"Not a guideline but a guidance" is the motto of this document of guidance by the European Society of Cardiology, which is designed as an orientation aid to learning for physicians in the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. A total of 62 European cardiologists as authors and 29 further experts as reviewers have contributed to this 119-page document. The emphasis of the guidelines is on a cautious strategy in dealing with a pandemic, which is still characterized by many unknown factors. It is consciously limited to cardiovascular diseases. In the last update from 10 June 2020 many practical instructions for cardiovascular diagnostics and treatment under the conditions of a pandemic are given. These recommendations largely depend on the already well-known guidelines of the ESC. To recapitulate them might be helpful but much is redundant. The sections on the pathophysiology and pathomechanisms by which severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) could specifically affect the cardiovascular system, are informative but sometimes in need of supplementation. It is counterproductive to recommend that pathohistological and molecular investigations of tissues from affected and deceased patients should be avoided. This document of guidance is an ambitious attempt of a learning recommendation that needs some further improvement. It needs an early update if it intends to do justice to the ambitions. In this study, we investigated the relationship between sensory abnormalities evaluated by quantitative sensory testing (QST) and alexithymia, depression and anxiety in patients with neuropathic pain involving the upper limbs. We enrolled 62 patients (34 with carpal tunnel syndrome, 7 with brachial plexopathy, 3 with cervical painful radiculopathy, 5 with ulnar entrapment neuropathy at elbow and 13 with post-burn hypertrophic scars) and 48 healthy controls. All underwent nerve conduction studies (NCS), evaluation of cold, heat pain and vibration detection threshold (VDT) by QST and evaluation of alexithymia by Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), depression by Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II), anxiety by State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-Y), level of psychological distress by 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) and perceived social support by the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). The general linear model analysis revealed a significant relationship between TAS-20 overall and TAS-20 sub-score for difficulty identifying feelings and VDT z-scores in the left index with no interaction by year of education and sensory NCS results. Our results demonstrated the association between impairment of vibratory sensation of the left hand, reflecting cutaneous mechanoceptor dysfunction, and alexithymia, particularly the difficulty to identify feelings. The importance of delivering to patients with neuropathic pain personalized care that takes into account not only the neurophysiological aspects but also the aspects of mental functioning is discussed. We present the complete genome sequence of bovine alphaherpesvirus 2 (BoHV-2), a member of the family Herpesviridae, subfamily Alphaherpesvirinae, genus Simplexvirus. BoHV-2 is the causative agent of bovine ulcerative mammillitis (bovine herpes mammillitis) and pseudo-lumpy skin disease. The genomic architecture of BoHV-2 is typical of most simplexvirus genomes and congruent with that of human alphaherpesvirus 1 (HHV-1). The genome comprises a total of 131,245 base pairs and has an overall G+C content of 64.9 mol%. A total of 75 open reading frames are predicted. The gene repertoire of BoHV-2 is analogous to that of HHV-1, although the coding region of US12 is missing. A phylogenetic analysis supported BoHV-2 as a member of the genus Simplexvirus.
The final year of medical training in Germany is one of the least structured and standardized years of medical school. Medical students often complain about alack of guidance, supervision and feedback. They are mostly asked to perform delegable nonmedical tasks even though student experiences in this period critically determine future decisions for certain medical specialties. Consequently, right from the beginning many young professionals feel overburdened especially by the time pressure of everyday clinical practice. The planned amendment of the medical licensing regulations will make competence-based training even more important. This article therefore aims to examine the extent to which amentoring-based curriculum with workplace-based examinations during the final year of medical studies can make avaluable contribution to this.

