Surgical planning relies on the use of images to develop an action plan prior to the actual surgical intervention. Imaging technology improvement together with the development of specific software to treat three dimensional images has increased the accuracy and capabilities of pre-surgical planning. In addition to this, 3D printing allows us to manufacture customized surgical tools to implement and aid in the success of surgeries.

3D virtual planning together with 3D printing has been implemented through different approaches in 8 different upper extremity trauma cases. We describe these 8 cases (2 women and 6 men with ages ranging from 16 to 67 years), their specific challenges and management.

We show how 3D technology changes the conception, planning and execution of surgery in 8 different cases. In addition, we describe what challenges were faced as well as the various utilities of 3D technology beyond that of anatomical model printing.

The use of 3D technology has improved and enhanced surgical planning. It allows us to view and virtually manipulate fracture fragments prior to surgery. It also enables us to develop customized surgical tools and guides that can increase the accuracy of certain procedures, and help in the management of orthopaedic and trauma lesions. Bufalin mouse We believe that the use of this technology is beneficial to both the patient and surgeon, since it reduces surgical time and complications giving a better understanding of the injury and its treatment.

Timely definitive paediatric trauma care influences patient and parental physical and emotional outcomes. New South Wales (NSW) covers a large geographical area with all three NSW paediatric trauma centres (PTC) located in two approximated major cities, meaning it is inevitable that some injured children receive initial treatment locally and then require transfer. Little is known about the factors that then impact timely arrival of injured children to definitive care.

This included children admitted between July 2015 and September 2016, <16 years with an injury severity (ISS) ≥9; or requiring intensive care admission; or deceased following injury. Children were identified through the three PTCs, NSW Trauma Registry and NSW Medical Retrieval Registry.

There were 593 children admitted following injury and 46% required transfer to a PTC. There was no significant difference in age, ISS, ICU admission or head injury (AIS >2) between transferred and directly transported cohorts. There were significant dvariation amongst transport providers and improve time to definitive care.
Clinicians caring for paediatric trauma patients in facilities outside trauma centres require the capability and opportunity to identify and notify early those requiring transfer for ongoing management. The provision of a streamlined referral and transfer process for all paediatric trauma patients requiring treatment in NSW PTCs would reduce the burden on the referring facility, reduce variation amongst transport providers and improve time to definitive care.Inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) is produced by both bacteria and their eukaryotic hosts, and it appears to play multiple important roles in the interactions between those organisms. However, the detailed mechanisms of how polyP synthesis is regulated in bacteria, and how it influences both bacterial and host biology, remain largely unexplored. In this review, we examine recent developments in the understanding of how bacteria regulate the synthesis of polyP, what roles polyP plays in controlling virulence in pathogenic bacteria, and the effects of polyP on the mammalian immune system, as well as progress on developing drugs that may be able to target bacterial polyP synthesis as novel means of treating infectious disease. This paper presents a two-component framework to detect model-plant mismatch (MPM) in cross-directional (CD) processes on paper machines under model-predictive control. First, routine operating data is used for system identification in closed loop; second, a one-class support vector machine (SVM) is trained to predict MPM. The iterative identification method alternates between identifying the finite impulse response coefficients of the spatial and temporal models. It converges, and the parameter estimates are asymptotically consistent. Coefficient estimates drawn from normal operation are used to train a one-class SVM, which then detects model-plant mismatch in subsequent routine operation. This approach applies to routine operating data without requiring external excitations. It can also distinguish mismatches in the process model from changes in the noise model. Examples of CD processes on paper machines are provided to verify the effectiveness of both components. The paper describes a modified non-contact Hall sensor based centrifugal and momentum force type flow transducer with simple design, low cost and rugged construction. In this transducer two identical permanent magnets are fixed on the two ends of the common balance lever on which sensing U-tube and dummy U-tube are placed at equal distances from the pivot. The movement of lever ends with variation of flow rate, changes the magnet positions with respect to the two identical Hall sensors fixed at two locations just below the magnets. Thus the outputs of the Hall sensors supplied from a stabilized DC source vary with the variation of flow rate. The difference between these outputs is a DC voltage signal non-linearly related with flow rate. The main goal of this article is to consider the fixed time control problem of perturbed chaotic systems by virtue of sliding mode control. For this aim, this article presents a novel fixed time stability theorem at first by the Lyapunov tools. Then combining the obtained stability theorem and sliding mode technique, a new sliding mode surface is constructed and some novel controllers are designed appropriately to stabilize the discussed chaotic system. The proposed controllers have two main advantages (1) The control criteria is robust against the effects of perturbations. (2) The convergence time, which is only dependent on the control parameters regardless of the initial conditions, is bounded by a fixed constant. Finally two typical systems are taken as the numerical examples to verify the validity of the control strategy. The accurate mathematical model of the dynamic multi-rigid-body mechanical system of unmanned bicycle is established by using the Kane method, and the derivation is presented in detail. And then, the stability of the unmanned bicycle system is analyzed based on the obtained model. In addition, the influence factors to the stability which is caused by changing of the structure parameters of wheelbase, centroid of the bicycle, head fork angle, fork trail and the velocity of the bicycle are analyzed. The balance mechanism of unmanned bicycle is revealed based on the analysis, and the reasonability of the key structure revolution in the development history of bicycle is explained. The model of unmanned bicycle provided solid theory evidences for the optimization of the bicycle structure parameters. Four universal laws for balancing the bicycle are summarized by system analyzing, and the full state feedback control which combines the correcting function of velocity with optimum control is presented. The results of simulation and physical experiment show that the correctness of the dynamic model of the unmanned bicycle and the validity of the control strategy.
During aerobic physical activity (PA), hypoglycemia is common in people with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Few studies have compared the effectiveness of different carbohydrate (CHO) intake strategies to prevent PA-induced hypoglycemia. Our objective was to compare the efficacy of two CHO intake strategies, same total amount but different CHO intake timing, to maintain glucose levels in the target range (4.0-10.0mmol/L) during PA in people with T1D.

