Sleep problems are common in people with intellectual disabilities (ID), but the knowledge on the natural course of sleep-wake rhythms and sleep problems in elderly persons with ID is limited. In the current study, objectively measured sleep-wake rhythms and the prevalence and severity of sleep problems of elderly persons with ID was compared to that of healthy elderly persons from a large representative sample from the general population.
Actigraphy data of 501 elderly persons with ID (age 62.02±8.02years, 48% female) from the Healthy Ageing and Intellectual Disabilities study was compared to the data of 1734 elderly persons from the general population (age 62.24±9.34years, 53% female) from the Rotterdam Study. Main outcome variables were Interdaily stability (IS) and Intradaily variablitiy (IV), total sleep time (TST), Waking after sleep onset (WASO), Short sleep (TST<6h), Night waking (WASO >90min).
Elderly persons with ID had less stable sleep wake rhythms than elderly persons from the generalnish health problems related to a disruption of sleep.
The differences in sleep-wake rhythms, prevalence and severity of sleep problems between elderly persons with and without ID are marked and possibly explained by medical, psychiatric conditions and lifestyle in elderly persons with ID. Better understanding of sleep in elderly with ID is needed to improve the quality of sleep in this population and to diminish health problems related to a disruption of sleep.
People living with MS during COVID-19 are experiencing the disruptions of the pandemic and concerns that their health status may place them at greater risk for worse COVID-19 outcomes.
This study sought to understand how people living with MS in the United States experienced distress and perceived their COVID-19-related risk during the first surge of the pandemic.
This was a web-based, self-report survey of people with MS who were living in the United States during the early stage of COVID-19. Primary outcomes were depression, anxiety, and positive-affect and well-being. Participants (N=491) also provided data on demographics, MS-related factors, COVID-19 factors, and psychological coping.
Psychological distress was associated with age, psychological coping strategies, and having had symptoms consistent with COVID-19, but not with MS disease-related variables and COVID-19 risk factors. Perception of COVID-19-related risk was associated with age, MS disease severity, COVID-19-related factors, and anxiety.
This study demonstrated that even during COVID-19, distress and risk perception are primarily driven by psychological factors, experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and age, with minimal contribution from individual differences in health status, providing an impetus for continued efforts to optimize psychological interventions for people living with MS.

Dual blockade with trastuzumab and pertuzumab combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) has been increasingly used for HER2-positive tumours >2cm and/or with positive axillary lymph nodes in order to evaluate pathologic response and obtain better surgical management. SB3 is a registered biosimilar trastuzumab approved following a phase III trial demonstrating similar efficacy in the neoadjuvant setting as trastuzumab. However, the study was done without pertuzumab.
The database of the Danish Breast Cancer Group was used to extract data on all patients who started NACT with SB3 and pertuzumab between September 1, 2018 and August 31, 2019. The primary endpoint was pathological complete response (pCR) rate.
In total 215 patients received NACT and dual blockade. The median age was 55 (24-81). NACT used was cyclophosphamide and epirubicin followed by weekly paclitaxel (62% on six cycles, 35% on eight cycles) or other chemotherapy followed by weekly paclitaxel (3%). Overall, 56% of patients achieved pCR. #link# 60 of 88 node-positive patients pre-NACT achieved ypN0(i-) after neoadjuvant treatment. pCR rate was significantly associated with estrogen receptor status and malignancy grade. An association with CEP17/HER2-ratio was assessed.