After aneeds assessment (structured literature search, results evaluation and focus groups with both students and medical specialists), amentoring-based curriculum for final yeatisfaction but also promoted the quality of teaching in an effective and resource-saving way. Mentoring promotes learning success mainly through feedback and individual learning support and also supports the communicative and social skills of students and mentors alike.
A demand-driven, mentoring-based curriculum with integrated workplace-based assessments not only led to high overall student satisfaction but also promoted the quality of teaching in an effective and resource-saving way. In the debate about the correct usage of furnishing textiles in line with contemporary aesthetic and sanitary standards, women were held responsible for regulating these textile environments. While on the one hand this led to a supposedly natural and mechanical conflation of women and domestic space which has often been interpreted as restrictive and encapsulating, my aim is to identify a specific feminine agency that has its origin in the home but is not limited to it. By tracing the negotiations of this gendered textile expertise in different fields of knowledge and forms of representation, this article reevaluates the relationship between textiles, domesticity and femininity in the nineteenth century.
Rice, the most important crop in Asia, has been cultivated in Taiwan for more than 5000 years. selleck kinase inhibitor The landraces preserved by indigenous peoples and brought by immigrants from China hundreds of years ago exhibit large variation in morphology, implying that they comprise rich genetic resources. Breeding goals according to the preferences of farmers, consumers and government policies also alter gene pools and genetic diversity of improved varieties. To unveil how genetic diversity is affected by natural, farmers', and breeders' selections is crucial for germplasm conservation and crop improvement.

A diversity panel of 148 rice accessions, including 47 cultivars and 59 landraces from Taiwan and 42 accessions from other countries, were genotyped by using 75 molecular markers that revealed an average of 12.7 alleles per locus with mean polymorphism information content of 0.72. These accessions could be grouped into five subpopulations corresponding to wild rice, japonica landraces, indica landraces, indica cultivaeeding.

The genetic diversity of improved rice varieties has been substantially shaped by breeding goals, leading to differentiation between indica and japonica cultivars. Taiwanese landraces with different origins possess various and unique genetic backgrounds. link2 Taiwanese rice germplasm provides diverse genetic variation for association mapping to unveil useful genes and is a precious genetic reservoir for rice improvement.

Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses are hereditary lysosomal storage diseases, which lead to a progressive neurodegeneration of the brain and retina. Visual loss can be the initial symptom but can also occur later in the course of the disease.

The aim of this article is to provide ophthalmologists with an overview of the characteristic ocular alterations and the general disease course of the 13 currently known various forms of NCL.

The findings from predominantly clinical articles are reviewed and summarized.

Retinal degeneration plays acrucial role in this group of neurodegenerative diseases. In several forms visual decline is the initial clinical symptom in affected patients. Therefore, the ophthalmologist is the first medical expert consulted. An early diagnosis is crucial for the future personal and family planning but is also important regarding upcoming therapeutic strategies, which might be much more effective in patients with early stage disease. When the presence of retinal degeneration due to an NCL disease is suspected an immediate genetic diagnostic confirmation and collaboration with neuropediatricians is recommended.

As coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus2 evolved only recently, the persistency of the anti-viral antibody response remains to be determined.

We prospectively followed 29coronavirus disease 2019 cases, mean age 44 ± 13.2 years. Except for one participant with apre-existing diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, all other participants were previously healthy. We determined anti-viral binding antibodies at 2-10weeks, 3months, and 6months after disease onset as well as neutralizing antibodies at 6months. Two binding antibody assays were used, targeting the S1 subunit of the spike protein, and the receptor binding domain.

All participants fully recovered spontaneously except for one who had persisting hyposmia. Antibodies to the receptor binding domain persisted for 6months in all cases with aslight increase of titers, whereas antibodies to S1 dropped below the cut-off point in 2participants and showed aminimal decrease on average, mainly at month3 of follow-up in males; however, neutralizing antibodies were detected in all samples at 6 months of follow-up.

There is astable and persisting antibody response against acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus2 at 6months after infection. Neutralizing antibodies confirm virus specificity. As the number of coronavirus disease 2019 convalescent cases is increasing sharply, antibody testing should be implemented to identify immunized individuals. This information can be helpful in various settings of professional and private life.
