Our data indicate that ADAM29 acts as an oncogene that increases tumour cells proliferation, invasion and migration partly by regulating the expression of Cyclin D1/PCNA/MMP9/Snail, suggesting that ADAM29 may become a prognosticator and therapeutic candidate for ccRCC.Canine distemper virus (CDV) has long been recognized as a cause of myocarditis; however, cases of myocarditis caused by naturally acquired CDV infection have been reported only rarely in dogs. We describe here our retrospective study of naturally acquired systemic CDV infection in 4 dogs, 4-7 wk old, that had myocarditis, with myocardial necrosis and fibrosis. One of the 4 dogs had intracytoplasmic eosinophilic inclusion bodies in cardiomyocytes. Other lesions included bronchointerstitial pneumonia (4 of 4), necrotizing hepatitis (2 of 4), splenic lymphoid necrosis (2 of 4), encephalitis (1 of 3; brain was not submitted in 1 case), and necrotizing gastroenteritis (1 of 4). The presence of CDV in the heart was confirmed by immunohistochemistry in all 4 dogs.Forty-five Horsfield's tortoises (Testudo horsfieldii; syn. Agrionemys horfieldii, Russian tortoise) belonging to different owners had decreased appetite and respiratory issues. Twenty-nine tortoises had epiphora, dyspnea, and white necrotic diphtheroid oral plaques (group G1). Ten of the remaining 16 tortoises had serious dehydration, appetite disorder, and depression (G2). The last 6 tortoises had only decreased appetite and moderate conjunctival discharge (G3). During the physical examination of all 45 tortoises, a cytologic sample and an oral swab for herpesvirus and Mycoplasma agassizii PCR testing were taken. In 20 of 29 specimens from G1, in 8 of 16 from G2, and 0 of 6 from G3, the cytologic exam revealed intranuclear acidophilic inclusion bodies, multinucleate cellular syncytia, and further abnormalities caused by herpesviral infection. Moreover, all 45 tested subjects were found to be positive for testudinid herpesvirus 1; 2 were positive for M. agassizii. This prospective study suggests that Horsfield's tortoises with such signs would benefit from this screening procedure, given that it was effective in a significant proportion of infected and symptomatic animals, and no negative effects were seen.Systemic mastocytosis, characterized by infiltration of multiple organs by neoplastic mast cells, is a well-described entity in human medicine with specific criteria for diagnosis, but is ill defined in veterinary literature. Hemostatic disorders are reported in humans affected by systemic mastocytosis but have not been well described in veterinary literature. A 5-y-old, spayed female Greyhound dog had a 1-mo history of progressive ventral cutaneous edema, hemorrhage, and pain. Cytology of an antemortem aspirate from the subcutis of the ventral abdomen was suggestive of mast cell neoplasia, but no discrete mass was present. The dog was euthanized and submitted for autopsy; marked subcutaneous edema and hemorrhage were confirmed. The ventral abdominal panniculus and dermis superficial to the panniculus carnosus were infiltrated by a dense sheet of neoplastic mast cells. The neoplastic cells contained toluidine blue-positive granules and formed aggregates within the bone marrow and several visceral organs, including the liver, spleen, heart, and kidney. Diffuse edema and hemorrhage is an unusual presentation of mast cell tumors in dogs. Antemortem tests, including complete blood count, coagulation profile, and viscoelastic coagulation testing, were suggestive of a primary hemostatic defect. We discuss here the diagnostic criteria used in humans, how these can be applied to veterinary patients, and the limitations of the current diagnostic framework.LGBTQ+ Asian Americans experience intersecting forms of oppression, and due to the limited research on this underserved population, it is important to understand their lived experiences and the factors that enhance and endanger their health. The absence of positive representations of LGBTQ+ Asian Americans in the media upholds stereotypes and feelings of invisibility that have harmful effects. Studying LGBTQ+ Asian Americans using Kpop media offers a new and timely way to understand these identities and outcomes of well-being. Bobcat339 This study qualitatively explored how 16 college-aged LGBTQ+ Asian Americans identify with Kpop and reconstruct representations to protect themselves from negative influences surrounding their identities. Using grounded theory methodology, this study found that Kpop functions as a source of representation and social connection that supports LGBTQ+ Asian Americans. Findings also illustrate how LGBTQ+ Asian Americans engage in Kpop fan labor to create narratives that can mitigate the harmful effects of marginalization.Objectives The study was aimed to evaluate the efficacy of three commonly consumed Lactuca sativa (LS) Linn. varieties viz., Grand rapid, Lollo rosso and Iceberg (Asteraceae) against 3-NP induced HD like symptoms in rats. Methods Ethanol extracts of leaves of three LS varieties were prepared, and standardized on the basis of quercetin content using HPLC. These extracts (100 and 200 mg kg, p.o. for 20 days) were evaluated for their neuroprotective effect against 3-NP (10 mg/kg, i.p. for 14 days) induced neurotoxicity in male Wistar rats. The extract that exhibited maximum activity was successively fractionated using hexane, ethyl acetate, n-butanol and aqueous in increasing order of polarity. These fractions were also evaluated (dose equivalent to the dose of the extract of LS variety exhibiting maximum activity) for their neuroprotective effect. The protective effect of extracts and fractions was evaluated