We classified 170 consecutive patients undergoing thoracoscopic anatomic resection into SP and MP groups, which had significant between-group differences in operation time and overall complication rate (P = 0.037 and 0.018, respectively). Compared to the MP-VATS group, the operation time of SP-VATS was shorter, and the conversion rate of SP-VATS was relatively lower (3.1% vs. 10.5%, P = 0.135). The most common complication was prolonged air leakage (SP-VATS, 10.8%; MP-VATS, 2.9%, P = 0.045).

For chronic inflammatory lung disease, certain surgical techniques render SP-VATS anatomic resection feasible and safe with a lower conversion rate.

The mechanism of small-molecule stabilised protein-protein interactions is of growing interest in the pharmacological discovery process. A plethora of different substances including the aromatic sulphonamide E7820 have been identified to act by such a mechanism. The process of E7820 induced CAPERα degradation and the resultant transcriptional down regulation of integrin α2 expression has previously been described for a variety of different cell lines and been made responsible for E7820's antiangiogenic activity. Currently the application of E7820 in the treatment of various malignancies including pancreas carcinoma and breast cancer is being investigated in pre-clinical and clinical trials. It has been shown, that integrin α2 deficiency has beneficial effects on bone homeostasis in mice. To transfer E7820 treatment to bone-related pathologies, as non-healing fractures, osteoporosis and bone cancer might therefore be beneficial. However, at present no data is available on the effect of E7820 on osseous cellse that E7820 may not be suitable to treat certain malignancies of musculoskeletal origin, due to the increase in integrin α2 expression it may induce. Further investigation of the differential functioning of CAPERα and the integrin α2 promoter in cells of various origin would however be necessary to more clearly differentiate between cell lines that will positively respond to E7820 from those that will not.

Neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis caused by citrin deficiency (NICCD) is a common form of neonatal jaundice. Histopathological examination of the liver in patients with NICCD typically shows fatty liver, steatohepatitis, and liver fibrosis. Jaundice and fatty liver often improve by 1 year of age. We herein describe a girl who was diagnosed with NICCD based on an SLC25A13 mutation, although no fatty deposits were found on pathologic examination of the liver.

The patient in this case was a 3-month-old girl. At 2 months of age, she presented with jaundice, discolored stools, and poor weight gain and was found to have hyperbilirubinemia. Cholangiography revealed that she did not have biliary atresia. A laparoscopic liver biopsy was performed, and liver histopathology showed no fatty deposits. Genetic analysis revealed a compound heterozygous mutation in SLC25A13, and she was diagnosed with NICCD. She was given medium-chain triglyceride milk and gained weight. She resumed consumption of normal milk and breast milk, and her stool color improved. She was discharged at 4 months of age with adequate weight gain and a lower total bilirubin concentration. She was in good condition after discharge and showed normal development at the time of outpatient follow-up.

We experienced a case of NICCD in a patient without fatty liver. This case illustrates that the absence of hepatic steatosis in neonatal cholestasis does not rule out NICCD.

Endoscopic papillectomy of duodenal papillary tumors (PT) is indicated for adenomas or well-differentiated adenocarcinomas that do not involve the sphincter of Oddi. However, there is currently no reliable pre-operative method to diagnose the infiltration in the sphincter of Oddi.' Insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA protein 3 (IMP3) staining is reportedly associated with advanced disease stage and clinical outcomes in many carcinomas. The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the ability of diagnosing sphincter of Oddi involvement in PT and predicting the prognoses using IMP3 immunohistochemistry.

Twenty-five resected specimens from patients with PT and 24 biopsy specimens from the same patients excluding one were immunostained for IMP3. read more The percentage of positive cells in the tumor was evaluated and compared with the final pathological diagnosis and prognosis.

The final pathological diagnoses were adenoma in 5 patients and adenocarcinoma in 20 patients (no sphincter of Oddi involvement in 5 and involvement in 15). The ability to diagnose sphincter of Oddi involvement based on the percentage of IMP3-positive cells in resected specimens and tissue biopsies was the area under the curve 0.8 and 0.78, respectively, of the receiver operating characteristic curve, and the accuracies were 80.0% and 75.0% (cutoff value 10%), respectively. Moreover, patients with an IMP3-positive cell rate of ≥ 10% had a significantly worse prognosis (log-rank test P = 0.01).

