he patient's clinical and diagnostic pathway. Despite no distinctive US features between reactive post-COVID-19 vaccination and malignant lymph nodes being available, careful examination of atypical lymph node locations associated with accurate knowledge of patients' clinical background and delay of US exam to four to six weeks after vaccine injection should be considered. Background and Objectives Psychological health problems have become an important topic of consideration for many scientists, because the epidemiology of these disorders is strongly influenced by stressful events such as the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic. The aim of this study was to evaluate selected parameters of psychosocial functioning as well as socio-demographic correlates of depression, anxiety, sleep disorders and perceived stress among the residents of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Materials and Methods An online questionnaire was completed by 323 participants, in whom the parameters of psychosocial functioning were assessed (symptoms of depression, anxiety, severity of sleep disorders and perceived stress). Results The majority of the respondents (75.2%) scored high on the Perceived Stress Scale, and almost half of the respondents (47.1%) had sleep disorders. A total of 26% of the participants had no depressive symptoms. Age was significantly correlated with the severity of depressive symptoms and sleep disorders. There was a strong correlation between the severity of depression and anxiety (r = 0.76; p less then 0.0001), a moderate correlation between depression and perceived stress (r = 0.47; p less then 0.0001) and a strong correlation between depression and sleep disorders (r = 0.651; p less then 0.0001). Conclusions Age contributed to the severity of depressive symptoms and the occurrence of sleep disorders among the residents of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Some residents of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship showed moderate to severe depressive and anxiety symptoms, as well as high levels of stress and insomnia. Background and objectives Current studies show an important role of affective temperament in sport performance. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of the use of the TEMPS-A scale, by using it to examine five dimensions of affective temperament in three groups of athletes. We hypothesized that temperament may be a predisposing factor to the level of commitment and type of training. Materials and methods The study group (N71, 33 female) consisted of professional canoeists (N25, aged 18-30), sports pilots (N21, aged 19-57) and non-professionals regularly performing aerobic exercises (N25, aged 23-33). The Affective Temperament of Pisa, Paris and San Diego Autoquestionnaire (TEMPS-A) was used to evaluate affective temperament dimensions. Statistical analysis was performed using non-parametric tests. Results The TEMPS_A scale shows good internal consistency; a hyperthymic temperament was associated with different factors compared to other temperament traits. The most prevalent trait in the study g lability and sensitivity to environmental factors. However, further research is needed, involving larger numbers of subjects. Background and Objectives Vitamin D deficiency is involved in numerous pathologies, including endocrine pathology. The purpose of this review consists of presenting the role of vitamin D in the pathophysiology of certain endocrine disorders, autoimmune thyroid disorders (Hashimoto's disease and Grave's disease), diabetes mellitus, and obesity, and whether its supplementation can influence the outcome of these diseases. Materials and Methods Review articles and original articles from the literature were consulted that corresponded with the thematic. Results Vitamin D deficiency is frequently encountered in endocrine disorders and supplementation restores the normal values. In Hashimoto's disease, vitamin D deficiency appears to be correlated with a higher titer of anti-TPO antibodies and with thyroid volume, and supplementation was associated with reduction of antibodies in some studies. In other studies, supplementation appeared to reduce TSH levels. In Grave's disease, there was a significant correlation regarding vitamin D levels and thyroid volume respective to the degree of exophthalmos. In diabetes mellitus type 2 patients, supplementation led to some improvement of the HOMA-IR index and HbA1c, whereas obesity data from literature do not report significant beneficial findings. Conclusions Vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent in endocrine disorders and its supplementation appears to have numerous beneficial effects. Background and Objectives The endodontic space is a complex area on both micro and macro levels; therefore, traditional irrigation techniques may not guarantee a complete cleaning of such a complicated tridimensional system. The presented ex vivo study aimed to evaluate root canal cleanliness, obtained through an equal volume of traditionally applied sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), compared to ultrasonically activated NaOCl and ultrasonically activated NaOCl that had undergone intracanal heating NaOCl. Materials and Methods A total of 60 freshly extracted human mandibular premolars underwent root sample length standardization (18 mm), root canal preparation and, based on the irrigation method employed, were randomly and equally assigned to three study groups, composed of root samples treated with ultrasonically activated NaOCl, ultrasonically activated NaOCl that had undergone intracanal heating and traditionally applied NaOCl. The root specimens were subsequently fixated with 4% buffered formalin solution and decalcified in Morse liquid. A total often 6-micron-thick serial cross-sections were obtained, dyed using hematoxylin