However, the proportions (2.7-5.4%) of DNA-fragmented nuclei in blastocysts derived from oocytes matured with melatonin were significantly decreased (p less then 0.05) compared to those (8.9%) from oocytes matured without melatonin, irrespective of the concentration of melatonin. Our results suggest that supplementation of the culture media with melatonin (25 ng/ml) during IVM and development has beneficial effects on the developmental competence and quality of porcine embryos. With the development of several novel heating sources, scientists can now heat a small sample isochorically above 10,000 K. Although matter at such an extreme state, known as warm dense matter, is commonly found in astrophysics (e.g., in planetary cores) as well as in high energy density physics experiments, its properties are not well understood and are difficult to predict theoretically. This is because the approximations made to describe condensed matter or high-temperature plasmas are invalid in this intermediate regime. A sufficiently large warm dense matter sample that is uniformly heated would be ideal for these studies, but has been unavailable to date. Here we have used a beam of quasi-monoenergetic aluminum ions to heat gold and diamond foils uniformly and isochorically. For the first time, we visualized directly the expanding warm dense gold and diamond with an optical streak camera. Furthermore, we present a new technique to determine the initial temperature of these heated samples from the measured expansion speeds of gold and diamond into vacuum. We anticipate the uniformly heated solid density target will allow for direct quantitative measurements of equation-of-state, conductivity, opacity, and stopping power of warm dense matter, benefiting plasma physics, astrophysics, and nuclear physics. It is claimed that the distribution of Culicoides-borne viruses is highly influenced by climate. Equine encephalosis virus (EEV) is a Culicoides-borne orbivirus which affects horses and was recently found to be endemic in Israel. To test whether climate is a crucial factor in the geographical distribution of EEV, we collected blood samples from horses in Israel during the years 2002, 2007 and 2010 and tested them for the abundance of antibodies to EEV. Samples were also collected in 2011 from horses that were seronegative to the virus in 2010, to determine the rate of infection with EEV. It was found that seroprevalence fluctuated between the years and that in each year it was highest in a different climatic region. Interestingly, analysis of infection rate at the different farms showed a negative association with seroprevalence at prior observations. In addition, analysis of precipitation preceding the outbreak of EEV which occurred during 2008 revealed that an extremely dry period existed several months prior to the febrile outbreak with the average precipitation of spring 2008 being significantly lower than the average spring precipitation of the years 1997-2009. It is therefore conjectured that exposure to EEV is not climate specific. Rather, it is highly influenced by herd immunity and weather fluctuations which might change annually. This finding may have important implications for the prediction of the abundance of Culicoides-borne viruses in endemic regions. We tested a mediation model of weight bias that considers person attributes and contact experiences with overweight individuals. In Study 1, we administered a survey to assess Openness, Agreeableness, Attributional Complexity, contact experiences with overweight individuals, and weight bias. Mediation analyses found that Agreeableness predicted less weight bias through contact experiences. In Study 2, we asked participants to interact with a peer whose weight and attributions regarding the weight were experimentally manipulated. We then measured acceptance of the peer. Agreeableness was found to indirectly predict more acceptance of an overweight peer through Empathy and contact experiences. These results show that contact theory is applicable to the domain of weight bias, and support person-situation approaches to prejudice.
The aim of this conference paper was to examine the evidence base for primary and secondary prevention of dental caries, erosions and dentin hypersensitivity through professional and self-care measures.
A mapping of systematic reviews (SR) of literature was carried out in PubMed and the Cochrane library through April 2014 using established MeSH-terms and disease-related search words in various combinations. The search was restricted to SR's published in English or Scandinavian and all age groups were considered. The reference lists of the selected papers were hand-searched for additional review articles of potential interest. Meta-analyses, guidelines and treatment recommendations were considered only when SR's were lacking. In the event of updates or multiple systematic reviews covering the same topic, only the most recent article was included. No quality assessment of the systematic reviews was carried out. The quality of evidence was rated in four levels according to the GRADE scale.
In total, 39 SR f good quality. This article has been withdrawn at the request of the author(s) and editor. The Publisher apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. Besides the simple architecture of these ubiquitous and dynamic organelles, their biogenesis is surprisingly complex and involves specialized proteins, termed peroxins, which mediate targeting and insertion of peroxisomal membrane proteins (PMPs) into the peroxisomal bilayer, and the import of soluble proteins into the protein-dense matrix of the organelle. The long-standing paradigm that all peroxisomal proteins are imported directly into preexisting peroxisomes has been challenged by the detection of PMPs inside the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). New models propose that the ER originates peroxisomal biogenesis by mediating PMP trafficking to the peroxisomes via budding vesicles. However, the relative contribution of this ER-derived pathway to the total peroxisome population in vivo, and the detailed mechanisms of ER entry and exit of PMPs are controversially discussed. This review aims to summarize present knowledge about how PMPs are targeted to the ER, instead of being inserted directly into preexisting peroxisomes. Moreover, molecular mechanisms that facilitate bilayer insertion of PMPs among different species are discussed.
