Circ_0004018 inhibits mobile growth and also migration inside hepatocellular carcinoma through miR-1197/PTEN/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.
Silk fibroin (SF) is a biomacromolecule that can be assembled into nanostructures and induce biomimetic nucleation of inorganic materials. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), a metal-organic framework (MOF), can be dissolved selectively under acidic pH. Here, we integrated SF and ZIF-8 to develop novel drug carriers that selectively release drug in the acidic intracellular environment of cancer cells. Specifically, SF was assembled into nanoparticles (SF-NPs), which were then loaded with an antitumor drug, doxorubicin (DOX), to form DSF-NPs. Due to the SF-mediated organization of ZIF-8 precursors such as zinc ions, the DSF-NPs further templated the nucleation of ZIF-8 onto their surface to generate core-shell-structured NPs (termed DSF@Z-NPs) with ZIF-8 as a shell and DSF-NP as a core. We found that the DSF@Z-NPs, highly stable under neutral conditions, could be uptaken by breast cancer cells, release DOX selectively owing to dissolution of ZIF-8 shells in the acidic intracellular environment in a controlled manner, and induce cell apoptosis. We also confirmed that the DSF@Z-NPs could inhibit tumor growth more efficiently to reach a higher survival rate than their controls by inducing cell apoptosis in vivo. Baf-A1 in vivo Our study suggests that SF and MOF could be combined to design a new type of cancer therapeutics. The achievement of atomic control over the organic-inorganic interface is key to engineering electronic and spintronic properties of molecular devices. We leverage insights from inorganic chemistry to create hard-soft acid-base (HSAB) theory-derived design principles for incorporation of single molecules onto metal electrodes. A single molecule circuit is assembled via a bond between an organic backbone and an under-coordinated metal atom of the electrode surface, typically Au. Here, we study molecular composition factors affecting the junction assembly of coordination complexes containing transition metals atoms on Au electrodes. We employ hetero- and homobimetallic lantern complexes and systematically change the coordination environment to vary the character of the intramolecular bonds relative to the electrode-molecule interaction. We observe that trends in the robustness and chemical selectivity of single molecule junctions formed with a range of linkers correlate with HSAB principles, which have traditionally been used to guide atomic arrangements in the synthesis of coordination complexes. We find that this similarity between the intermolecular electrode-molecule bonding in a molecular circuit and the intramolecular bonds within a coordination complex has implications for the design of metal-containing complexes compatible with electrical measurements on metal electrodes. Our results here show that HSAB principles determine which intramolecular interactions can be compromised by inter molecule-electrode coordination; in particular on Au electrodes, soft-soft metal-ligand bonding is vulnerable to competition from soft-soft Au-linker bonding in the junction. Neutral donor-acceptor intramolecular bonds can be tuned by the Lewis acidity of the transition metal ion, suggesting future synthetic routes toward incorporation of transition metal atoms into molecular junctions for increased functionality of single molecule devices.
Liver fluke, Opisthorchis viverrini, is associated to cholangiocarcinoma which is found frequently in some areas of Southeast Asian countries particularly in Thailand, Lao People Republic Democratic, Cambodia. This study sought to investigate the effects of an O. viverrini and cholangiocarcinoma (OVCCA) web application to facilitate health literacy regarding O. viverrini in Northeast Thailand.

A randomized controlled trial study was performed among an intervention group (n=63) and a control group (n=63) during a one-year period from July 2019 to May 2020. The intervention group received the health literacy promotion program of O. viverrini information through the OVCCA web application for 6 weeks. The control group received an activity package from the public health department. The success of the program was evaluated at week 24 after the groups finished the last activity. ANCOVA, t-test and multiple logistic regression were used for data analysis for both groups.

The scores for knowledge; ability to access, understand, appraise, and apply information; motivation for protection; and practice of O. viverrini prevention were significantly higher for the intervention group than for the control group. The results indicated that a health literacy promotion program through an OVCCA web application could be advantageous for preventing and controlling O. viverrini infection.