and eosin and examined through an optical microscope at 40×, 100×, and 200×. Results Ultrasonically activated NaOCl that had undergone intracanal heating showed a significantly smaller amount of debris compared to ultrasonically activated and traditionally applied NaOCl groups (p value less then 0.05). Conclusions Root canal cleanliness saw significant enhancements by ultrasonically activated NaOCl that had undergone intracanal heating. The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is associated with several cardiovascular manifestations including myocardial injury, myocarditis, arrhythmia, and pulmonary embolism. Rare cases of stress-induced cardiomyopathy, or takotsubo syndrome have also been reported during the acute infection, and secondary to stress following lockdown and self-isolation. Diagnosis in the setting of the acute infection is challenging since conventional imaging modalities such as transthoracic echocardiography and coronary angiography should be restricted to minimize physician-patient contact until the patients is tested negative for COVID-19. The use of point of care hand-held ultrasound is appropriate for this purpose. The overall course of the disease seems to be similar to takotsubo in the general population. Physicians should be familiar with the clinical presentation, possible complications, and management of takotsubo during COVID-19 outbreak. Here, we review the special considerations in the diagnosis and management of takotsubo syndrome during the current pandemic. Background and Objectives Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rheumatic disease characterized by systemic inflammatory symptoms, including intermittent spiking fever, polyarthritis and a distinctive salmon-colored rash. Corticosteroids are the first-line treatment for AOSD. GSK343 However, corticosteroids are potentially hepatotoxic in certain cases and may complicate the course of the disease. Materials and Methods A 29-year-old female suffering from fever of unknown origin for two weeks was diagnosed with AOSD according to Yamaguchi's criteria. She received corticosteroids as the first-line treatment for AOSD and developed acute severe hepatitis. A diagnostic protocol has been performed. Results Corticosteroid-induced liver injury was confirmed by clinical observation and rechallenge of the drug in this case. The result of liver biopsy also supported the diagnosis. Mycophenolic acid, a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) was chosen as an alternative treatment. AOSD remission was achieved under this treatment after three months. Conclusions Severe acute hepatitis induced by corticosteroids, although very rare, may be observed in patients with AOSD. Drug-induced liver injury needs to be kept in mind when unexpected acute hepatitis is found. Mycophenolic acid could be a proper substitute medication in these cases. Background and Objectives Abnormal expressions of CD74 and human leukocyte antigen-DR alpha (HLA-DRA) have been reported in various cancers, though their roles in cervical cancer remain unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the gene and protein expressions of CD74 and HLA-DRA in the progression from normal cervix to precancerous cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and finally to squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Materials and Methods The gene expression profiles of CD74 and HLA-DRA were determined in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues, with three samples each from normal cervixes, human papillomavirus type 16/18-positive, low-grade CIN (LGCIN), high-grade CIN (HGCIN), and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) using Human Transcriptome Array 2.0. Immunohistochemical expression of the proteins was semi-quantitatively assessed in another cohort of tissue microarray samples comprising 7 normal cervix cases, 10 LGCIN, 10 HGCIN, and 95 SCC. Results The transcriptomics profile and proteins' expression demonstrated similar trends of upregulation of CD74 and HLA-DRA from normal cervix to CIN and highest in SCC. There was a significant difference in both proteins' expression between the histological groups (p = 0.0001). CD74 and HLA-DRA expressions were significantly associated with CIN grade (p = 0.001 and p = 0.030, respectively) but not with the subjects' age or SCC stage. Further analysis revealed a positive correlation between CD74 and HLA-DRA proteins. Conclusions CD74 appears to promote cervical carcinogenesis via oncogenic signalling mechanisms and may serve as a potential antitumour target. Additionally, the upregulation of HLA-DRA, often associated with stronger immunogenicity, could be a promising biomarker for developing immunotherapies. Background and Objectives The currently used pharmacological agents for metabolic disorders such as type II diabetes have several limitations and adverse effects; thus, there is a need for alternative therapeutic drugs and health functional foods. Materials and Methods This study investigated the pharmacological effects of water chestnut (fruit of Trapa japonica) extracts (WC 50-200 mg/kg) for type II diabetes using a 45% Kcal high-fat diet (HFD)-fed type II obese diabetic mice model for a period of 84 days, and the effects were compared to those of metformin (250 mg/kg). Results Increases in body weight, serum biochemical indices such as triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein, and blood urea nitrogen, increases in antioxidant defense system enzymes such as catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione, and mRNA expressions (such as AMPKα1 and AMPKα2) in the liver tissue and mRNA expressions (such as AMPKα2 mRNA, leptin, and C/EBPα) in the adipose tissue were observed in the HFD control group. The WC (50 mg/kg)-administered group showed no significant improvements in diabetic complications.