Pediatric patients who undergo liver transplantation are at higher risk of developing vascular complications when compared to adult liver transplant recipients. The consequences of hepatic artery thrombosis (HAT) or portal vein thrombosis (PVT) can cause significant morbidity and mortality. We examined pediatric liver transplant recipients who developed vascular thrombosis and the presence of thrombophilia.
We examined outcome in all pediatric patients who underwent liver transplantation. Recipient, donor demographic data, and outcome data were examined. Categorical differences were compared using the unpaired Student t-test and nominal variables using either the chi-square or the Fischer exact test. A P value of <0.05 was considered significant.
Forty-six pediatric patients underwent liver transplantation. Twenty-one recipients were found to have thrombophilia, including 5 with HAT and 2 with PVT. When comparing recipients with or without any vascular thrombosis, those with thrombophilia had a signiterial reconstruction with a conduit to decrease the risk of vascular thrombosis.Organometallic trihalide perovskites are promising materials for photovoltaic applications, which have demonstrated a rapid rise in photovoltaic performance in a short period of time. We report a facile one-step method to fabricate planar heterojunction perovskite solar cells by chemical vapor deposition (CVD), with a solar power conversion efficiency of up to 11.1%. We performed a systematic optimization of CVD parameters such as temperature and growth time to obtain high quality films of CH3NH3PbI3 and CH3NH3PbI(3-x)Clx perovskite. Scanning electron microscopy and time resolved photoluminescence data showed that the perovskite films have a large grain size of more than 1 micrometer, and carrier life-times of 10 ns and 120 ns for CH3NH3PbI3 and CH3NH3PbI(3-x)Clx, respectively. This is the first demonstration of a highly efficient perovskite solar cell using one step CVD and there is likely room for significant improvement of device efficiency.
Invasive micropapillary carcinoma (IMPC) of the breast and triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) are both aggressive subtypes, but little information is available on their comparison.
Retrospective analysis of 95 IMPC and 200 TNBC-IDC (invasive ductal carcinoma) was conducted to compare the clinicopathologic characteristics and survivals.
For IMPC, pN was the independent prognostic factor of local-regional recurrence free survival (LRRFS) (P = 0.045) and metastasis free survival (MFS) (P = 0.048), but not of overall survival (OS) (P = 0.165). For TNBC, pT and lymphovascular invasion (LVI) were both independent prognostic factors of MFS (pT P = 0.006, LVI P = 0.010) and OS (pT P = 0.006, LVI P = 0.001), but not for LRRFS (pT P = 0.060, LVI P = 0.503). IMPC exhibited more aggressive features than TNBC, including larger tumor size, a greater proportion of nodal involvement, and an increased incidence of LVI. After a median follow-up duration of 61 months, 5y-LRRFS rate was lower in IMPC than in TNBC, in entire cohort (71.4 ± 4.8% vs. 89.8 ± 2.2%, P < 0.001) and in node positive cases (64.2 ± 5.9% vs. 81.7 ± 4.4%, P = 0.048). A tendency of lower 5y-MFS rate was observed in TNBC compared with in IMPC, in node positive cases (63.8 ± 5.5% vs. 74.8 ± 5.5%, P = 0.053) and in node negative cases (80.1 ± 3.6% vs. 96.2 ± 3.8%, P = 0.052), but it did not reach significance. 5y-OS was similar between IMPC and TNBC (81.9 ± 4.7% vs. 79.8 ± 3.1%, P = 0.475).
IMPC is featured with high rate of lymph node involvement which is strongly associated with high rate of LRR. TNBC is featured with high rate of early distant metastasis without increase of nodal metastases. The survival is still relatively poor even in node negative cases.

Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) for the treatment of neuroendocrine tumours (NET) has been explored for almost two decades, but there are still few trials that have exclusively investigated well-differentiated and moderately differentiated NET arising from the respiratory tree. Thus, the aim of this study was to explore the outcome in patients affected by bronchopulmonary carcinoid (BPC) following PRRT.
We retrospectively analysed 114 patients with advanced stage BPC consecutively treated with PRRT at the European Institute of Oncology, Milan, from 1997 to 2012 and followed until October 2014. The objective responses, overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were rated, and three different PRRT protocols ((90)Y-DOTATOC vs. (177)Lu-DOTATATE vs. (90)Y-DOTATOC + (177)Lu-DOTATATE) were compared with regard to their efficacy and tolerability.
The median OS (evaluated in 94 of the 114 patients) was 58.8 months. The median PFS was 28.0 months. The (177)Lu-DOTATATE protocol resulted in the highest 5-year OS (61.
