The use of acoustic waves for microfluidic aggregation has become widespread in chemistry, biology and medicine. Although numerous experimental and analytical studies have been undertaken to study the acoustophoretic aggregation mechanisms, few studies have been conducted to optimise the device design. Here, I review the relevant literature in the interest of advancing the notion that redemptive stories and prosociality exist in a virtuous cycle. Engaging in prosocial acts can stimulate the redemptive framing of one's past. By the same measure, once formed, individuals work to bring the story to life, and the ethos of redemption holds the potential to stimulate and sustain prosocial behavior.Coccidiosis is a disease caused by Eimeria, which represents the first parasitic disease in poultry farming. Among them, E. tenella is a virulent species which specifically colonizes the caecum. The inflammatory response to infection is associated to numerous host proteases including cysteine cathepsins that can be deleterious for tissue and innate immunity integrity. Here, germ-free and conventional chickens were used as models to find out whether the microbiota could modify the intestinal expression of host cysteine cathepsins during coccidiosis. The basal caecal peptidase activity primarily relies on host proteases rather than proteases from the commensal flora. While mRNA levels of E. tenella cathepsins B and L remained unchanged in germ-free and conventional broilers, an overall increase in endopeptidase activity of cysteine cathepsins was found in E. tenella-infected caeca in both experimental models (P less then 0.005). A significant decrease in avian cystatin C transcription was also observed in infected conventional, but not in infected germ-free broilers. Despite an unchanged mRNA level of avian cathepsin L (CatL), its protein expression raised following infection, in parallel with an increased transcription of antimicrobial β-defensins (AvBD1, AvBD2, AvBD4, AvBD6, and AvBD7). Taken together, data support that host CatL is post-translationally upregulated during E. tenella infection, and thus may be involved in the alteration of the gut proteolytic balance. Furthermore, CatL may participate to inflammation occurring during coccidiosis through its known ability to proteolytically inactivates up-regulated avian β-defensins that are key molecules of innate immunity.
The risk of concussion is particularly high in female soccer players. There is no consensus as to why female soccer players are at an elevated risk.

To synthesise current evidence investigating reasons for the increased concussion rate in female soccer players.

Searching of six databases (MEDLINE, Scopus, CINAHL, SportDiscus, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library) and grey literature was performed between 13/07/2020-31/07/2020. Keywords were concussion-related terms, terms relating to female football/soccer and terms relating to the mechanism/cause. No constraints were placed on publication date and quantitative or exploratory studies meeting inclusion criteria were eligible. Exclusion criteria were studies not published in English and qualitative studies.

Several hypotheses were identified to explain increased concussion rates in female soccer players, these include, reduced neck strength/anthropometrics, increased head acceleration, increased ball-to-head concussions, differences in hormones and brain structure/function, and reduced visual awareness.

TGFβ stimulates immune escape by promoting peripheral immune tolerance to avoid tumoricidal attack. Small-molecule inhibitors of TGFβR1 are a prospective method for next-generation immunotherapies. In the present study, we identified selective 4-aminoquinoline-based inhibitors of TGFβR1 through structural and rational-based design strategies. This led to the identification of compound 4i, which was found to be selective for TGFβR1 with the exception of MAP4K4 in the kinase profiling assay. The compound was then further optimized to remove MAP4K4 activity, since MAP4K4 is vital for proper T-cell function and its inhibition could exacerbate tumor immunosuppression. Optimization efforts led to compound 4s that inhibited TGFβR1 at an IC50 of 0.79 ± 0.19 nM with 2000-fold selectivity against MAP4K4. Compound 4s represents a highly selective TGFβR1 inhibitor that has potential applications in immuno-oncology.Migraine is a common neurovascular disease which has been classified as the sixth most disabling disorder. Current migraine therapy was triptans, however, riptans can cause contraction of blood vessels. Therefore, novel drugs without cardiovascular effects emerged, such as CGRP and selective 5-HT1F receptor agonists. In this work, a series of pyridinylmethylenepiperidine derivatives were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their 5-HT1F receptor agonist activity. The results in vitro showed that compound C1-C6 displayed potent agonist activities compared with positive drug lasmiditan. Pharmacokinetic properties in rat indicated that 2,4,6-trifluoro-N-(6-(fluoro(1-methylpiperidin-4-ylidene)methyl)pyridin-2-yl)benzamide (C5) possessed high AUC and good bioavailability. In two rodent models of migraine, C5 significantly inhibited dural plasma protein extravasation and c-fos expression in the trigeminal nucleus caudalis. Moreover, C5 showed no effect on vasoconstriction. Through these studies, we identified C5 as a potent 5-HT1F receptor agonist for migraine therapy.
Most studies suggest that people with chronic neck pain (CNP) have decreased balance abilities. However, balance performance during performing concurrent tasks is not clarified.

To investigate balance performance under different sensory and dual-task conditions in people with and without CNP.

Twenty-two women with CNP and twenty-two asymptomatic women were tested using the Biodex Stability System. link2 Overall stability index (OSI), anterior/posterior stability index (APSI), medial/lateral stability index (MLSI) were obtained in two sessions eyes-open and eyes-closed. Both sessions consisted of four conditions quiet standing, rotating head, counting backward, standing on foam. Higher index scores mean poorer balance.

Case-Control study.

A mixed factorial ANOVA (2×8 design) showed that there was a main effect of CNP on OSI, APSI, and MLSI (p<0.001), which indicates that CNP causes poor balance. Further, there was an interaction between CNP and test conditions for only OSI (p<0.05). Simple effects tests showed that patients with CNP had higher OSI in all conditions except standing on foam with eyes-open, and quiet standing and counting backward with eyes-closed (p<0.05). The largest effect size was obtained during rotating head with eyes-open (η
0.301), followed by counting backward with eyes-open and quiet standing with eyes-open (η
0.267 and 0.245). Performing a concurrent task, closing eyes, or standing on foam mostly increased OSI in both groups (p<0.05).

Achilles tendinopathy (AT) is common, and can be traumatic or insidious in onset and short-lasting or persistent in nature. Factors influencing the experience of pain are poorly understood; little is known about mechanisms driving pain and the response (or lack of) to rehabilitation. Despite this, there is a growing body of evidence supporting the use of exercise to manage AT. Interestingly, variation in exercise approach does not appear to significantly impact outcome. Patients' perceptions of factors related to rehabilitation that may influence outcome could provide a valuable addition to help guide future research and practice.

The aim of this study is to gain an insight into patients' experiences of participating in an exercise-based rehabilitation programme for AT.

A qualitative interpretive description design. Data generated from semi-structured interviews were analysed thematically using the guidelines set out by Braun and Clarke.

This is the first study to use a qualitative method of inquiry to gain data on the experiences of people undertaking exercise-based rehabilitation for AT. The four major themes that were identified from the data were (1) 'understanding the impact' (2) 'expectations' (3) 'what matters' and (4) 'the burden of exercise'.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the mechanisms of effect of our treatments, the insights provide a platform from which researchers and clinicians can consider further in the management of people with Achilles tendinopathy. Specifically, it has highlighted that patients value a flexible, supportive approach embracing the biopsychosocial impact of AT on the individual.
