Different parts of
(L.) were used in traditional medicine in various parts of the world for the treatment of health problems, and they possess significant biological activities. The present study aimed to estimate phytochemical and biological activities of
using different extraction solvents.
Methanolic, acetone, and n-hexane extracts of selected species were prepared, and ten secondary metabolites were examined using standard protocols. The antioxidant activity was performed using three
methods, namely, DPPH assay, total reducing power (TRP) assay, and total antioxidant capacity (TAC). Toxicological analysis was done using the brine shrimp cytotoxic assay and radish seed phytotoxic assay.
The
methanolic extract showed the highest phenolic (178.27 ± 17.17 mg/GAE/g) and flavonoid (18.50 ± 1.64 mg QE/g) contents. Similarly, the methanolic extract also revealed the highest DPPH activity (32.80 ± 9.66 IC
), reducing potential (0.53 ± 0.02 mg/g), and TAC (19.42 ± 0.97 mg/g) as compared to the actively involved in antioxidant activities and possess toxicological properties. This upholds the folkloric use of T. officinale as a possible source to develop natural plant-based drugs. Further investigations to isolate bioactive compounds and elements and on their safety need to be conducted.
Sepsis is defined as a host inflammatory response to infection that can result in end-organ dysfunction. One of the most common consequences of sepsis is acute kidney injury (AKI).
powder (PNP) has been previously reported to protect against overactive inflammation process. However, the potential effect of PNP on septic AKI is poorly described. The current study was conducted to investigate the protective effects of PNP in septic AKI rats.
A model of septic AKI was established on male SD rats by using the cecal ligation and puncture procedure. PNP was administrated by gavage after the cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) procedure, and the mice were sacrificed at 6, 12, and 72 h after induction of sepsis. The serum and kidney samples were collected and assayed for biochemical tests, histopathological staining, inflammation, and apoptosis-related gene/protein expression. In addition, 15 rats in each group were used to calculate the 7-day survival rate.
CLP-induced kidney injury was observed by the histopathological score, which markedly was attenuated by PNP treatment. Consistently, PNP intervention significantly alleviated the elevated levels of serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen in CLP-induced sepsis rats. The CLP procedure also triggered proinflammatory cytokine production and increased the expression of various inflammation-related proteins in the kidneys. Brivudine However, PNP inhibited the renal expression of IL-18, IL-1
, TNF-
, and IL-6 to substantially improve inflammatory response. Mechanistically, CLP induced the increase of the NF-
B p65 level in the injured kidneys, while PNP notably inhibited the corresponding protein expression.
PNP attenuated kidney inflammation to protect against CLP-induced septic AKI in rats via inhibiting the NF-
B signaling pathway.

Many of these vaccine adverse events occur with different vaccines with different occurrence frequencies. Many of these adverse events are generally considered as associated with immune responses to the active vaccine components (antigens) and/or to possibly one or more of the vaccine excipients. Most of these vaccine adverse events are self-limiting and resolve within days. Many of these adverse events symptoms overlap symptoms associated with elevated histamine levels. Based on these observations, the hypothesis that the majority of vaccine associated reactogenicity adverse events are caused by temporal histamine intolerance in vaccinees is proposed. This hypothesis is based on a model of innate immune responses releasing a surge of inflammatory molecules including histamine; this surge is hypothesized to exceed the normal histamine tolerance level for vaccinees with reactogenicity adverse events. Further, these symptoms resolve as histamine levels fall below the vaccinee's tolerance threshold. This model can be evaluated by the detection of elevated histamine levels in vaccinees corresponding to timing of symptoms onset. If confirmed, a direct consequence of this model predicts that some antihistamine treatments, mast cell stabilizers, and possibly diamine oxidase enzyme may reduce the incidence or severity of adverse events experienced by vaccinees post vaccinations for most or all high reactogenicity vaccines including coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Spike vaccines.Bidirectional ventricular tachycardia (BiVT) is a rare form of ventricular tachycardia that manifests on surface electrocardiogram by dual QRS morphologies alternating on a beat-to-beat basis. It was first reported in the 1920s as a complication of digoxin, and since then, it has been reported in other conditions including fulminant myocarditis, sarcoidosis, catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, and Andersen-Tawil syndrome. The mechanism for BiVT is not as well known as other forms of ventricular tachycardia but appears to include typical mechanisms including triggered activity from afterdepolarizations, abnormal automaticity, or reentry. This review will go beyond the definition, surface electrocardiogram, mechanisms, causes, and treatment of BiVT as per our current understanding. We investigate the influence of contact angle variations on spontaneous imbibition of moisture in porous materials. While the contact angle is typically assumed constant when modelling the moisture transfer in porous media, experimental findings put this assumption into question. It has been shown that during imbibition the contact angle notably rises with increasing meniscus velocity. This phenomenon resultantly affects the moisture retention curve, the relation linking the local capillary pressure to the local moisture saturation, which in turn impacts the imbibition rate and moisture distribution. This study investigates these dynamic effects via a pore network technique as well as a continuum approach. It is shown that the impacts of pore-scale contact angle variations on the imbibition process can be reproduced at the continuum scale through a modified moisture retention curve including a dynamic term. Complementarily a closed-form equation expressing the dynamic capillary pressure in terms of local saturation and saturation rate is derived. The continuum approach is then finally employed to predict measured moisture saturation profiles for imbibition in Berea sandstone and diatomite found in literature, and a fair agreement between simulated and measured outcomes is observed.
