Queer and provide Hazard: Comprehending the Disparate Influences of Disasters upon LGBTQ+ Residential areas.
Students would like to see a broad range of specific content such as global health, politics, business, and computer science. The majority of respondents would like to see 1 unit of instruction per week and would participate in an appropriate program. Such an offering would promote creative (53.6%), critical (63.7%), and interdisciplinary thinking (69.0%) and train to become better physicians (87%). Conclusion Participants in this study are positive toward the introduction of visionary content in medical school. Faculties should build visionary elective curricula according to the graduate profile requirements of the new NKLM 2.0 to make medical education sustainable. Background Due to a lack of communication strategies and knowledge about the Deaf community, health care professionals are often not prepared to provide deaf or hard of hearing patients with accessible and adapted healthcare. Methods In the present study, a workshop was designed to determine the effect of deaf awareness training on medical students concerning their gain of knowledge regarding deafness and their competence in providing adapted communication and healthcare for deaf and hard of hearing patients. 95 medical students were evaluated in an online survey prior to as well as following the workshop. The workshop was held online in three consecutive sessions. Results Students reported a substantially more confident approach to working with hearing impaired patients and indicated that an online learning environment is a suitable and helpful alternative to face-to-face teaching. Participants improved significantly in all evaluated items concerning their knowledge and competence (p less then 0.001). Furthermore, measurements revealed interaction effects between students' current period of study and the point in time of self-evaluation before and after the workshop. Preclinical students not only catch up but even surpass their clinical peers concerning their learning outcome. Conclusion Reviewing the results obtained by this study, we are optimistic with respect to all participants' highly positive experiences and learning outcomes. Deaf awareness training should be included in the curriculum of all medical faculties. Objectives Digital teaching formats have seen increased use, and not just since the beginning of the pandemic. They can also be used to teach cognitive, practical and communicative learning objectives effectively. We describe the implementation of an online-only course on alcohol/smoking counselling in the COVID-19 summer semester (SS) 2020 and an inverted classroom (IC) concept in the winter semester (WS) 2020/21 at the University Hospital of Würzburg. Methodology The interdisciplinary subject of "prevention" teaches students about high-risk alcohol consumption/smoking and how to conduct a brief verbal intervention. All 143 (SS) and 131 (WS) 6th-semester medical students completed a 90-minute course module 1 included a Prezi® presentation on alcohol/smoking basics. Module 2 introduced a counselling concept (alcohol or smoking) online or classroom-based (WS only), depending on the participants' choice. In the online practical component, each student created a counselling video and reflections at home, and later received written feedback from lecturers/tutors. Supervised role-playing was used in the classroom-based format in the WS. There were 2 exam questions on module 1 at the end of each semester. Results The students surveyed (11%) were satisfied with module 1. Practical exercises and feedback received praise in the evaluation of the classroom-based format (response 97%). It was not possible for all students to perform counselling due to time constraints. A majority of participants filmed live role-playing in the online practical component. The exam questions were answered correctly by 31% (SS) and 36% (WS) respectively. Conclusions Counselling can also be taught digitally creating one's own videos with delayed written feedback is an innovative form of teaching. We are now aiming for a mix of both aspects as an IC with 90 minutes of classroom-based practical exercises. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate resuscitation skills, defined as recognition of resuscitation situations and performance of Basic Life Support (BLS) in students at the Brandenburg Model Medical School (BMM). Methods Participating students (n=102) were randomized to different simulation scenarios unconscious person with physiological breathing (15/min), gasping ( less then 10/min) and apnea (resuscitation dummy AmbuMan® Wireless with electronic recording). Primary endpoint was the proportion of students with correct decision for or against resuscitation. Secondary endpoint was resuscitation quality, self-assessment, and prior resuscitation experience. The latter two were assessed by questionnaire prior to the simulated situation. Results Overall, there was a high risk for incorrectly omitted or incorrectly performed resuscitation (OR 3.4 [95% CI 1.4-8.1] p=0.005. The highest probability of error occurred in the unconsciousness and gasping groups. 22.3% of all performed resuscitations where at the same time indicated and reached the European Resuscitation Council recommendations for compression frequency, pressure depth and where as well = 90% relieved. A particularly large discrepancy emerged between participants' self-assessment of being prepared for a resuscitation situation by medical school and their actual documented resuscitation competence. Conclusion The present data indicate significant uncertainty among students in recognizing a resuscitation situation. Even in curricula with a high proportion of practice and a high degree of students with completed vocational training in health care, resuscitation competence is poor. Objective Work-related vaccinations are recommended for employees in nursing and health care professions due to their elevated risk of infection because of job-related exposure. These vaccinations prevent work-related infections, protect patients and help to maintain