No association was found between the consumption of EDs and that of fruits, vegetables, and snacks. Moreover, 36% of the consumers experienced jolt-and-crash symptoms and signs after ED consumption, with 84.5% of them exhibiting increased consumption of salty snacks, sweets, and fast food during the episodes. Our findings showed that ED consumption is not a common practice among governmental university students in Riyadh. Furthermore, the consumption of EDs was correlated with unhealthy dietary habits. Creating educational programs for school going students and providing healthy alternative options to the students is highly recommend. Future research should be conducted using a larger sample and including universities from the private sector, to compare the results.This investigation aimed to determine the relatedness of dominant occurring soil Streptomyces spp. in Northern Jordan based on their RAPD-PCR fingerprints, and to compare RAPD technique with the conventional phenotypic characterization of Streptomyces isolates. Fifty-eight white and gray color-bearing aerial mycelia antibiotic active-producing Streptomyces soil isolates along with three reference strains were genetically analyzed by RAPD-PCR. Polymorphisms between the isolates showed 1 to 10 bands per isolate and ranged from 200 to 3200 bp in size. Results revealed one common band of ~600 bp shared by ~85% of the isolates, and the observation of bands specific to some reference strains and some soil isolates. When RAPD patterns were analyzed with the UPGMA, results revealed clustering the tested isolates into two equal main super clusters (50% each). Various types of materials, including plastics, glass, metals, and papers and their composites, have been used for food packaging. However, owing to consumers' increased health awareness, the significance of transferring harmful materials from packaging materials into foods is of greater concern. This review highlights the interactions of food with packaging materials and elaborates the mechanism, types, and contributing factors of migration of chemical substances from the packaging to foods. Also, various types of chemical migrants from different packaging materials with their possible impacts on food safety and human health are discussed. We conclude with a future outlook based on legislative considerations and ongoing technical contributions to optimization of food-package interactions.
Previous studies reported the efficacy of the implementation of information technology in clinical evaluation. No research has addressed the development of mobile applications for the clinical evaluation and diagnosis of paediatric language disorders.
This study aims to investigate the usability of a clinical assessment mobile application (app) prototype, the "Paediatric Arabic Language Test" (PALT), to diagnose language disorders among paediatric patients.
Using the Lewis Computer Software Usability Questionnaire (CSUQ) and a 5-point Likert Scale, data was collected and scored on the usability of the app prototype developed on two mobile platforms- iPhone and iPad- across a general operating system, iOS. A sample of 77 potential end-users rated the usability of the app prototype that they used between 2017 and 2019.
The average CSUQ rating for the app prototype was 75.68 and 53.2% strongly agreed that the information and its organization was clear and easy to understand; 75% of the end users were very satisfied (p<0.0001). Out of the total items, 68% of studied items on the scale loaded on factor 1 even after subjecting the scale to three standardization methods.
The prototype design was judged to be usable. Users reported an effective user interface that allows effective operation. Differences in the factor loading may be explained by cultural factors, type of task and field context.

