcal, and herpes zoster.
This paper recommends clinical trials for all approved COVID-19 vaccines targeting the elderly adult population and to project a plan to develop a next-generation COVID-19 vaccine.
The review has mapped the COVID-19 vaccination status from the developed and developing countries for the elderly population. Finally, strategies to vaccinate all elderly adults globally against COVID-19 to enhance longevity has been suggested.

Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome is a neuropsychiatric disorder due to thiamine deficiency which is caused by poor nutrition for any reason. The relationship between tuberculous peritonitis and the Wernicke-Korsakoff has not been declared yet. Therefore, we aim to report a case of tuberculous peritonitis which presented with Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome.
Most recent oncology studies support the existence of chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment. This study's objective was to evaluate the power of healthcare providers' knowledge, awareness, and perception of memory impairment caused by chemotherapeutic agents, as predictors of their intentions to convey information about this side effect to patients.
A cross-sectional online survey with 32 questions and seven domains was distributed. The domains included questions about healthcare providers' behaviors, norms, attitudes, awareness, perceptions, and knowledge about chemotherapeutic agent-induced cognitive impairment and their intentions to inform patients about these side effects. RMC-4630 Microtubule Associated inhibitor Descriptive and inferential statistics were calculated to analyze associations.
A total of 207 healthcare providers completed the survey. Their mean age was 31 (±7.8) years and most of them were physicians (43.5%). Positive relationships were found between healthcare providers' attitudes (β=0.239, p<0.001), subjective norm life.
Providers' low scores on awareness, perceptions, and knowledge of these side effects of treatment highlight a need for strategic educational programs that meet patients' needs and improve their quality of life.
Cisplatin is a widely used anticancer drug that provokes various side effects. Nephrotoxicity is one of the well-known major side effects in the chemotherapeutic use of cisplatin. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and p53 play important roles in cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity. AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is known to be sensitively activated by ROS and can directly activate p53. The present study investigated the role of AMPK on cisplatin-induced apoptosis in rat renal epithelial NRK-52E cells.
NRK-52E cells were treated with cisplatin in the absence or presence of specific ROS scavenger and AMPK inhibitor for indicated times under the serum-free condition. The expression and phosphorylation levels of proteins were evaluated by Western blot and densitometry analysis.
Cisplatin induced apoptotic cell death through ROS-mediated p53 activation, which is associated with AMPK activation. AMPK inhibitor suppressed cisplatin-induced p53 activation, as well as AMPK activation. Interestingly, ROS scavenger cally affect cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity because AMPK activation can be disrupted eIF2α phosphorylation.
Prehabilitation, intended as a multidisciplinary approach where physical training is combined with educational and counselling training, in cardiology could optimizing care, and has been shown to be able to reduce morbidity and mortality in several diseases. The present study aims to assess the effectiveness of a prehabilitation program in elderly patients (over 65) with chronic heart failure and to evaluate functional and quality indices of life.
This is randomized, single blind controlled trial. Fourteen older adult patients diagnosed with chronic heart failure were enrolled. Patients were randomly assigned into the study or the control group. Patients in the study group underwent physical training organized into 10 twice-weekly meetings, nutritional and lifestyle counseling.
In the Study Group, the quality of life improved significantly (EQoL-5D), and between the two groups there is a statistically significant difference in the motor dimension of SF-36.
Because of our preliminary results, prehabilitation program should be included among the management strategies of in elderly patients with chronic heart failure to better manage their disease and to improve their Quality of Life.
