We further assessed EF using performance-based and rating scale measures. Results revealed that some measures of EF mediated the relationship between ACEs and current mental health, but EF did not mediate the association between ACEs and engagement in risky health-related behaviors. These results partially support a neurodevelopmental model of ACE exposure vis-à-vis future health, focusing on the role of EF.Aiming to follow the prevalence of patellofemoral pain (PFP) among young dancers over 2-years, and to assess the prevalence of re-injured/recovered dancers; 67 dancers (aged 12.8 ± 0.5) were screened for PFP at baseline, 65 dancers at 1st follow-up and 51 dancers at 2nd follow-up. All dancers (46) that took part in all the 3 screenings had at least one episode of PFP along the screenings. No dancers recovered in the 1st follow-up, yet 40.5% of the dancers with PFP at the 1st follow-up recovered in the 2nd follow-up. Along the 3 screenings, 23.9%, 34.8%, and 41.3% of the dancers had 1,2 or 3 PFP episodes, respectively. None of the dancers skipped PFP along the 3 screenings. A high prevalence of dancers had sustained PFP along the 2 follow-ups, with low recovery rate. Dancers and teachers should be alert to the need for devising modifications of training and injury prevention strategies from young age.One new limonoid, named siamensinolide (1), together with two known limonoids (2 and 3) and eight carbazole alkaloids (4-11) were isolated from the twigs of Chalcas siamensis Tanaka. Although the loss of salivary gland function is a major manifestation observed in pSS, the factors that could promote these changes in salivary gland tissue in pSS is not yet determined. Herein, we provide evidence that loss of alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin could contribute to the induction of pSS. Alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin belongs to the family of serpin proteins that function as protease inhibitors and protect secretory cells against proteases, especially to elastases that is secreted from lymphocytes. Importantly, expression of alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin was decreased (more than 3-fold), along with an increase in elastase expression, in pSS samples when compared with age-matched non-SS-SICCA patients. Consistent with the human data, loss of alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin, as well as an increase in immune infiltration, was observed in IL14α transgenic mice that exhibit SS like symptoms. Moreover, an age-dependent increase in elastase expression was observed in IL14α transgenic mice along with a decrease in total saliva secretion. Importantly, a 4-fold increase in microRNA132 expression, but not in other microRNAs, and increased DNA methylation in the promoter/noncoding region of serpina gene was observed in pSS, which could be responsible for the inhibition of alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin expression in salivary gland cells of pSS patients. Together, these findings demonstrate that epigenetic regulations that include DNA methylation and microRNAs that could modulate the expression of alpha-1 antiproteinase antitrypsin in salivary glands and could be involved in the onset of pSS.Tamoxifen (TAM), the most widely used anti-estrogenic drug, inhibits the progression of breast cancer through competing with estrogen for binding to the estrogen receptor (ER). It has recently been stated that some probiotics can improve the efficacy of anticancer drugs via synergistic effects. Here, Local Probiotic Lactobacillus Brevis were isolated and characterized from dairy products and its supernatant was prepared. Proliferation of MCF-7, a breast cancer cell line, was investigated after treatment with Lactobacillus Brevis supernatant (LBS) solely, and in combination with Tamoxifen. In Vitro trials were performed to assess the LBS potency. Bax and Bcl-2 mRNA expression levels and apoptotic effects after these treatments were examined by qRT-PCR and flow cytometry, respectively. The results indicated that LBS induces apoptosis in MCF-7 at high concentrations. Transcription of Bcl-2 was reduced but Bax mRNA expression was enhanced. Tamoxifen's inhibitory effect on the cell growth was synergistically augmented by LBS. In addition, we found that the Bcl-2 mRNA levels in the cells exposed to TAM/LBS were lower than in those treated with TAM alone.