IMP3 immunostaining of resected and biopsy specimens from PT patients enables the diagnosis of sphincter of Oddi involvement objectively and is also effective in predicting the prognosis.

The national health and nutrition survey allows to know the state of health of the Mexican population, it provides data for the analysis of different factors and / or indicators of health, diseases and nutritional conditions, such as chronic degenerative diseases and depressive symptoms, which, in turn, if both occur simultaneously, they will have a negative impact on health. This article studies the four factors involved in the overall health of the population in Mexico excess weight, diabetes, high blood pressure, and depressive symptoms, which are used to conduct a multidimensional characterization and analysis.

Two methodological resources are applied, a descriptive statistical characterization and the construction of a multidimensional health index with the use of fuzzy sets, through the National Health and Nutrition Survey (ENSANUT 2018-19 - for its acronym in Spanish) in Mexico.

The results reveal a growing percentage of individuals who experience detriments to their health, that is, the factors being studied have had a negative impact and tend to follow international projections. The construction of a multidimensional index enables the interaction between the factors being studied, thus allowing for an adequate modeling for the identification of health in Mexico.

This study aims to elucidate the current state of health throughout the population in Mexico by using the most current data provided by the autonomous public body of statistics and geography to build a multidimensional panorama using four elementary public health indicators (diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and depressive symptoms).

Regorafenib has shown promising results as a second-line therapy for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who progressed on sorafenib. Although there have been several data regarding the efficacy of sequential therapy with sorafenib and that of regorafenib in real-life, specific inflammation markers for predicting the prognosis have not been studied. This study aimed to investigate prognostic value of systemic inflammatory markers in patients with HCC who received sorafenib-regorafenib sequential therapy.

We retrospectively analyzed medical data of patients who received regorafenib for the treatment of HCC after sorafenib failure. Progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were assessed using the Kaplan-Meier survival curves. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to analyze the factors associated with survival.

A total of 58 patients who received at least one dose of regroafenib and fulfilled the eligibility criteria, good performance status (Eastern Cooperative Oncovel as a promising prognostic tool for HCC.
Adjuvant endocrine therapies are known to induce undesirable adverse effects such as vasomotor, vaginal and musculoskeletal symptoms among breast cancer patients. Drugs used in these therapies are often metabolised by cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes, in which their metabolising activities can be modified by single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in CYP genes and CYP genotypes. This review aims to explore whether SNPs or genotypes of CYP are associated with the occurrence, frequency and severity of vasomotor, vaginal and musculoskeletal symptoms in breast cancer patients on adjuvant endocrine therapies.

A literature review was conducted using five electronic databases, resulting in the inclusion of 14 eligible studies, and their findings were presented narratively. Selected items from the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) checklist were used for critical appraisal of the reporting quality of the included studies.

Most of the included studies showed that SNPs or geion of the link between the active metabolites of chemotherapeutic drugs and the molecules shown to affect the occurrence or severity of hot flashes, and the establishment of the relationship between such genetic variations and patients' experience of musculoskeletal and vaginal symptoms. Subgroup analyses based on patients' duration of adjuvant endocrine therapies in such studies are recommended.
Enterococcus casseliflavus is rarely isolated from human specimens. To the best of our knowledge, there are no reports on its detailed treatment course and prognosis. Here, we present the first known case of E. casseliflavus endocarditis with a detailed treatment course.

An 86-year-old Japanese woman was transferred to the emergency department with dyspnoea, wheezing, and lumbago. Her medical history included hypertension, chronic kidney disease, idiopathic interstitial pneumonia, and rectal carcinoma. Physical examination revealed expiratory wheezes and a diastolic murmur (Levine 2/6) at the 4th right sternal border. Chest radiography revealed bilateral interstitial opacities and slight cardiac dilatation. Transthoracic echocardiography demonstrated the presence of mobile vegetation with perforation, prolapse, and regurgitation of the aortic valve. With a suspicion of infective endocarditis, we started administering intravenous ampicillin/sulbactam. Thereafter, blood cultures identified E. casseliflavus through matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation time-of-flight mass spectrometry.