Vitiligo can occur anywhere on the body. This proposed explanation of vitiligo makes it clear that vitiligo is not linked to any other autoimmune diseases. The polymorphisms of some genes present in the immune system play a major function in susceptibility of vitiligo. Meta-analysis studies have shown that the Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) gene insertion and deletion polymorphism is closely associated with vitiligo in many ethnicities. The connection between ACE gene and vitiligo is connected through the auto immune diseases and there are no genetic polymorphism studies have been carried out with ACE gene with vitiligo in the Saudi population. Previous studies show that vitiligo patients are more likely to also have an autoimmune disorder. The current study aims to investigate the I/D polymorphism in the ACE gene with diagnosed patients with vitiligo subjects. This is a case-control study carried out in the Saudi population with 100 vitiligo cases and 100 healthy controls. Genotyping was performed through polymerase chain reaction followed by 3% agarose gel electrophoresis. Genotype and allele frequencies were carried out with genetic mode of inheritances. Statistical analysis was performed considering p 0.05) when compared between the vitiligo cases and controls. The correlation between age and genotyping was performed with Anova analysis and current study results confirmed the substantial link between 11 and 20 years (p = 0.01) and 31-40 years (p = 0.04) with the defined age groups. In conclusion, in Saudi populations, the ACE gene I/D polymorphism was identified as being correlated with vitiligo. This is the first study in Saudi Arabia to report the risk factors of vitiligo with the ACE gene polymorphism.Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) has become a threatening public health problem in the developed world. In the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, prevalence of CDI is still unknown due to limited surveillance protocols and diagnostic resources. We used a two-step procedure to study and confirm C. difficile cases. We also studied toxin profiles of these isolates. Stool samples were collected from symptomatic patients and clinically suspected of CDI for almost 12 months. Isolates were confirmed by culture method followed by 16S rRNA sequencing. Multiplex PCR was performed for the identification of toxin A, toxin B and binary toxin genes and compared to Gene Expert results. Out of the 47 collected samples, 27 were successfully grown on culture media. 18 samples were confirmed as C. difficile by both culture and 16S rRNA sequencing. Interestingly, the rest of the isolates (9 species) belonged to different genera. Our results showed 95% of samples were positive for both toxin A and B (tcdA, tcdB) and all samples exhibited the toxin gene regulator tcdC. All samples were confirmed negative for the binary toxin gene ctdB and 11% of the isolates were positive for ctdA gene. Interestingly, one isolate harbored the binary toxin gene (cdtA +) and tested negative for both toxins A and B. We believe that combining the standard culture method with molecular techniques can make the detection of C. difficile more accurate.Fusarium species threaten wheat crops around the world and cause global losses. The global trend is toward using biological materials such as selenium (Se) in nano form to control these fungi. Bulk selenium is toxic and harmful at high doses; however, selenium nanoparticles are safe; therefore, the aim of this study to employ the biological selenium nanoparticles (BioSeNPs) synthesized by Lactobacillus acidophilus ML14 in controlling wheat crown and root rot diseases (CRDs) induced by Fusarium spp., especially Fusarium culmorum and Fusarium graminearum, and their reflection on the growth and productivity of wheat. The ability of BioSeNPs to suppress the development and propagation of F. culmorum and F. graminearum and the CRDs incidence were also investigated. The obtained BioSeNPs were spherical with a size of 46 nm and a net charge of -23.48. The BioSeNPs significantly scavenged 88 and 92% of DPPḢ and ABTṠ radicals and successfully inhibited the fungal growth in the range of 20-40 µg/mL; these biological activities were related to the small size of BioSeNPs and the phenolic content in their suspension. Under greenhouse conditions, the wheat supplemented with BioSeNPs (100 µg/mL) was significantly reduced the incidence of CRDs by 75% and considerably enhanced plant growth, grain quantity and quality by 5-40%. Also, photosynthetic pigments and gas exchange parameters were significantly increased as compared to chemical selenium nanoparticles (Che-SeNPs) and control. This study results could be recommended the use of BioSeNPs (100 µg/mL) in reducing CRDs incidence and severity in wheat plants, enhancing their tolerance with drought and heat stress, and increasing their growth and productivity as compared to control and Che-SeNPs.The impact of trace elements, especially zinc, selenium, copper, and magnesium, on male fertility has gained great interest and significance. Increased oxidative stress and altered trace element levels are probable etiological factors underlying male reproductive dysfunction and infertility. The present study focused on the evaluation of seminal oxidative markers, such as reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA), and total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and trace element levels in the normozoospermic fertile control group (n = 40) and asthenozoospermic infertile group (n = 30). Semen from infertile men exhibited significantly higher ROS and MDA levels accompanied with significant decline in TAC and trace element (zinc and magnesium) levels. Furthermore, a significant correlation was observed between trace elements and oxidative markers with sperm motility. The current study revealed increased lipid peroxidation and oxidant-reductant imbalance that leads to deterioration of semen quality and male infertility. Thus, oxidative stress and trace elements can be considered important biomarkers of male infertility. Measurement of seminal oxidative stress with conventional seminological parameters must be integrated in fertility assessment from early stages to ensure healthy semen characteristics and fertility in men.
