To determine the feasibility of using human cadavers to demonstrate enzymatic burn debridement, as a training aid for clinical staff.

A single, fresh-frozen human cadaver was used. Prior consent had been given. Burns were created by flame and scalding. Unburned control sites were also assessed. Nexobrid® enzymatic burn debridement paste was applied to all sites, in adherence to the local clinical protocol for treating burned patients. After removal of Nexobrid®, wounds were assessed to determine if the cadaveric tissue appeared similar to what would be expected in living burned patients and whether the technique could be viable for training of burn care staff.

Nexobrid® had a very similar effect upon burned cadaveric skin to what would have been expected in living burned skin. Burns of partial thickness burn depth and full thickness burn depth were debrided and could be clearly identified.

Burn injuries constitute the fourth most common injuries globally. Patient outcomes must be currently assessed to provide appropriate patient care with high quality standards. However, existing mortality prediction scoring methods have been shown to lack accuracy in current burn patient populations. Therefore, this study aimed to validate existing scores using current patient data and assess whether new prediction parameters can provide better accuracy.

A retrospective analysis of the patient data from the German Burn Registry between 2016 and 2019 was performed to evaluate all Abbreviated Burn Severity Index (ABSI) score parameters. All patients over 16 years of age who received intensive care were included. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression analysis were used to identify novel prediction parameters based on the parameters documented at admission and establish a new prediction score, the BUrn Mortality Prediction (BUMP) score. The quality of the new score was subsequently compared to that ofracteristic curve 0.947 [0.939-0.954] compared to 0.926 [0.915-0.936], 0.928 [0.918-0.939], 0.937 [0.928-0.947], 0.939 [0.930-0.948], 0.940 [0.932-0.949] respectively).

Women with prior gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are at elevated risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. We compared cardiometabolic risk factors among parous U.S. women ages 20-44 by history of GDM.

Using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2007 to 2018, 3537 parous women were classified by self-reported GDM history. We compared anthropometric measures, glycemia, blood pressure, lipids, lifestyle factors, cardiovascular health, and cardiometabolic disease prevalence by GDM status. This study evaluated local control and survival outcomes of patients with unilateral or bilateral orbital lymphoma treated in a provincial population.

The study subjects were 176 patients with low-grade orbital or conjunctival lymphoma referred for management from 1980 to 2016. Demographic, tumour and treatment characteristics were abstracted by chart review. Recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival were assessed with competing risks analysis and Gray's test.
