To determine the characteristics and appearance rate of epiretinal proliferation (ERP) on SD-OCT after surgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) repair.

One hundred eight eyes of 108 patients who underwent one or more surgeries for RRD were enrolled. click here The eyes with other maculopathies that were directly related to RRD were excluded. Image acquisition was performed with SD-OCT (Heidelberg Engineering, Germany). Clinical charts were reviewed to assess clinical and surgical findings. Statistical analyses were performed using XLSTAT (Assinsoft, Paris, France).

ERP was found in 9.3% eyes (n = 10). The mean initial visual acuity (logMAR) was 1.34 ± 0.82 in the ERP group compared to 0.49 ± 0.70 in the non-ERP group. PVR was present in 70.0% and chronic macular edema was found in 80.0% of eyes which developed ERP. The mean number of vitreoretinal surgeries in eyes with ERP was 3.3 ± 1.19 and only 1.44 ± 1.02 in eyes without. Silicone oil was used in 60.0% of eyes which developed ERP compared to 13.9% in the non-ERP group.

ERP is a late-onset postoperative finding in eyes with RRD and can occur in absence of macular holes. Overall, ERP is more frequent in eyes with complicated courses of RRD including multiple operations, PVR, usage of silicone oil, and chronic macular edema.

In the past, increased latencies of the blue-on-yellow pattern visually evoked potentials (BY-VEP), which predominantly originate in the koniocellular pathway, have proven to be a sensitive biomarker for early glaucoma. However, a complex experimental setup based on an optical bench was necessary to obtain these measurements because computer screens lack sufficient temporal, spatial, spectral, and luminance resolution. Here, we evaluated the diagnostic value of a novel setup based on a commercially available video projector.