the medical infrastructure. Thorough training and imparting of knowledge about vaccinations and work-related infections are essential pillars of the vaccination decision and thus for achieving a protective immune status. The present study examines the knowledge, attitudes and behavior of nursing- and health care students in Hesse regarding work-related infections and vaccinations. Methods In spring 2018, seven nursing schools in Hesse took part in an anonymous survey study. A total of 690 surveys from students of various health care professions were included in the study. The content of the survey was based on the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO), a literature review and sample questions from the World Health Organhrough the dialog between the students and the teacher in the classroom and the occupational physician as part of preventive occupational health check-ups.Twitter data exhibits several dimensions worth exploring a network dimension in the form of links between the users, textual content of the tweets posted, and a temporal dimension as the time-stamped sequence of tweets and their retweets. In the paper, we combine analyses along all three dimensions temporal evolution of retweet networks and communities, contents in terms of hate speech, and discussion topics. We apply the methods to a comprehensive set of all Slovenian tweets collected in the years 2018-2020. We find that politics and ideology are the prevailing topics despite the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic. These two topics also attract the highest proportion of unacceptable tweets. Through time, the membership of retweet communities changes, but their topic distribution remains remarkably stable. Some retweet communities are strongly linked by external retweet influence and form super-communities. The super-community membership closely corresponds to the topic distribution communities from the same super-community are very similar by the topic distribution, and communities from different super-communities are quite different in terms of discussion topics. However, we also find that even communities from the same super-community differ considerably in the proportion of unacceptable tweets they post.Antimicrobials including antibiotics, antiparasitic, and antifungals, are subjected to resistance. In this context, Public Health Organizations called for a One Health approach because antimicrobials used to treat different infectious diseases in animals and plants may be the same than those used in humans. AZD9291 solubility dmso Whereas mechanisms of resistance transmission from animals or environment to humans should be considered differently if related to prokaryotic or eukaryotic pathogens, their impact can be considered as a whole. In that respect, we discussed the use of anti-parasitic in animals including anticoccidials, anthelmintics, and insecticides-acaricides, and the use of azoles in the environment that may both favor the development of drug resistance in humans. In light of the current situation, there is an urgent need for a transdisciplinary approach through anti-parasitic and antifungal stewardship programs in humans, animals, and environment, especially in the era of COVID-19 pandemic that will probably aggravate antimicrobial resistance.Adolescent men who have sex with men (AMSM) are at high HIV risk. Condomless anal intercourse (CAI) increases HIV risk and has been associated with interpersonal power imbalances, such as asymmetries in decision-making authority, social status, and emotional dependence, between male sexual partners. AMSM experience high levels of psychological and physical victimization due to their sexual minority status. Sexual minority victimization (SMV) is similarly associated with low interpersonal power and may relate to the extent to which AMSM are vulnerable to partner influences to engage in CAI. This online survey study of AMSM 14-17 years (N = 143) tested the hypothesis that experiences and attitudes reflecting vulnerability to partner CAI influence (CAI Vulnerability) and distress in response to experienced sexual minority victimization (SMV Distress) would be positively associated with participant and partner condom non-use during anal sex (CAI frequency). Approximately 35% reported they or their partner(s) had never or rarely used a condom. Positive correlations were found among partners' CAI frequency during sex with the participant, CAI Vulnerability, and SMV Distress. Multiple regression indicated CAI Vulnerability significantly accounted for the relation between SMV Distress and partner's CAI frequency. Findings suggest that distress in response to SMV may be associated with a diminished sense of interpersonal control resulting in CAI Vulnerability and subsequent more frequent instances of partner CAI. HIV prevention strategies designed to increase condom use among AMSM have the potential to benefit from procedures aimed at increasing interpersonal sexual assertiveness and decreasing distress associated with sexual minority victimization. We examined the time-course of lexical activation, deactivation, and the syntactic operation of dependency linking during the online processing of object-relative sentence constructions using eye-tracking-while-listening. We explored how manipulating temporal aspects of the language input affects the tight lexical and syntactic temporal constraints found in sentence processing. The three temporal manipulations were (1) increasing the duration of the direct object noun, (2) adding the disfluency uh after the noun, and (3) replacing the disfluency with a silent pause. The findings from this experiment revealed that the disfluent and silence temporal manipulations enhanced the processing of subject and object noun phrases by modulating activation and deactivation. The manipulations also changed the time-course of dependency linking (increased reactivation of the direct object). The modulated activation dynamics of these lexical items are thought to play a role in mitigating interference and suggest that deactivation plays a beneficial role in complex sentence processing.