Real world data on dual blockade with SB3 and pertuzumab in combination with NACT in a nationwide population-based study show a pCR rate comparable to that seen in previous clinical studies.An electrically stimulated anaerobic-aerobic coupled system was developed to improve the biodegradation of refractory phenolics. Expected 4-nitrophenol, 2, 4-dinitrophenol, and COD removals in the system with aerobic cathodic and anaerobic anodic chambers were approximately 53.7%, 45.4%, 22.3% (intermittent mode) and 37.9%, 19.8%, 17.3% (continuous mode) higher than that in the control system (26.0 ± 6.4%, 30.7 ± 7.1%, 49.8 ± 3.0%). 2, 4-dichlorophenol removal in the system with aerobic anodic and anaerobic cathodic chambers was approximately 28.5% higher than that in the control system (71.4 ± 5.7%). The contribution of the aerobic cathodic/anodic chambers to the removal of phenolic compounds was higher than that of the anaerobic cathodic/anodic chambers. The species related to phenolic biodegradation (Rhodococcus, Achromobacter, PSB-M-3, and Sphingobium) were enriched in the cathodic and anodic chambers of the system. These results showed that intermittent electrical stimulation could be a potential alternative for the efficient degradation of refractory phenolics.The combustion behaviours of three components, namely hemicellulose, cellulose, and lignin, and four types of biomass, namely rice straw, bamboo, peanut shell, and chestnut shell, were examined in a drop tube furnace set at 1273 K, in O2/N2 atmospheres containing 21-100% O2. click here was employed to infer the temperatures of the samples. link2 The results show that the ignition mechanisms of cellulose and hemicellulose change at 30% and 70% O2, respectively, and the lignin particle ignites homogeneously at 20-30% O2, heterogeneously at 50% O2, and hetero-homogeneously at 70-100% O2, respectively. The changes in the ignition mechanisms of biomass particles with lignin content > 10% and 10% and less then 10% during combustion process are caused by lignin and hemicellulose, respectively.Microbial electrolysis cell (MEC) technology is a promising bioelectrochemical hydrogen production technology that utilizes anodic bio-catalytic oxidation and cathodic reduction processes. MECs require a lower external energy input than water electrolysis; however, as they also require the application of external power sources, this inevitably renders MEC systems a less sustainable option. link3 This issue is the main obstacle hindering the practical application of MECs. Therefore, this review aims to introduce a self-sustainable MEC technology by combining conventional MECs with advanced carbon-neutral technologies, such as solar-, microbial-, osmotic-, and thermoelectric-powers (and their combinations). Moreover, new approaches to overcome the thermodynamic barriers and attain self-sustaining MECs are discussed in detail, thereby providing a working principle, current challenges, and future perspective in the field. This review provides comprehensive insights into reliable hydrogen production as well as the latest trends towards self-sustainable MECs for practical application.Using bacteriophages (phages) to control zoonotic pathogens in food and animal production is a realistic and promising antimicrobial approach. Recent studies have demonstrated their efficacy and safety, yet bringing phage products on the market remains a challenge. Here we summarize the procedure for advancing phage applications from the laboratory to simplified model systems and testing in pilot scale, to farms and food industries. We highlight the most important contributions concerning phages in food matrices and animal guts, and propose directions for future research required to understand interactions in such complex systems. Finally, we propose a holistic approach combining a data repository with modelling, multi-omic techniques and data analysis to modernize phage-based control of zoonotic pathogens.The Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident in March 2011 resulted in the deposition of significant quantities of radionuclides, including radiocesium (137Cs), over a wide area. Most of the deposited 137Cs is strongly adsorbed on fine soil particles such as clay and silt near the ground surface. Therefore, to estimate the environmental fate of 137Cs, it is necessary to predict its transport with eroded sediment in rainfall-runoff processes. In this study, a distributed radiocesium prediction model was applied to simulations of 137Cs transport associated with hydrological processes in the Abukuma River Basin, the largest river system in Fukushima, over the period of 2011-2012. The soil erosion potential, which is a key input to the distributed radiocesium prediction model, was estimated using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE). This study focused on the uncertainty in estimating the environmental fate of 137Cs associated with the USLE factors. The USLE has five physically meaningful factors the rahe large forest areas in grids with high 137Cs deposition density, and the high concentration of 137Cs in the soil of the undisturbed croplands and paddy fields. This study indicates that land use, especially forest areas, croplands, and undisturbed paddy fields, has a significant impact on the environmental fate of 137Cs.Differential diagnosis of the most common tremor syndromes - essential tremor (ET) and Parkinson's disease (PD) is burdened with high error rate. However, diagnostic MRI biomarkers applicable in this clinically highly relevant scenario remain an unfulfilled objective. The presented study was designed in search for possible candidate MRI protocols relevant for differential diagnostic process in tremor syndromes.10 non-advanced tremor-dominant PD patients meeting diagnostic criteria for clinically established PD, 12 isolated ET patients and 16 healthy controls were enrolled into this study. The study focused on relaxation MRI protocols - T1, T2, adiabatic T1ρ and adiabatic T2ρ due to their relatively low post-processing requirements enabling implementation into routine clinical practice. Compared to ET, PD patients had significantly longer T2 relaxation times in striata with dominant findings in the putamen contralateral to the clinically more affected body side. This difference was driven by alterations in the PD group as confirmed in the complementary comparison with healthy controls.
