Low-level cadmium exposure has been linked to chronic diseases, but the importance of marijuana use as a source of cadmium remains unknown. We aimed to determine the association of marijuana use with blood cadmium (BCd) and urinary cadmium (UCd) levels.
We abstracted data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, 2009-2016. We modeled lifetime marijuana exposure accounting for both duration and frequency of exposure. We used adjusted ratio of geometric means (ARM) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) to compare outcomes among groups of marijuana exposure, relative to never users. The UCd level was adjusted for creatinine excretion.
We included 163,250 adults (mean age, 38.7 years; 50% women). The ARM of BCd was 1.28 (95% CI=1.04, 1.57), 1.40 (95% CI=1.11, 1.76), and 1.77 (95% CI=1.51, 2.09) in current users with <2 uses per week, 2-3 uses per week, and ≥4 uses per week, respectively. Marijuana use for ≥15 years was associated with both higher cadmium burden in adults with <2 uses per week (ARM of 1.30 (95% CI=1.04-1.62) for BCd and 1.48 (95% CI 1.05, 2.09) for UCd or ≥4 uses per week (ARM of 1.69 (95% CI=1.40, 2.05) for BCd and 1.38 (95% CI = 1.11, 1.72) for UCd. In former users, marijuana use was significantly associated with higher UCd levels in those with ≥15 years of use [ARM of 1.39 (95% CI=1.14, 1.69) for those with <2 uses/week and 1.51 (95% CI=1.19, 1.92) for those with ≥4 uses/week].
The BCd level was higher in both current and former marijuana users than in never users. Marijuana use was also associated with higher UCd levels after a long-term use.

Data relating to the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Middle East remains sparse. This study examines the public's perceptions of the pandemic, assesses the extent to which participants have adhered to a range of recommended health-protective behaviours to prevent infection and evaluates whether anxiety about COVID-19 or perceptions related to the pandemic are associated with greater adherence to these behaviours.
A cross-sectional, survey-based design was used. Data were collected using an electronic survey distributed to students, staff and faculty at universities in the three major cities of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai, between the 23rd and 31st of April 2020. A total of 634 participants were included in the analysis.
Participants reported whether they had adhered to health-protective behaviours such as spatial distancing, increased hygiene and disinfection and diminished time spent outside their homes. They also reported the perceived efficacy of a range of ess of the information portrayed in the media and the perceived duration of the pandemic - whether this would resolve soon or persist well into the future - did not impact adherence.
Dissemination of reliable public health information during a public health crisis is essential. This study's results highlight the importance of providing the public with information that is clear and consistent and, moreover, emphasises the efficacy of the recommended behaviours as this is likely to improve adherence. When individuals perceive themselves to be at personal risk and are aware of the severity of the consequences posed by the illness, they are more likely to adopt caution. There is an unmet and immediate need to escalate the mental health services in Kashmir consisted of community participation, awareness programs, and mental health rehabilitation services.Perfluorocarbons hold great promise both as imaging agents, particularly for 19F MRI, and in therapy, such as oxygen delivery. 19F MRI is unique in its ability to unambiguously track and quantify a tracer while maintaining anatomic context, and without the use of ionizing radiation. This is particularly well-suited for inflammation imaging and quantitative cell tracking. However, perfluorocarbons, which are best suited for imaging - like perfluoro-15-crown-5 ether (PFCE) - tend to have extremely long biological retention. Here, we showed that the use of a multi-core PLGA nanoparticle entrapping PFCE allows for a 15-fold reduction of half-life in vivo compared to what is reported in literature. This unexpected rapid decrease in 19F signal was observed in liver, spleen and within the infarcted region after myocardial infarction and was confirmed by whole body NMR spectroscopy. We demonstrate that the fast clearance is due to disassembly of the ~200 nm nanoparticle into ~30 nm domains that remain soluble and are cleared quickly. We show here that the nanoparticle ultrastructure has a direct impact on in vivo clearance of its cargo i.e. allowing fast release of PFCE, and therefore also bringing the possibility of multifunctional nanoparticle-based imaging to translational imaging, therapy and diagnostics.
The role of inflammation in the early development of vascular dysfunction remains complex. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) can cause an acute imbalance in the von Willebrand factor (vWF)-ADAMTS13 interaction, indicating a possible link between markers of haemostasis and low-grade inflammation. Covariates included socioeconomic status, age, estimated glomerular filtration rate, 24-hour systolic blood pressure, waist circumference, glucose, total cholesterol, platelet count, γ-glutamyl transferase and total energy expenditure.