This intervention may be used as a potential strategy and guideline for self-care and health promotion in other endemic areas.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is considered the highest recorded malignancy in Egypt. The shortage of appropriate biomarkers for early detection often results in the late diagnosis of the HCC. Circular RNAs (CircRNAs) are presented as long stranded non-coding RNA that combine covalently to make a sealed circular form which make them very stable. CircRNAs are known to have interpretative role in cancer development and metastasis.

To examine the dysregulation of two new CircRNAs obtained from Circbase database (hsa_circ_0064286 and hsa_circ_0000475) in the serum of HCC patients as predictable diagnostic biomarkers of HCC and their correlation with some liver biochemical parameters.

Sixty clinically diagnosed HCC Egyptian patients and 25 healthy volunteers were enrolled in the study. Expression levels of the selected CircRNAs was evaluated in subjects' serum. Moreover, correlation with liver biochemical parameters, sensitivity, and specificity of studied CircRNAs were estimated.

Both circular RNAs were significantly down regulated in HCC patients, which was negatively correlated with ALP, ALT, AST, AFP, and bilirubin levels. Circ_0064286 showed more sensitivity and specificity (88.3% and 96%, respectively).

As far as we know, this is the first study that shed light on the expression levels of both circRNAs in Egyptian HCC patients. They may serve as potential biomarkers for HCC diagnosis. Moreover, those circRNAs draw attention as therapeutic targets for HCC through targeting their sponge miRNAs.

Early diagnosis and eradication of H. pylori infection are important to eliminate the risk of gastric cancer. Several invasive diagnostic techniques require biopsy samples, resulting in avoidable injury and medical expense. Furthermore, due to the localized distribution of H. pylori, random biopsies are not always reliable in diagnosing H. pylori infection. This article aimed to review endoscopic findings and new endoscopic options for the diagnosis of H. pylori infection. Using conventional white light imaging (WLI) and image-enhanced endoscopy (IEE), the endoscopic features associated with histological changes have increasingly become apparent. Real-time endoscopy is essential to make a diagnosis of H. pylori infection and allow targeted biopsy. Image-enhanced endoscopy (IEE), such as narrow-band imaging (NBI), linked color imaging (LCI), and blue laser imaging (BLI), enhances visualization of the surface vascular pattern and provides accurate diagnostic performance in H. pylori infection, as well as gastric neoplastic lesions, compared to conventional white light endoscopy. In conclusion, the new endoscopic technologies could be used in current practice with conventional white light endoscopy for accurate and real-time diagnosis of H. pylori infection and pre-cancerous lesions.
Head and neck cancer constitute one-third of all cancers. Due to the complex nature of Head and Neck Cancer treatment, expenditure on cancer treatment are higher and the Quality of Life of patients is also compromised. The objectives of the study were to determine the time taken by patients for seeking care from registered medical practitioners, time to definitive diagnosis and treatment initiation, expenditure incurred, and Quality of Life.

The present study was a cross-sectional descriptive involving outpatient with head and neck cancer reported to the department of radiotherapy, regional cancer center, JIPMER. The quality of life was assessed using validated FACT-Hand N scales.

The preferred first contact for seeking care for most was the private sector (52%). The median (IQR) presentation interval, diagnostic interval, and treatment initiation interval were 36.5 (16 - 65.7), 14 (7 - 31.5), and 65.5 (45 - 104) days respectively. The average indirect cost incurred was INR 8424 (4095-16570) in JIPMER, n was more than two months. The expenditure during the treatment was mainly because of indirect cost and wage loss. The functional quality of life was severely impaired for the majority of the cases.
To analyze the accuracy of clinical indicators of constipation in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

A diagnostic accuracy study was conducted from February to September 2018, with 240 cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. link2 The data collection instrument was a form with sociodemographic and clinical variables, and clinical indicators of constipation.
