The incidence of acyclovir-induced hypersensitivity is rare. To our knowledge, there are four published case reports of oral acyclovir desensitization in adults. The patient reported acyclovir-induced angioedema while receiving treatment for non-complicated herpes zoster (shingles) infection.
After the acyclovir oral desensitization was conducted in an ICU setting with 11 patient-nurse ratio, the patient was successfully started on acyclovir therapy, 800mg by mouth twice daily for HSV prophylaxis with no further complications.

Surgical resection of the cartilaginous portions of the slipping rib often provides permanent pain relief, with the standard surgical approach being an open resection. A minimally invasive approach has not been reported previously; we report a novel laparoscopic technique for the treatment of SRS with satisfactory results. Materials and Methods A retrospective review of all consecutive pediatric patients who underwent laparoscopic cartilage resection during the year 2019 and open cartilage resection during the year 2018 was included. Following data were recorded age of patients, length of symptoms, length of procedure, length of cartilage resection, length of stay, resolution of pain, cosmetic acceptability, and postoperative complications. Results Four patients underwent laparoscopic slipping rib resection without complication during the year 2019. The mean age of symptom onset was 15 (range 14-16) years old, mean length of symptoms was 1.4 (0.5-2.0) years, and mean age at operation was 16.5 (16-18) years old. The average length of the procedure was 72.8 (55-102) minutes, and mean length of cartilage removed was 2.3 (1.9-3.0) cm. Three patients underwent standard open operation during the year 2018. All patients reported complete resolution of their chronic pain at their 6-month follow-up visit. Conclusions Laparoscopic technique can be used to treat SRS. All patients reported high satisfaction from resolution of chronic pain and the cosmetic appearance of their surgical scars.Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is highly common, adversely affecting the health of millions of women. New therapeutic targets and diagnostics are urgently needed for BV. Microbiome research offers new prospects in this context. We report here original findings on changes in the vaginal microbiome in pregnant and nonpregnant women with BV. Reproductive age women were recruited for this study after a clinical examination. The total sample (N = 33) included four study groups (1) healthy nonpregnant women (n = 9), (2) nonpregnant women with symptomatic BV (n = 11), (3) healthy pregnant women without BV (n = 6), and (4) pregnant women with symptomatic BV (N = 7). The vaginal microbiota in healthy women was less diverse, with dominance of a single genus, Lactobacillus. Six major phyla appeared upon taxonomic analysis of the bacterial sequences Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, Tenericutes, Bacteroidetes, and Fusobacteria. For instance, Firmicutes had a significantly higher abundance (98.3%) in the nonpregnant healthy group and 94.3% in pregnant healthy group, compared with nonpregnant (49.7%) and pregnant (67%) women with BV (p = 0.003). Moreover, women with BV had significant increases in representation of Actinobacteria, Fusobacteria, and Bacteroidetes (p = 0.0003, 0.004, and 0.01, respectively). Although the Lactobacillus genus was predominant in healthy women, Gardnerella, Atopobium, Sneathia, and Prevotella significantly increased in nonpregnant women with BV (p = 0.001, 0.014, 0.004, and 0.012, respectively). Dysbiosis of Lactobacillus in pregnant women with BV was accompanied by increased prevalence of the Streptococcus genus. In examining these variables, the Values and Behaviors of Intensive Care Nurses for End-of-Life Instrument and the Death Attitude Profile-Revised Scale were used. It was found that the students developed positive attitudes and behavior towards end-of-life care, and that they believed death to be a natural part of life and there is life after death. Correlation analysis and mediation models were conducted to examine the relationship between media involvement and death anxiety, and the possible mediating roles of empathy, sympathy, and affect. It was found that media involvement was positively associated with death anxiety. Empathy, sympathy, and negative affect played mediating roles between them. Objective To update the 2012 data and describe the current state of PC in Bolivia to aid in their ongoing efforts to expand PC services. In addition, to develop an instrument for assessment of national PC capacity that can be adapted for use in other countries. Design A cross-sectional study was conducted using personal and online structured interviews of PC team directors from all 19 PC teams around the country. Measurements A new survey was developed for this study based on the ALCP Atlas of PC and international PC guidelines. Results PC teams in Bolivia have slowly increased in number since 2008. There are currently 19 PC teams in Bolivia, highly concentrated in urban centers. Multidisciplinary teams typically include physicians, nurses, psychologists, and social workers. The majority of teams offer treatments for all 16 essential PC symptoms included in our study. Teams report significant barriers for their patients to obtain opioid pain medications.