The neuroendocrine system of the gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) region gives rise to unique, heterogeneous malignancies that need a high index of suspicion to make a diagnosis owing to their indolent course.
The present study aimed to find the incidence and the differences in the morphologic and immunohistochemical profile of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEPNET) in a referral center of South India, JIPMER, Puducherry, India.
There were 55 gastroenteropancreatic region neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) assessed for demographic, clinical and radiological features. Gross morphological features, histopathological features, mitotic index, Ki67 proliferation index, and immunohistochemical positivity for synaptophysin, chromogranin-A, CD-56, NSE (Neuron Specific Enolase) and pan-cytokeratin (Pan-CK) were also assessed.
The majority were nonfunctional tumors presenting with abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleed, vomiting, jaundice, and loss of weight and appetite. The sites of involvement accordirelation between mitotic count and Ki67 index; a moderate correlation was noted between the tumor grade and Ki67 index.
The clinicopathologic profile of 55 GEPNET revealed a majority to be sporadic Grade 1 tumor. Tumors that showed lymph node and liver metastasis were less than 4 cm in size. MANECs were found in the duodenum and stomach.

Previous studies have shown that myocyte enhancer factor 2D (MEF2D) promotes the progression of HCC. Underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. In this study, we reported experimental results obtained using double luciferase. Our results showed that AMOTL2, a negative regulator of Hippo/YAP signaling, and the MEF2 cis-acting element in the upstream region of its promoter bind to MEF2D, inhibiting its transcriptional expression. Studies confirmed that MEF2D affected the protein expression level of AMOTL2 and the YAP signaling activation. It promoted the migration and proliferation of hepatoma cells. We found that luteolin, a natural flavonoid, has anti-tumor activity in HCC cells by affecting YAP signaling transduction. In conclusion, we demonstrated that AMOTL2/YAP signaling is associated with MEF2D-related HCC progression. Luteolin is a promising anti-HCC compound for regulating this signaling.Intravascular leiomyomatosis is a rare disease characterized by extension of benign smooth muscle proliferation into uterine and pelvic vessels. The involved vessels are almost always veins and rarely lymphatics. Intraarterial growth has not been described. Intravascular leiomyomatosis can show different morphologic features that are commonly described in leiomyomas. The differential diagnosis includes endometrial stromal sarcoma, lymphangioleiomyomatosis and leiomyosarcoma. Immunohistochemistry is helpful to establish a correct diagnosis. The condition is histologically benign; however, these lesions can spread by the venous system into the inferior vena cava, heart, and lungs. Treatment of this condition is surgical. The spread of intravenous leiomyomatosis exclusively by uterine lymphatics to the pelvic lymph nodes has not been previously reported.
The balance of pro- and anti-apoptotic proteins plays a critical role in the regulation of cell death, and a disruption of this delicate balance may eventuate in carcinogenesis through a net reduction in apoptosis. Numerous chemotherapeutic strategies directly or indirectly target apoptotic pathways. However, a thorough assessment of apoptosis-related proteins has not previously been performed in endometrial clear cell carcinoma (CCC). This study aims to determine the significance of 9 apoptosis-related proteins in the pathogenesis of CCC as compared to non-neoplastic endometrium (NNE), low- and high-grade endometrial endometrioid carcinomas (LG-EEC, HG-EEC), and endometrial serous carcinoma (ESC).
Expression of 6 anti-apoptotic proteins (Bcl-2, Bcl-xL, cFLIP
, MCL-1, survivin, NFκB/p65) and three pro-apoptotic proteins (Bax, caspase-3, caspase-8) was assessed by immunohistochemistry on 49 CCC, 37 LG-EEC, 12 HG-ECC, 16 ESC, and 25 NNE in a tissue microarray. Objective IHC scores were assigned by an automated image capture system.
