Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune-mediated inflammatory skin disease. The main clinical manifestation of this complex condition is scaly erythema. Excimer 308-nm light can be used to selectively and safely treat skin lesions. In clinical practice, the combination of Xiaobi decoction combined with 308-nm excimer light therapy has been found to have a beneficial effect on advanced psoriasis vulgaris. However, the effect of Xiaobi decoction on light sensitivity in psoriasis patients has not been explored. Therefore, this study aimed to observe the effect of Xiaobi decoction on the minimal erythema dose (MED) value in guinea pigs.
Eighty guinea pigs were divided into a Xiaobi decoction group and a control group according to the serial number guinea pigs with odd numbers were assigned into the Xiaobi decoction group, and those with even numbers were assigned into the control group. The Xiaobi decoction group was administrated Xiaobi decoction by gastric lavage, while the control group was given distilled waterts may represent the mechanisms of action of Xiaobi decoction in the treatment of psoriasis.
Xiaobi decoction can reduce the MED value of guinea pigs, and increase the sensitivity of skin lesions to 308-nm excimer light and the amount of light absorbed by skin lesions. These results may represent the mechanisms of action of Xiaobi decoction in the treatment of psoriasis.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is a once-in-century crisis to public health. Although the pathogen for COVID-19, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), has been identified, the pandemic is still ongoing. The critically ill COVID-19 patients account for most disease-associated death; thus, there is an urgent need to identify prognostic factors that would help determine therapeutic approaches.
In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the clinical and laboratory findings in 100 critically ill COVID-19 patients in Hubei Women & Children Healthcare Hospital (Guanggu District), of whom 22 patients died in hospital, and 78 patients survived.
We found that age, lymphocyte count, and total bilirubin concentration were an independent prognostic factor for critically ill COVID-19 patients. Of particular importance, we observed a significant elevation of myocardium injury biomarkers, including CK-MB, high-sensitivity cardiac troponini I (hs-cTnI), and Mb, in the non-survivor group. These myocardium injury biomarkers appeared to correlate with the time of survival, and two multivariate models have suggested hs-cTnI was a novel prognostic factor with a sensitivity of 75.0% and a specificity of 84.9%.
Altogether, our study highlighted the prognostic significance of myocardium injury biomarkers in critically ill COVID-19 patients. Monitoring myocardium injury biomarkers would predict patient survival and guide therapeutic strategy.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has the characteristics of chronic relapse and remission, which makes early diagnosis and effective evaluation of disease activity especially crucial. With the development of ultrasound technology, its role in the diagnosis and treatment of IBD is increasing. This study aimed to explore the value of multimodal ultrasound in the assessment of disease activity and complications in IBD.
Patients with clinically confirmed IBD were selected and examined with two-dimensional ultrasound, Doppler ultrasound, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), elastography, endoscopy with biopsies, and whole-abdominal enhanced computed tomography (CT). Collect relevant laboratory data, including C-reactive protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, etc. Endoscopy is used as the gold standard for disease activity assessment, and the diagnostic value of each ultrasound parameter is compared separately, and correlation analysis is made.
Intestinal maximum wall thickness in patients in the disease acd CT were strongly correlated (r=0.799, 0.831). Wall thickness showed a moderate positive correlation with CRP and ESR and a strong positive correlation with Mayo score (P<0.05), but no significant correlation with CDAI (P>0.05).
Multimodal ultrasound provides more detailed clinical reference values for the comprehensive evaluation of IBD.

Airway humidification methods are commonly used in clinical practice, but no clear consensus exists on which particular method is best suited for specific clinical conditions.
In this retrospective study, we carried out a quantitative evaluation of three methods commonly used for patients with severe traumatic brain injury (STBI). We recruited 150 patients who received airway humidification after tracheotomy. Subjects were divided into three groups according to the humidification method they received which included oxygen atomizer (OA) group, heat and moisture exchangers (HMEs) group, and heated humidifiers (HHs) group. Variables including phlegm viscosity, humidification effects, phlegm formation rates, daily sputum inhalation times, airway spasm, secondary lung infections, daily nursing load, and evaluation of nurse job satisfaction levels were documented.
Results indicated that the OA tended to cause either insufficient or excessive humidification, whereas phlegm scab formation was significantly reduced in HHs. HMEs and HHs displayed equal humidification effects, and a similar daily sputum induction and consequent nursing load. Airway spasm was a frequent occurrence in OA. The severity, but not the infection ratio, of secondary infection decreased significantly in HHs by the 30th day. The OA significantly reduced nursing load, but demonstrated the worst humidification effects.
Overall results suggested that the HHs is more suitable for airway nursing of STBI patients who are bedridden for extended periods.

