Metronomic vinorelbine is a great as well as safe and sound strategy for superior breast cancers: any retrospective, observational research.
In addition, MgO/BC showed the efficient removal towards anionic dyes from actual tannery wastewater. This work could provide guidance for the value-added utilization of tannery solid waste and a practical way to remove dyes from tannery wastewater. The presence of both pollutants microplastics and pharmaceutical residues in various environmental compartments is an issue of increasing concern. Available literature data indicates that microplastics can affect the environmental distribution and transport of e.g. persistent organic pollutants (POPs) through sorption interactions, concentrating them at a given point and thus influencing the environmental risks represented by the sorbent and sorbate pair. Therefore, their potential to change the fate of other contaminants in the environment, such as pharmaceuticals, is worth investigating. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sorption capacity of nine pharmaceuticals, commonly used in human and veterinary medicine, which constitute known ubiquitous water pollutants enrofloxacin (ENR), ciprofloxacin (CIP), norfloxacin (NOR), 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), methotrexate (MET), flubendazole (FLU), fenbendazole (FEN), propranolol (PRO) and nadolol (NAD), on the surface of the most often identified microscopic plastic particles in the aquatic environment, i.e. polypropylene (PP), low density polyethylene (LD-PE), high density polyethylene (HD-PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The obtained results suggest a complex nature of sorption, including both hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions. However, since the ionic strength of the medium was found to be a significant factor influencing the sorption potential, minute interactions are observed in conditions common for the natural environment.Analogous to the carbon family, boron nitride (BN)-based materials have gained considerable attention in recent times for applications in various fields. Owing to their extraordinary characteristics, i.e., high surface area, low density, superior thermal stability, mechanical strength, and conductivity, excellent corrosion, and oxidation resistance, the BN nanomaterials have been explored in water remediation. This article critically evaluates the latest development in applications of BN-based materials in water purification with focus on adsorption, synthesis of novel membranes and photocatalytic degradation of pollutants. The adsorption of various noxious pollutants, i.e., dyes, organic compounds, antibiotics, and heavy metals from aqueous medium BN-based materials are described in detail by illustrating the adsorption mechanism and regeneration potential. The major hurdles and opportunities related to the synthesis and water purification applications of BN-based materials are underscored. Finally, a roadmap is suggested for future research to assure the effective applications of BN-based materials in water purification. This review is beneficial in understanding the current status of these unique materials in water purification and accelerating the research focusing their future water remediation applications.Nanoparticles (NPs) can significantly influence toxicity imposed by toxic metals. However, this impact has not been quantified. In this research, we investigated the effect of nano-TiO2 on lead (Pb) accumulation and the resultant toxicity using water flea Ceriodaphnia dubia (C. dubia) as the testing organism. We used a two-compartment modeling approach, which included a two-compartment accumulation model and a toxicodynamic model, on the basis of Pb body tissue accumulation, to quantify the impact of nano-TiO2 on Pb toxicity. The effect of algae on the combined toxicity of Pb and nano-TiO2 was also quantified. The two-compartment accumulation model could well quantify Pb accumulation kinetics in two-compartments of C. dubia, the gut and the rest of the body tissue in the presence of nano-TiO2. Modeling results suggested that the gut quickly accumulates Pb through active uptake from the mouth, but the rest of the body tissue slowly accumulates Pb from the gut. The predicted Pb distribution within C. dubia was verified by depuration modeling results from an independent depuration test. Vadimezan molecular weight The survivorship of C. dubia as a function of Pb accumulated in the body tissue and exposure time can be well described using a toxicodynamic model. The effects of algae on Pb accumulation in different compartments of C. dubia and the toxicity in the presence of nano-TiO2 were also well described using the two-compartment modeling approach. Therefore, the novel two-compartment modeling approach provides a useful tool for assessing the effect of NPs on aquatic ecosystems where toxic metals are present.Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are considered building blocks for bioproducts in the so-called carboxylate platform. These compounds can be sustainably produced via anaerobic fermentation (AF) of organic substrates, such as microalgae. However, SCFAs bioconversion efficiency is hampered by the hard cell wall of some microalgae. In this study, one thermal and two enzymatic pretreatments (carbohydrases and proteases) were employed to enhance Chlorella vulgaris biomass solubilization prior to AF. Pretreated and non-pretreated microalgae were assessed in continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTRs) for SCFAs production. Aiming to understand microorganisms' roles in AF depending on the employed substrate, not only bioconversion yields into SCFAs were evaluated but microbial communities were thoroughly characterized. Proteins were responsible for the inherent limitation of raw biomass conversion into SCFAs. Indeed, the proteolytic pretreatment resulted in the highest bioconversion (33.4% SCFAs-COD/CODin), displaying a 4-fold enhancement compared with raw biomass. Population dynamics revealed a microbial biodiversity loss along the AF regardless of the applied pretreatment, evidencing that the imposed operational conditions specialized the microbial community. In fact, a reduced abundance in Euryarchaeota phylum explained the low methanogenic activity, implying SCFAs accumulation. The bacterial community developed in the reactors fed with pretreated microalgae exhibited high acidogenic activities, being dominated by Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes. Firmicutes was by far the dominant phylum when using protease (65% relative abundance) while Bacteroidetes was prevailing in the reactor fed with carbohydrase-pretreated microalgae biomass (40% relative abundance). This fact indicated that the applied pretreatment and macromolecule solubilization have a strong effect on microbial distribution and therefore in SCFAs bioconversion yields.
