We identified 14 MTAs for blast resistance using both field and growth chamber screenings. A total of 11 accessions showing high levels of resistance in both conditions were discovered. The obtained information will provide useful bases for both resistance breeding and further characterization of the highlighted resistance loci.We report a small hawk-like diurnal bird from the early Oligocene (30-31 million years ago) of Poland. Aviraptor longicrus, n. gen. et sp. is of a size comparable with the smallest extant Accipitridae. The new species is characterized by very long legs, which, together with the small size, suggest an avivorous (bird-eating) feeding behavior. Overall, the new species resembles extant sparrowhawks (Accipiter spp.) in the length proportions of the major limb bones, even though some features indicate that it convergently acquired an Accipiter-like morphology. Most specialized avivores amongst extant accipitrids belong to the taxon Accipiter and predominantly predate small forest passerines; the smallest Accipiter species also hunts hummingbirds. Occurrence of a possibly avivorous raptor in the early Oligocene of Europe is particularly notable because A. longicrus coexisted with the earliest Northern Hemispheric passerines and modern-type hummingbirds. We therefore hypothesize that the diversification of these birds towards the early Oligocene may have triggered the evolution of small-sized avivorous raptors, and the new fossil may exemplify one of the earliest examples of avian predator/prey coevolution.The authors describe a follow-up to a case of a 19-year-old female with shunted aqueductal stenosis who presented with low-pressure hydrocephalus during a shunt malfunction. Shortly after management with CSF drainage at negative pressure, a magnetic resonance elastography scan was performed and revealed very low brain stiffness (high compliance). Here we present the case of the same patient seen 2 years later, now 21 years old, who again received a magnetic resonance elastography scan after receiving treatment for another shunt malfunction, this time with high intracranial pressure. This scan revealed recovery of brain stiffness to a near normal value for the patients' age. Intracranial infectious aneurysms are rarely reported in children; in particular, they are very rare in infants. They are mostly related to infective endocarditis and are usually located in the anterior cerebral vasculature. A ruptured intracranial infectious aneurysm is a catastrophic event associated with high morbidity and mortality rates.
An 8-month-old female infant presented with a prolonged fever without any organ-specific symptoms. Two weeks after admission, she had a high-grade fever with drowsiness; the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination indicated meningitis. Despite treatments with empiric antibiotic and antiviral agents, both her condition and the repeated CSF profiles worsened. The ineffective medications were promptly changed to susceptible antibiotic after the CSF culture showed Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Three days after the diagnosis of meningitis, the patient suddenly developed seizures and alteration of consciousness. The computerized tomography and angiography (CT and CTA) of the brain demonstrated a diffuse subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) with intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) and a lobulated fusiform aneurysm at the proximal basilar artery, suggestive of a ruptured basilar infectious aneurysm. Endovascular treatment was planned and a transarterial occlusion of the vertebrobasilar junction was performed in order to disrupt inflow of the aneurysm. After endovascular intervention, her clinical symptoms gradually improved and the patient was discharged after completing a 4-week course of antibiotics. At the 6-week follow-up, she was doing well without neurological deficit.

This interpretative qualitative study using thematic analysis aims to explore how parents and healthcare professionals anticipate the future of the child and family in pediatric palliative care. Single and repeated interviews were undertaken with 42 parents and 35 healthcare professionals of 24 children, receiving palliative care. Anticipating the future was seen in three forms goal-directed conversations, anticipated care, and guidance on the job. Goal-directed conversations were initiated by either parents or healthcare professionals to ensure others could align with their perspective regarding the future. Anticipated care meant healthcare professionals or parents organized practical care arrangements for future scenarios with or without informing each other. Guidance on the job was a form of short-term anticipation, whereby healthcare professionals guide parentsing regarding future care and treatment.
