We report a rare case of a laparoscopic resection of a metachronous secondary lymph node metastasis in the mesentery of the ileum after surgery for sigmoid colon cancer with ileum invasion.The aim of this study was to assess cross-cultural differences in autistic traits relating to sensory sensitivity/attention-to-detail versus socio-communicative problems in a Chinese sample. A measure of atypical sensory sensitivity (Glasgow Sensory Questionnaire, GSQ) was translated into Chinese and compared against another measure of autistic traits (Chinese version of Autism Quotient, AQ). A second Chinese sample was administered English-language versions. We show that the translated GSQ has good internal reliability; a similar profile of item responses to the English version; and a significant correlation with the AQ. Secondly we report an unexpected, but replicable, finding amongst the Chinese. Specifically, attention-to-detail was negatively correlated with socio-communicative difficulties (whereas in Western samples it is the reverse).This study investigated how autism spectrum disorder (ASD) impacts children's ability to identify ownership from linguistic cues (proper nouns vs. possessive pronouns) and their awareness of ownership rights. In comparison to typically developing (TD) children matched on receptive language (M age equivalents 53-56 months), children with ASD were less accurate at tracking owner-object relationships based on possessive pronouns and were less accurate at identifying the property of third parties. We also found that children with ASD were less likely to defend their own and others' ownership rights. We hypothesise that these results may be attributed to differences in representing the self and propose that ASD may be characterised by reduced concern for ownership and associated concepts.
We previously showed that Lactobacillus brevis-derived polyphosphate (poly P) exerts a curative effect on intestinal inflammation. However, whether or not poly P improves the inflammation and injury of distant organs remains unclear.
We aimed to investigate the change in the intestinal microbiome and to evaluate the protective effect of poly P on injuries in a cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis (AP) mouse.
Poly P was orally administered to BALB/C mice every day for 24days, and then mice were intraperitoneally injected with cerulein. Before cerulein injection, stool samples were collected and analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Mice were sacrificed at 24h after the last cerulein injection; subsequently, the serum, pancreas, and colon were collected.
The microbial profile differed markedly between poly P and control group. Notably, the levels of beneficial bacteria, including Alistipes and Candidatus_Saccharimonas, were significantly increased, while those of the virulent bacteria Desulfovibrio were decreased in the poly P group. The elevations of the serum amylase and lipase levels by cerulein treatment were suppressed by the pre-administration of poly P for 24days, but not for 7days. The numbers of cells MPO-positive by immunohistology were decreased and the levels of MCP-1 significantly reduced in the AP + Poly P group. An immunofluorescence analysis showed that the ZO-1 and occludin in the colon was strongly augmented in the epithelial cell membrane layer in the AP + Poly P group.

The relationship between histologic disease activity in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and generic measures of quality of life (QoL) is unclear.
To determine differences in QoL in adults with EoE based on histologic activity and assess changes in QoL over time.
We performed an analysis of prospectively collected data from patients in the University of North Carolina EoE Registry. Patients were categorized with histologically active (≥ 15 eosinophils per high-power field [eos/hpf]) or inactive (< 15 eos/hpf) disease. Dysphagia severity was measured with a Likert scale. QoL was measured with 36-Item Short Form (SF-36), compared between active and inactive groups, and assessed longitudinally.
Of 147 EoE cases, those with inactive disease (n = 56) reported less dysphagia severity (3.2 vs. 1.9; p = 0.003) and had lower endoscopic severity (3.8 vs. 1.0; p < 0.001) than those with active disease (n = 91). While SF-36 scores did not differ between active and inactive status, lower mental component scores (MCS) were seen in patients treated with empiric dietary elimination (44.9 vs. 50.8; p = 0.005). Dysphagia severity was negatively correlated with both physical component score (PCS) (r = -0.33; p < 0.001) and MCS (r = -0.18; p = 0.03). Despite more cases achieving histologic response over time, SF-36 scores did not improve on either raw or adjusted analyses.
QoL measured by SF-36 in EoE was similar regardless of histologic disease activity and was in the range of population averages. General QoL metrics like the SF-36 do not appear to have substantial utility in EoE.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) have been associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events. We aimed to investigate the outcomes of myocardial infarction (MI) in patients with IBD.
We performed a cross-sectional study utilizing data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample from the years 1998 to 2010. ICD-9-CM codes were used to identify patients with Crohn's disease (CD) (555.X), ulcerative colitis (UC) (556.X), and acute MI (410.X). Outcomes in patients with MI with and without IBD were compared. Univariate analysis was performed. Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine the effect of UC and CD on in-hospital MI mortality after adjusting for confounders.
A total of 2,629,161 MI, 3,607 UC and 3784 CD patients were analyzed. UC (odds ratio [OR], 1.12; 95% CI 0.98-1.29) and CD (OR 0.99; 95% CI 0.86-1.15) did not affect in-hospital mortality in patients with MI. There was no difference between in-hospital mortality in patients with MI with or without UC (7.75% vs. 7.05%; p = 0.25) or in patients with MI with or without CD (6.50% vs. 6.59%; p = 0.87). The length of stay (LOS) was higher in IBD patients and total charges were statistically higher in patients with UC as compared to non-IBD patients ($65,182 vs. $53,542; p < 0.001).

Polygenic scores (PGS), which characterize this polygenicity as a single score for a given individual, are considered the state-of-the-art in psychiatric genetics research. Despite the proliferation of ADHD studies adopting this approach and its clinical implications, remarkably little is known about the predictive utility of PGS in ADHD research to date, given that there have not yet been any systematic or meta-analytic reviews of this rapidly developing literature. We meta-analyzed 12 unique effect sizes from ADHD PGS studies, yielding an N = 40,088. These studies, which included a mixture of large population-based cohorts and case-control samples of predominantly European ancestry, yielded a pooled ADHD PGS effect size of rrandom = 0.201 (95% CI = [0.144, 0.288]) and an rfixed = 0.190 (95% CI = [0.180, 0.199]) in predicting ADHD. In other words, ADHD PGS reliably account for between 3.6% (in the fixed effects model) to 4.0% (in the random effects model) of the variance in broadly defined phenotypic ADHD. Findings provide important insights into the genetics of psychiatric outcomes and raise several key questions about the impact of PGS on psychiatric research moving forward. Our review concludes by providing recommendations for future research directions in the use of PGS, including new methods to account for comorbidities, integrating bioinformatics to elucidate biological pathways, and leveraging PGS to test mechanistic models of ADHD.The calcaneum is the most inferior and largest tarsal bone and supports the axial load of the weight of the body. In the field of sexually transmitted disease (STD), Roche and Hologic provide assays for diagnosing Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), Mycoplasma genitalium (MG), and Trichomonas vaginalis (TV). A total of 212 clinical samples were tested. Aptima® Combo 2 (detecting CT and NG), Aptima® M. genitalium and the Aptima® T. vaginalis on the Panther® system were compared to CoBAS® CT/NG and CoBAS® TV/MG running on the CoBAS® 6800 system. To solve the discrepancies, Allplex™ STI Essential assay (Seegene®) and/or Sanger DNA sequencing were used. The diagnostic performance was calculated by mean of the sensitivity and specificity parameters. Aptima® (sensitivity 98.90%, specificity 100%), CoBAS® (sensitivity 100%, specificity 96.67%). The CoBAS® combo (CT/NG) failed detecting NG from an anal/rectum specimen, which is not included into the validated specimens of the assay. Aptima® combo 2 produced two false positives (CT and NG), not detected by the third tests. All the assays showed an optimal diagnostic capacity, meeting the requirements for IVD DNA-based assays.
