Treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity (DH) has always been challenging with a wide variety of therapeutic options, in-office and home care. The study objective was to compare the clinical efficacy of diode laser [DL] with four commercially available desensitizing agents (two toothpastes and two mouthwashes) in the treatment of DH.
This study involved 75 participants (25-45 years) who were categorized as Group 1 (n=15) treated with DL, and Groups 2, 3,4 and 5 (n=15 in each) who were prescribed 3% potassium nitrate mouth rinse, a herbal mouth rinse, potassium nitrate tooth paste and a herbal tooth paste, respectively. DH was assessed by air blast stimulation using air blast syringe, and evaluation of DH was done based on the patient's subjective response using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) at baseline, 1 week and 1 month.
DL and the desensitizing agents showed significant reduction in DH at 1 month when compared with baseline, except potassium nitrate mouth wash. However, DL showed more percentage reduction in DH when compared with potassium nitrate tooth paste, herbal mouth wash and paste.
The study implies that even though all five groups showed improvement in terms of DH reduction, DL showed the best results among all the groups.

Diode laser (DL) can be used in endodontics both for its bactericidal effect inside the root canal system (RCS) and for photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) to accelerate the repair of periradicular bone tissue.
This work presents two cases of pulp necrosis/asymptomatic apical periodontitis (AAP) that were treated with 940-nm DL, administered both to disinfect the root canal and to apply PBMT to the periradicular tissues. The cases were analysed by Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT).
DL has become widely accepted due to its high antimicrobial effectiveness and its ability to accelerate the repair of large apical lesions by biostimulation. Nevertheless, differences of opinion persist within the scientific community due to the lack of standardized endodontic protocols.
The application of 940-nm DL, both for disinfection of the RCS and for PBMT, is an effective treatment in non-vital teeth with large periapical lesions. In both cases reported, bone neoformation were found at the 6-month check-up.

To evaluate the effect of an orthodontic resin modified with various concentrations of silver-nanoparticles (AgNPs) on enamel color.
Twenty lower premolars were collected and divided into four groups (n = 5) according to the concentration of AgNPs (0.05%, 0.1%, 0.5%, and 1% wt/wt). Additionally, a group bonded with a conventional resin was used as control (n=5). Previous to the bracket bonding, enamel color was measuring with a spectrophotometer. Specimens were stored for 6 months in deionized water. Brackets were debonded and color changes of enamel were calculated with the CIEDE 2000 formula (∆E00). One-way ANOVA and Tukey test were used to assess the color change (α = .05).
The control group showed the lowest ∆E00 values, and no significant difference was observed when compared to the group with 0.05% of AgNPs (
> .05). The highest color change was observed in the group with 1% of AgNPs (∆E00 = 8.04±1.48), however no significant difference was observed between groups with 0.1% and 0.5% AgNPs.
The incorporation of AgNPs into orthodontic resin result in tooth color alteration. Lower concentrations of AgNPs should be considered to minimize negative changes in enamel color.

Pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) reflects pericoronary inflammation and is associated with coronary artery disease. We aimed to identify the association between local PCTA thickness using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and prognosis of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), and to investigate the incremental prognostic value of PCAT thickness in STEMI after reperfusion.
A total of 245 patients with STEMI (mean age, 55.61 ± 10.52 years) who underwent CMR imaging within 1 week of percutaneous coronary intervention therapy and 35 matched controls (mean age, 53.89 ± 9.45 years) were enrolled. PCAT thickness indexed to body surface area at five locations, ventricular volume and function, infarct-related parameters, and global strain indices were evaluated using CMR. Associations between PCAT thickness index and 1-year major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) after STEMI were calculated. The prognostic value of the standard model based on features of clinical and CMR and updated model iMACE predictions for STEMI.
This study demonstrated SIVGi as an independent predictor conferred incremental value over standard model based on clinical and CMR factors in 1-year MACE predictions for STEMI.
The cumulative numbers of confirmed cases, despite providing few details regarding the dynamics, are widely used to model the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this study was to determine the dynamics of COVID-19 in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries by using the number of daily new cases rather than the cumulative number of new cases.
Data on daily new cases of COVID-19 in the GCC countries from February 2020 to September 2021 were obtained from the Worldometer website. In MATLAB, the Savitzky-Golay filter was used to obtain smoothed curves of the daily profiles of the pandemic, and power spectrum analysis was performed to identify the dominant frequencies.
The smoothed curves indicated that the GCC countries have experienced two major waves of the pandemic with different peaks and durations. During the first wave, the exponential growth rates ranged from 9 cases/day in Bahrain to 53 cases/day in KSA, whereas the decline rates varied from 6 cases/day in Kuwait to 72 cases/day in KSA.
Despite the similarities in socio-economic and environmental conditions among GCC countries, the results indicated that the dynamics of COVID-19 are unique for each GCC country.