BY-VEPs were recorded in 126 participants (42 healthy control participants, 12 patients with ocular hypertension, 17 with "preperimetric" glaucoma, and 55 with perimetric glaucoma). Stimuli were created with a video projector (DLP technology) by rear projection of a blue checkerboard pattern (460nm) for 200ms (onset) superimposed on a bright yellow background (574nm), followed by an offset interval where only the background was active. Thus, predominantly S-cones were stimulated while BY-VEPs based on such a projector had a high diagnostic value for detection of early glaucoma. Microbial enzymes, including carbonic anhydrase, NAD-dependent formate dehydrogenase, ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase, and methane monooxygenase, have been exploited to convert atmospheric gases into industrial products. Carbonic anhydrases are Zn2+-dependent metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible conversion of CO2 into bicarbonate. They are widespread in bacteria, algae, plants, and higher organisms. In higher organisms, they regulate the physiological pH and contribute to CO2 transport in the blood. In plants, algae, and photosynthetic bacteria carbonic anhydrases are involved in photosynthesis. Converting CO2 into bicarbonate by carbonic anhydrases can solidify gaseous CO2, thereby reducing global warming due to the burning of fossil fuels. This review discusses the three-dimensional structures of carbonic anhydrases, their physiological role in marine life, their catalytic mechanism, the types of inhibitors, and their medicine and industry applications.
Al responsive proteins are associated with starch, sucrose, and other carbohydrate metabolic pathways. Sucrose synthase is a candidate to Al tolerance. Al responses are regulated at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. Aluminum toxicity is one of the important abiotic stresses that affects worldwide crop production. The soluble form of aluminum (Al
) inhibits root growth by altering water and nutrient uptake, a process that also reduces plant growth and development. Under long-term Al
exposure, plants can activate several tolerance mechanisms. To date, no reports of large-scale proteomic data concerning maize responses to this ion have been published. To investigate the post-transcriptional regulation in response to Al toxicity, we performed label-free quantitative proteomics for comparative analysis of two Al-contrasting popcorn inbred lines and an Al-tolerant commercial hybrid during 72h under Al-stress conditions. A total of 489 differentially accumulated proteins (DAPs) were identified inth Al tolerant genotypes. Bioinformatics analysis indicated that starch, sucrose, and other components of carbohydrate metabolism and glycolysis/gluconeogenesis are the biochemical processes regulated in response to Al toxicity. Sucrose synthase accumulation and an increase in sucrose content and starch degradation suggest that these components may enhance popcorn tolerance to Al stress. The accumulation of citrate synthase suggests a key role for this enzyme in the detoxification process in the Al-tolerant inbred line. The integration of transcriptomic and proteomic data indicates that the Al tolerance response presents a complex regulatory network into the transcription and translation dynamics of popcorn root development.Deposition of atmospheric pollution as particulate matter (PM) has become a serious issue in many urban areas. This study measured and estimated the amount of atmospheric PM deposition onto oriental plane (Platanus orientalis L.) trees located in Tehran Megapolis, Iran. PM deposited on the leaves of urban trees during spring and summer was estimated using leaf wash measurements. In addition to direct measurements, the dry deposition velocity and the yearly whole-tree PM deposition were estimated using both field measurements and a theoretical model of deposition flux. We estimated air quality improvement as a result of the trees at respiratory height (1.5 m), tree height (10 m), and boundary layer height (1719 m). Foliar PM deposition during spring and summer was estimated to average 0.05 g/leaf and 41.39 g/tree using direct measurements. The annual PM deposited on the leaves, trunk, and branches of an average urban tree was calculated to be 78.60 g/tree. Trees were estimated to improve air quality at 1.5 m, 10 m, and 1719 m from ground level by 25.8%, 5.8%, and 0.1%, respectively. Hence, oriental plane trees substantially reduce PM at respiratory height.
A pollen specific homolog to a xyloglucan galactosyltransferase regulates cell wall stability and therefore pollen tube growth in Arabidopsis. In angiosperms, pollen tubes grow through the transmitting tract to deliver the sperm cells to the ovule for fertilization. Fast growing pollen tubes coordinate the synthesis, secretion and assembly of cell wall components to maintain the mechanical properties of the cell wall. Xyloglucan, the major hemicellulosic polysaccharide in the primary cell wall, tethers cellulose to form the complexed cell wall network through its side chain modifications. How the side chain modifications of the xyloglucan regulate the pollen tube cell wall strength and growth remains elusive. Here we found that AtGT11, a MUR3 xyloglucan galactosyltransferase homolog highly expressed in pollen regulated the cell wall stability of pollen tubes. Genetic analysis of the gt11 and the xylosyltransferase 1/2 mutant indicated that the xylosylation of XyG side chains played dominant role while galacthat the xylosylation of XyG side chains played dominant role while galactosylation of the XyG side chains finely modified the cell wall mechanics.Doxorubicin leads to dose-dependent cardiotoxicity in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) survivors. The first aim was to propose a contour-based estimation of T1 and T2 relaxation times based on the myocardial area, while our second aim was to evaluate native T1, post-gadolinium T1 and T2 relaxation time sensitivity to detect myocardial changes. A total of 84 childhood ALL survivors were stratified in regard to their prognostic risk groups standard risk (SR), n = 20), high-risk with and without dexrazoxane (HR + DEX, n = 39 and HR, n = 25). Survivors' mean age was of 22.0 ± 6.9 years, with a mean age at cancer diagnosis of 8.0 ± 5.2 years. CMR acquisitions were performed on a 3 T MRI system and included an ECG-gated 3(3)3(3)5 MOLLI sequence for T1 mapping and an ECG-gated T2-prepared TrueFISP sequence for T2 mapping. Myocardial contours were semi-automatically segmented using an interactive implementation of cubic Bezier curves. We found excellent repeatability between operators for native T1 (ICC = 0.91), and good repeatability between operators for post-gadolinium T1 (ICC = 0.84) and T2 (ICC = 0.79). Bland and Altman tests demonstrated a strong agreement between our contour-based method and images analyzed using the CVI42 software on the measure of native T1, post-gadolinium T1, and T2. No significant differences between survivors' prognostic risk groups in native T1 were reported, while we observed significant differences between survivors' prognostic risk groups in post-gadolinium T1 and T2. Significant differences were observed between male and female survivors. Differences between groups were also observed in partition coefficients, but no significant differences were observed between male and female survivors. The use of CMR parameters with native T1, post-gadolinium T1, and T2 allowed to show that survivors at a high-risk prognostic were more exposed to doxorubicin-related cardiotoxicity than those who were at a standard risk prognostic or who received dexrazoxane treatments.
The gene underlying the melon fruit shape QTL fsqs8.1 is a member of the Ovate Family Proteins. Variation in fruit morphology is caused by changes in gene expression likely due to a cryptic structural variation in this locus. Melon cultivars have a wide range of fruit morphologies. Quantitative trait loci (QTL) have been identified underlying such diversity. This research focuses on the fruit shape QTL fsqs8.1, previously detected in a cross between the accession PI 124112(CALC, producing elongated fruit) and the cultivar 'Piel de Sapo' (PS, producing oval fruit). The CALC fsqs8.1 allele induced round fruit shape, being responsible for the transgressive segregation for this trait observed in that population. In fact, the introgression line CALC8-1, carrying the fsqs8.1 locus from CALC into the PS genetic background, produced perfect round fruit. Following a map-based cloning approach, we found that the gene underlying fsqs8.1 is a member of the Ovate Family Proteins (OFP), CmOFP13, likely a homologue of AtOFP1 and SlOFP20 from Arabidopsis thaliana and tomato, respectively.