using different behavioral (rota rod, actophotometer, beam walk and Morris water maze) and biochemical (malondialdehyde, nitrite, superoxide dismutase, catalase and reduced glutathione) parameters. Results 3-NP elicit marked deterioration in motor coordination, locomotor activity and memory in comparison to control group. Standardized ethanol extract of grand rapid (200 mg/kg) exhibited maximum activity amongst the three tested varieties. Therefore, its fractions were also evaluated, and n-butanol fraction (40 mg/kg) exhibited maximum attenuation of 3-NP induced HD like symptoms which was evident from improved behavioral and biochemical parameters. Discussion The results exhibit that LS (Grand rapid variety) prophylaxis mitigated 3-NP induced neurotoxicity and HD like symptoms in rats due to its potent antioxidant potential.Tissue engineers often use biomaterials to provide structural support along with mechanical and chemical signals to modulate the wound healing process. Biomaterials that are implanted into the body interact with a heterogeneous and dynamic inflammatory environment that is present at the site of injury. Whether synthetically derived, naturally derived, or a combination of both, it is important to assess biomaterials for their ability to modulate inflammation to understand their potential clinical use. One important, but underexplored cell in the context of biomaterials is the mast cell (MC). MCs are granulocytic leukocytes that engage in a variety of events in both the innate and adaptive immune systems. Although highly recognized for their roles in allergic reactions, MCs play an important role in wound healing by recognizing antigens through pattern recognition receptors and the high-affinity immunoglobulin E receptor (FceRI) and releasing granules that affect cell recruitment, fibrosis, extracellular matrixh literature from the past decade focusing on MC interactions with materials used for tissue repair and regeneration. Studying MC-biomaterial interactions will help (i) further understand the process of inflammation and (ii) design biomaterials and tissue-engineered constructs for optimal repair and regeneration.Postpartum depression and anxiety are common among women. Previous research has found perfectionism and the lack of social support to be associated with psychological distress. This study examined (1) social support as a protective factor against postpartum depressive and anxiety symptoms and perfectionism as a risk factor; (2) associations between different types of social support and postpartum depressive and anxiety symptoms; and (3) social support as a moderator between the relationship of perfectionism and postpartum depressive and anxiety symptoms. A total of 596 postpartum participants were included. Participants completed measures on postpartum depression, anxiety, social support, and perfectionism. Multivariate regressions revealed perfectionism was not significantly associated with depressive symptoms but predicted anxiety symptoms. Social support was a significant protective factor against depressive and anxiety symptoms. All support subscales were significantly associated with depressive and anxiety symptoms, with support from friends having the largest effect size (partial η2 = .061). High levels of support significantly moderated the relationship between perfectionism and depressive symptoms, β = .003, 95% CI [.0006, .005], t (592) = 2.53, p = .012, and average and high levels of support significantly moderated the relationship between perfectionism and anxiety symptoms, β = .0023, 95% CI [.0002, .004], t (592) = 2.13, p = .03. These results emphasize the importance of social support for postpartum women's mental health, especially for "Superwomen" with perfectionistic tendencies. Implications for healthcare and policies are discussed.This article addresses the issue and practice of surrogacy in France. Surrogacy contracts are void under French law, and intermediaries, medical personnel, and in some cases, parents can be penalized if they partake in this method of ART. Consequently, the vast majority of French children born of surrogacy result from cross-border practices that their parents undertake. Divided into three parts, this chapter will first explore the French legal framework of surrogacy, then explore the cross-border practices at play and the difficulties they raise for ensuing parents and children once back on French soil, and finally examines diverse social movements and discourse either for or against the legalization of surrogacy in France. It concludes by arguing that before establishing a regulatory framework for surrogacy, the most pressing issue is to protect children born of French parents abroad via surrogacy once the family returns to the country.
Mindfulness-Oriented Recovery Enhancement (MORE) is a mind-body therapy that unites complementary aspects of mindfulness training, third-wave cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and principles from positive psychology into an integrative treatment for addiction and its comorbidities. As interest in MORE has grown among researchers and clinicians, there is an increasing need to provide quality assurance measures to ensure treatment integrity during implementation of MORE. Here, we describe the development and validation of the Mindfulness-Oriented Recovery Enhancement Fidelity Measure (MORE-FM).

We developed a 17-item scale assessing therapist competence and adherence to the MORE treatment manual, which was then used for fidelity monitoring of 40 MORE treatment sessions across two Stage 2 and two Stage 1 RCT for addictive behaviors (e.g., opioid misuse, obesity) involving a total N =295.