Evidence indicates that dysregulation of m6A modification and associated proteins contributes to glioblastoma (GBM) progression. However, the function of fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO), an m6A demethylase, has not been systematically and comprehensively explored in GBM. Here, we found that decreased FTO expression in clinical specimens correlated with higher glioma grades and poorer clinical outcomes. Functionally, FTO inhibited growth and invasion in GBM cells in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, FTO regulated the m6A modification of primary microRNA-10a (pri-miR-10a), which could be recognized by reader HNRNPA2B1, recruiting the microRNA microprocessor complex protein DGCR8 and mediating pri-miR-10a processing. Furthermore, the transcriptional activity of FTO was inhibited by the transcription factor SPI1, which could be specifically disrupted by the SPI1 inhibitor DB2313. Treatment with this inhibitor restored endogenous FTO expression and decreased GBM tumor burden, suggesting that FTO may serve as a novel prognostic indicator and therapeutic molecular target of GBM.Drug discovery from plants usually focuses on small molecules rather than such biological macromolecules as RNAs. Although plant transfer RNA (tRNA)-derived fragment (tRF) has been associated with the developmental and defense mechanisms in plants, its regulatory role in mammals remains unclear. By employing a novel reverse small interfering RNA (siRNA) screening strategy, we show that a tRF mimic (antisense derived from the 5' end of tRNAHis(GUG) of Chinese yew) exhibits comparable anti-cancer activity with that of taxol on ovarian cancer A2780 cells, with a 16-fold lower dosage than that of taxol. A dual-luciferase reporter assay revealed that tRF-T11 directly targets the 3' UTR of oncogene TRPA1 mRNA. Furthermore, an Argonaute-RNA immunoprecipitation (AGO-RIP) assay demonstrated that tRF-T11 can interact with AGO2 to suppress TRPA1 via an RNAi pathway. This study uncovers a new role of plant-derived tRFs in regulating endogenous genes. This holds great promise for exploiting novel RNA drugs derived from nature and sheds light on the discovery of unknown molecular targets of therapeutics.Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an inflammation-involved disorder and features the disruption of CD4+ T lymphocytes. Herein, we describe that microRNA-10b-5p (miR-10b) promotes RA progression by disrupting the balance between subsets of CD4+ T cells. MiR-10b-deficient mice protected against collagen antibody-induced arthritis (CAIA) model. RNA sequencing results indicated that disordered genes in miR-10b-/- CAIA model are closely associated with CD4+ T cells differentiation. Moreover, miR-10b mimics promoted Th1/Th17 and suppressed Th2/Treg cells differentiation, whereas miR-10b inhibitor induced contrary effects. In addition, GATA3 and PTEN was confirmed as two targets of miR-10b, and GATA3 siRNA could increase Th1 and reduce Th2 cells meanwhile PTEN siRNA could increase Th17 and decrease Treg cells. Furthermore, miR-10b inhibitor significantly ameliorated collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) development by attenuating the dysfunctional CD4+ T cell subpopulations. The present findings suggest that miR-10b could disrupt the balance of CD4+ T subsets, while suppressed miR-10b could attenuate the severity of experimental arthritis, which provided us a novel mechanistic and therapeutic insight into the RA.Exosomes are extracellular vesicles released by various cell types that perform various biological functions, mainly mediating communication between different cells, especially those active in cancer. Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), of which there are many types, were recently identified as enriched and stable in the exocrine region and play various roles in the occurrence and progression of cancer. Abnormal angiogenesis has been confirmed to be related to human cancer. click here An increasing number of studies have shown that exosome-derived ncRNAs play an important role in tumor angiogenesis. In this review, we briefly outline the characteristics of exosomes, ncRNAs, and tumor angiogenesis. Then, the mechanism of the impact of exosome-derived ncRNAs on tumor angiogenesis is analyzed from various angles. In addition, we focus on the regulatory role of exosome-derived ncRNAs in angiogenesis in different types of cancer. Furthermore, we emphasize the potential role of exosome-derived ncRNAs as biomarkers in cancer diagnosis and prognosis and therapeutic targets in the treatment of tumors.
