This study aimed to validate the Hindi version of Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination III (ACE-III) in Indian older adults and compare its validity with the Hindi Mini-Mental State Examination (HMSE). Methods A sample of 412 consenting older adults visiting a memory clinic was recruited into the study. They were categorized into three groups healthy controls (n=222), MCI (n=70), and MNCD (n=120). The complete clinical protocol was followed. Hindi ACE-III and HMSE were administered and were statistically analyzed. Results The optimal cut-off values to detect MCI and MNCD with ACE-III were 71 and 62 (AUC 0.849 and 0.884), respectively, which were slightly higher than with HMSE (AUC 0.822, 0.861). Education- and age-stratified cut-offs were also computed. Conclusion Hindi ACE-III has good discriminating power at lower cut-offs than the standard scores in differentiating between MCI and MNCD. © 2020 Bajpai et al.Objective Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis and one of the leading causes of job loss and motor disabilities. Recently, the involvement of dopaminergic pathways and dopamine receptor genes has been considered in this disease. Therefore, studying and comparing the expression pattern of these receptor genes can lead to a greater understanding of the pathogenesis of this disease. Methods In this research, we used the systems biology approach to investigate the role of the dopaminergic pathway in osteoarthritis. Then the gene expression pattern of dopamine receptor genes was examined in an osteoarthritis patientgroup in comparison with healthy individuals by Real-time PCR method. Results The analysis of the transcriptome dataset of osteoarthritis identified some genes in the dopaminergic pathway and the six most important genes in this disease are in the network with a significant relationship to dopamine receptors which differentially expressed compared to health groups. Statistical analysis of the case control study showed a significant difference (P-value less then 0.05) in DRD1 and DRD2 family in the patients in comparison to healthy individuals. Discussion We attained the significant expression pattern of dopamine receptors in the blood of osteoarthritis patients which could be useful to identify new strategies for the diagnosis, management, or treatment of this disease. © 2020 Sheikhpour et al.Purpose The study aimed to investigate the association between body composition and frailty in elder inpatients. Patients and Methods This is a cross-sectional study including 656 elder inpatients (275 females and 381 males) aged ≥65 years, from department of geriatrics of Zhejiang Hospital between January 2018 and March 2019. Sociodemographic, health-related data and anthropometric measurements were evaluated. Body composition was assessed by bioimpedance analysis (BIA), mainly including skeletal muscle mass, body fat mass, total body water, fat-free mass,percent body fat, basal metabolic rate. find more Frailty was assessed by Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS). Univariate logistic regression was used to analyze the association between body composition and frailty. Results Frailty was present in 43.9% of the participants. Subjects with underweight (body mass index (BMI) less then 18.5 kg/m2; odds ratio (OR), 95% confidence interval (CI)=4.146 (1.286-13.368) P=0.017) and those with high waist circumference (OR 95% CI=1.428 (0.584-3.491) P less then 0.001), body fat mass (OR, 95% CI=1.143 (0.892-1.315) P less then 0.001) presented a higher risk of frailty compared to normal subjects. Skeletal muscle mass (OR; 95% CI=0.159 (0.064-0.396) P less then 0.001) was a protective factor for frailty. Conclusion Frailty in elder Chinese inpatients was characterized by a body composition phenotype with underweight, high waist circumference, low skeletal muscle mass and high body fat mass. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effect of repeated vaccination on vaccine effectiveness (VE) among the elderly in Taiwan, during years with and without early appearance of antigenically drifted strains. Methods A historical cohort study was conducted to evaluate the impact of repeated vaccination on the reduction of influenza-associated hospitalization among persons older than 64 years over two influenza seasons 2007-08, with all circulating virus strains mismatched, and 2008-09, with all virus strains matched with the vaccine strains, considering four exposure effects, namelnation against influenza in the elderly, even though the circulating strain of influenza virus was antigenically mismatched with the vaccine strains. © 2020 Hsu et al.
