Carotid artery lumen diameter (CALD) and carotid artery intima-media thickness (CIMT) are essential factors for estimating the risk of many cardiovascular diseases. The automatic measurement of them in ultrasound (US) images is an efficient assisting diagnostic procedure. Despite the advances, existing methods still suffer the issue of low measuring accuracy and poor prediction stability, mainly due to the following disadvantages (1) ignore anatomical prior and prone to give anatomically inaccurate estimation; (2) require carefully designed post-processing, which may introduce more estimation errors; (3) rely on massive pixel-wise annotations during training; (4) can not estimate the uncertainty of the predictions. In this study, we propose the Anatomical Prior-guided ReInforcement Learning model (APRIL), which innovatively formulate the measurement of CALD & CIMT as an RL problem and dynamically incorporate anatomical prior (AP) into the system through a novel reward. With the guidance of AP, the designed keypoints in APRIL can avoid various anatomy impossible mis-locations, and accurately measure the CALD & CIMT based on their corresponding locations. Moreover, this formulation significantly reduces human annotation effort by only using several keypoints and can help to eliminate the extra post-processing steps. Further, we introduce an uncertainty module for measuring the prediction variance, which can guide us to adaptively rectify the estimation of those frames with considerable uncertainty. Experiments on a challenging carotid US dataset show that APRIL can achieve MAE (in pixel/mm) of 3.02±2.23 / 0.18±0.13 for CALD, and 0.96±0.70 / 0.06±0.04 for CIMT, which significantly surpass popular approaches that use more annotations. The effectiveness of immunotherapy highly correlates with the degree and the type of infiltrated immune cells in the tumor tissue. Treatments based on modifying the immune cell infiltrate of the tumor microenvironment are thus gaining momentum. Therefore, the aim of our study was to investigate the effects of gene therapy with two proinflammatory chemokines CCL5 and CCL17 on inflammatory cytokine expression profile and immune cell infiltrate in two murine breast tumor models, 4T1 and E0771, and two murine colon tumor models, CT26 and MC38. In vitro, lipofection of plasmid DNA encoding CCL5 or CCL17 resulted in changes in the cytokine expression profile similar to control plasmid DNA, implying that the main driver of these changes was the entry of foreign DNA into the cell's cytosol. In vivo, gene electrotransfer resulted in high expression levels of both Ccl5 and Ccl17 transgenes in the 4T1 and CT26 tumor models. Besides a minor increase in the survival of the treated mice, the therapy also resulted in increased expression of Cxcl9 and Ifnγ, potent activators of the immune system, in CT26 tumors. However, this was not recapitulated in changes of TME, implying that a further refinement of the dosing schedule is needed.Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris is an acidophilic and thermophilic bacterium present in the soil, often associated with the spoilage of acidic juices, such as orange juice. Their spores resist pasteurization and, when reactivated, modify the organoleptic properties of the juice, making it unsuitable for consumption, due mainly to production of guaiacol. Biosensors are detection devices that respond quickly and are easy to handle, with great potential for use in the juice production chain. In this context, this work reports an electrochemical genosensor for detection of A. acidoterrestris, based on a graphite electrode modified with electrochemically reduced graphene oxide, a polymer derived from 3-hydroxybenzoic acid and a specific DNA probe sequence complementary with the genomic DNA of A. acidoterrestris. Detection of the target was performed by monitoring the oxidation peak of the Hoechst 33258, a common DNA stainer. The genosensor detection limit was 12 ng mL-1 and it kept 77% of response after ten weeks, and a test showed that orange juice does not interfere with bacteria lysate detection. This biosensor is the first platform for electrochemical detection of the genomic DNA of A. acidoterrestris in the literature, and the first to use Hoechst 33258 as indicator with whole genomic DNA molecules.
International studies have suggested that social disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have led to sexual dysfunction, but the impact on males in the United States is less defined.
To examine changes in male sexual function during the COVID-19 pandemic and to evaluate associated demographic variables.
Prepandemic survey data was collected between October 20, 2019 and March 1, 2020 on adult males in the United States. Follow-up survey data collected for comparison during the COVID-19 pandemic between August 1, 2020 and October 10, 2020 included International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) scores, Patient Health Questionnaire for Depression and Anxiety with 4 items (PHQ-4) scores, and questions regarding sexual frequency. Questions were also asked about mask-wearing habits, job loss, relationship changes, and proximity to individuals who tested positive for COVID-19.
Differences in prepandemic and pandemic male sexual function assessed by self-reported IIEF domain scores and sexual frequency REUnited States A Survey Study of Male Cannabis Users. J Sex Med 2021;9100340.
The COVID-19 pandemic is associated with increased sexual frequency and no change in overall sexual function in males in the United States. Interventions intended to promote male sexual health during the COVID-19 pandemic should include a focus on mental health. Chen T, Bhambhvani HP, Kasman AM, et al. Implications of lubricant use in men having sex with men (MSM) are poorly characterized, particularly associations with sexual behavior and rectal sexually transmitted infection (STI) risk.
We sought to clarify covariates associated with lubrication type including differing sexual preferences and rectal STI prevalence.
Primary English-speaking individuals ≥18 years old visiting San Francisco City Clinic (SFCC) between April and May of 2018 who endorsed lubricant use during receptive anal sex within the last 3 months were studied. Associations between lubrication type used and collected covariates were assessed using Kruskal-Wallis analysis of variance for continuous variables and Chi-squared test for categorical variables. PARP/HDAC-IN-1 cell line We used logistic regression to examine the association between lubrication type and rectal STI test result.
Rectal STI test positivity.
From all enrolled participants, 179 completed the survey and endorsed use of a lubricant during receptive anal sex within the last 3 months. Silicone lubricant users had the most sexual partners in the last 3 months (13 [mean] ± 30 [SD], P= .
