Salt-tolerant Pseudomonas entomophila PE3 was isolated from saline soil and screened for plant growth promoting (PGP) traits. The isolate produced indole acetic acid (IAA), gibberellic acid (GA), exopolysaccharides (EPS) and siderophore along with the potential to solubilize potassium (K), zinc (Zn) and phosphorus (P). Maximum stimulation of PGP attributes was recorded at 2% NaCl concentration. To determine the role of EPS, their composition was analyzed (at different salt concentrations) and comparison was done to determine the changes upon exposure to salinity. EPS was found to be rich in carbohydrates, proteins and phenolic compounds. The extracted EPS were also found to possess salt-tolerance properties including antioxidant, hydroxyl scavenging activity, reducing power, emulsification and flocculation potential, and Na+ accumulation ability. Interestingly, the salt tolerance properties of EPS were enhanced upon exposure to salinity (2% NaCl). Finally, EPS based bioformulation of isolate PE3 was checked through field assay in saline soil. With promising results on growth promotion and improved salinity tolerance attributes of inoculated sunflower plants, the bioformulation of PE3 amended with EPS can be a breakthrough for remediation of saline-agroecosystems.
Studies have shown a high degree of comorbidity between cannabis use disorder (CUD) and other mental illnesses. However, there is a paucity of research on the comorbidity between CUD with major depression (MD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). This systematic review with meta-analysis aimed to assess the prevalence and strength of association between co-morbid CUD with MD and GAD.

Elderly patients with late-life depression (LLD) often report mild cognitive impairment (MCI), so Alzheimer's disease (AD) is hard to identify in these patients. We aimed to identify the structural and functional differences between prodromal AD and LLD-related MCI.

We performed voxel-based morphometry and functional connectivity (FC) analyses in elderly patients with both LLD and MCI to compare alterations between those with cerebral amyloidopathy and those without. We subdivided patients into subthreshold depression (STD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) groups. In China, an increasing number of people are aging; therefore, attention should be paid to age-related cognitive impairment. With the increasing attention given to geriatric depression in recent years, we focused our investigation on the relationship between depression in the elderly and cognitive decline in a large Chinese community study.

We screened 4,771 subjects that met the inclusion criteria from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study database. Depressive symptoms and cognitive performance were assessed using the 10-item Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CESD-10) and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), respectively.

We found that 4.46% of the elderly have depression and 35.19% have depressive symptoms. Lower education, higher CESD-10 score, increased age, and more negative marital status were associated with poor cognitive performance in the Chinese elderly. CESD-10 is negatively correlated with each MMSE item, including orientation, memory, attention and computation, and language.

It was difficult to draw conclusions about causation since there was no follow-up data, and high CESD-10 scores do not represent the population study finally diagnosed with depression. Finally, it is not clear whether the decline in cognitive function had an impact on participants' understanding of the problems in the CESD-10.

Placental 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (HSD11B2) is a central gene in this pathway, but little is known about what influences its functioning. see more We assess how maternal distress influences HSD11B2 functioning, and how HSD11B2 in turn, is associated with infant HPA axis development.

Data come from 24 mother-infant dyads on the Galápagos Islands. Using adjusted linear regression models, we assess the effects of maternal psychosocial (stress and depressive symptoms, measured by the Perceived Stress Scale and the Patient Health Questionnaire-8, respectively) and physiological (HPA axis dysregulation) distress during pregnancy on HSD11B2 methylation and expression and then test how these HSD11B2 measures influence infant HPA axis development.

Here, we reported that USP14 knockdown increased pro-inflammatory cytokines production in macrophages upon VSV infection or intracellular Poly(IC)-LMW stimulation. USP14-overexpressed HeLa cells exhibited a decrease in RIG-I-mediated IL-6 and TNF-α expression. This study investigated a severe wildfire influenced on bacterial and fungal communities at four soil depths (0-5, 5-10, 10-15 and 15-20 cm) after two quarters (with similar precipitation and exactly during the rainy season). Soil sampling was conducted in a burned site relative to an undisturbed contiguous site in the North China artificial Pinus tabulaeformis forest. link3 Results indicated that fire had significant effects on bacterial and fungal richness, diversity, composition and structure, including most impacts on the surface mineral soil (0-5 cm) within the first period post-fire and minor impacts on the subsoils (5-20 cm) up to the second period. The microbial richness and some dominant taxa in the undisturbed soils changed with time and depth, suggesting spatiotemporal variation in soil microbial communities although the effects of rainfall were weakened. These differences in microbes between burned and undisturbed soils were mainly driven by soil pH, whereas organic matter and available potassium mediated the distribution of microbial communities along depth and time, respectively. In addition, fungal community was more sensitive to fire and time than bacterial community but an opposite result was found in depth. Nevertheless, soil microbes showed some signs of adaptation to fire. This work advocate that non-intervention should be considered in the short term after a fire or low-intensity water replenishment in the case of aridity.