The COVID-19 is a public health issue all over the world. It is an unprecedented challenge for society. Frontline medical staff are at high risk of mental health problems due to the overwhelming workload, worry of infection, and inadequate protective instruments. The study is to investigate the psychological status of medical staff in a women and children's hospital in non-epicenter of COVID-19 during the early stage of the COVID-19 outbreak.
A total of 2,143 hospital medical staff participated in a cross-sectional online survey. Psychological response levels were assessed using the Psychological Questionnaire on Emergency Events in Public Health (PQEEPH), and mental health status was measured using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scale.
Eligible responses were received from 1,890 (90.6%) women and 197 (9.4%) men. In total, 10.3% of respondents rated the psychological impact of the outbreak as moderate or severe, and 4% reported severe anxiety symptoms.
Our findings indicated that the majority of the medical staff are in great level of mental health. IBMX The study demonstrates that females, the 31-40 age group, and those who have been widowed experienced greater levels of anxiety and therefore require more support. Furthermore, the cognition of medical workers might affect their emotional reactions. Measures to decrease anxiety during emergency outbreaks should therefore include communication strategies.

To further the exploration of the pathogenesis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), we aimed to determine the appropriate dose for a rapidly established MCI rat model using D-galactose (D-gal), with lasting cognitive effects.
In Experiment 1, we evaluated various D-gal concentrations (100-2,000 mg/kg/day), and determined that, compared with saline injections of the same volume. In Experiment 2, we evaluated the duration of the effect of 1,000 mg/kg/day D-gal injections for 1 week, with MWM testing initiated at 1 day, 1 month, and 3 months after completion of the injection regime in three model groups, respectively.
In Experiment 1, D-gal injections at a concentration of 1,000 mg/kg/day for 1 week was adequate to induce a significantly worse Morris water maze (MWM) test performance and pathomorphologic changes in the hippocampus, with MWM testing initiated 1 day after completion of the injection regime. In Experiment 2, Before modeling, the overall condition (fur, mental state, foraging behavior, and acti effective and sustainable.
Trachoma-induced upper eyelid cicatricial entropion (UCE) is a common and challenging eyelid disease. Surgeons have developed various surgical techniques to address UCE in the world. However, there are few reports about surgery for Chinese patients. Our study aims to evaluate the esthetic and functional outcomes of correction of trachoma-induced UCE using upper eyelid levator weakening combined with tarsotomy and an anterior lamella recession procedure in China.
A retrospective non-comparative study was performed in the Ophthalmology Department of Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine from January 2017 to December 2019. Thirty-six patients (56 eyelids) with severe UCE caused by trachoma, defined as shortening and retraction of the posterior lamella, were collected. Upper eyelid levator weakening combined with tarsotomy and an anterior lamella recession procedure was done on all patients. The mean follow-up time was 11.6±2.71 months (range, 6-24 months).
Among the patients, 48 eyelids (85.7%) achieved complete success. Recurrence was observed in 4 eyelids (7.1%). No other severe complications occurred.
This case series showed that upper eyelid levator weakening combined with tarsotomy and an anterior lamella recession procedure is a safe and effective treatment for severe trachoma-induced UCE in Chinese patients.

Overweight and obesity can increase the risk for certain adverse obstetric outcomes. Exercise may reduce these risks by promoting weight loss or preventing excessive weight gain. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the effect of exercise therapy on pregnancy complications and birth outcomes in overweight or obese pregnant women through a meta-analysis.
We searched the electronic databases PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science for studies on the effects of exercise therapy on pregnancy complications and birth outcomes in overweight or obese pregnant women. The data were analyzed using Stata software for meta-analysis.
A total of 1,709 pregnant women who met the eligibility criteria were included across 13 studies. The meta-analysis demonstrated a significant difference between the exercise group and the control group in regards to gestational weight gain [GWG; standard mean difference (SMD) -0.21, 95% confidence interval (CI) -0.32 to -0.10)] and gestational hypertension [GH; risk ratio (RR) and 95% CI were 0.