An open-label, randomized, crossover study in 33 participants (21 adults; 12 adolescents). Participants practiced 60min PA sessions (ergocyle) at 60% VO
3.5h after lunch comparing an intake of 0.5g of CHO per kg of body weight applied in a pre-PA single CHO intake (SCI) or in a distributed CHO intake (DCI) before and during PA. The percentage of time spent in glucose level target range during PA was not different between the two strategies (SCI 75±35%; DCI 87±26%; P=0.12). Hypoglycemia (<4.0mmol/L) occurred in 4 participants (12%) with SCI compared to 6 participants (18%) with DCI (P=0.42). The SCI strategy led to a higher increase (P=0.01) and variability of glucose levels (P=0.04) compared with DCI.

In people living with T1D, for a 60min moderate aerobic PA in the post-absorptive condition, a 0.5g/kg CHO intake helped most participants maintain acceptable glycemic control with both strategies. No clinically significant difference was observed between the SCI and DCI strategies. ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT03214107 (July 11, 2017).

The conclusions about the relationship between TGF gene polymorphism and the risk of RA are still inconsistent. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to re-evaluate the relationship between TGF-β1 T869C gene polymorphism and the risk of rheumatoid arthritis.
We performed a systematic electronic search in PubMed, Embase, Elsevier, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Medline and China National Knowledge Infrastructure database (up to August 2020). In the subgroup analysis, we divide the research into three groups Asian, European and Mediterranean, The combined OR and 95%CI of the five models (allele model, homozygous model, heterozygous model, dominant model, recessive model) were calculated, respectively.

15 case-control studies (14 articles) were involved in this meta-analysis, including 2103 cases and 2143 healthy controls. In the overall analysis, it showed that there may be an significant association between TGF-β1+869T/C polymorphism and RA sensitivity (allele model, T vs.
