Acute toxicity studies showed that LD50 was greater than 5000 mg/kg. The study showed that the crude extract of E. hirta at 200 mg/kg when administered alone had 54% inhibition of ulceration while when administered together with honey increased to 94% inhibition of ulceration, but honey alone had 89.47% inhibition of ulceration. This implied that E. hirta when combined with honey had a synergistic effect and enhanced the inhibition of ulceration, and this could be seen by the protection of the gastric mucosa. learn more The study of the phytomedicine E. hirta combined with honey revealed that the phytomedicine has antiulcer activities against 0.6 M HCl-induced gastric ulcer in rats. This therefore validates usage and claim by the Igbo people of the southeastern part of Nigeria that the phytomedicine of E. hirta combined with honey has good antiulcer potential.
Neuregulin 1 (NRG 1) is a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family and is believed to play an important role in neuroplasticity. However, the relationship between NRG 1 and vascular dementia (VaD) is poorly understood. The purpose of this study is to explore the correlation between neuregulin 1 and VaD.
. From October 2018 to September 2020, 93 VaD patients and 79 control populations who attended Liaocheng People's Hospital were included in the study. Baseline characteristics including age, gender, years of education, HDL, LDL, FBG, SBP, and DBP are collected. At the same time, peripheral blood was collected, and the concentration of serum NRG 1 was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). All research subjects received professional cognitive function assessment.
A total of 93 VaD patients and 79 controls were enrolled. There was no significant difference in age, gender, years of education, HDL, LDL, FBG, SBP, and DBP between the two groups (
> 0.05). However, compared with the control group, VaD patients have lower MoCA and higher serum NRG 1 levels, and the difference is statistically significant (
< 0.001). The correlation analysis of MoCA and baseline characteristics showed that the MoCA score in VaD was significantly negatively correlated with serum NRG 1 (
= -0.374,
= 0.036). The results of multivariate regression showed that the MoCA score of VaD patients was only associated with NRG 1 (
= 0.258,
= 0.012).
The concentration of serum NRG 1 in VaD patients is significantly increased, which may be an independent risk factor for cognitive impairment in VaD patients.

We aimed to analyze the effects of B. papyrifera leaf extract on growth performance, antioxidant capacity, immune functions, and fecal microflora of weaned piglets. Thirty healthy, 28-day-old piglets were randomly assigned to three groups and fed with a basal diet supplemented with 0, 150, and 300 g/t B. papyrifera leaf extract for 42 days (control group, group I, and group II) separately. The result revealed that the final weight of piglets in group II was higher than the other groups, and the diarrhea rate in this group was 62.9% lower than in the control group. The feed conversion ratio in group I was significantly lower than the other two groups. Higher blood urine nitrogen concentration was noted in group II, higher glutathione peroxidase and catalase in group II, higher superoxide dismutase in the control group, and higher immune globulins (Ig) IgG, IgA, and IgM in group II. There was no significant difference in community richness and community diversity among the three groups of fecal samples. The relative level of Roseburia was higher in groups I and II, while Lactobacillus was higher in the control group. In conclusion, supplementation with B. papyrifera leaf extract at a certain dosage can increase growth performance and antioxidant capacity of weaned piglets, reduce the occurrence of diarrhea, enhance immune functions and disease resistance, and affect the composition of fecal microflora.
Lung cancer (LC) has the highest mortality rate among all the other types of cancer in the world. T cells are known to be the key factor in inducing the immune response during LC.
In this study, we aimed to screen and analyze RNAs associated with CD8(+) T cells and activated memory CD4(+) T cells in lung adenocarcinomas, a subtype of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC-LUAD).
Gene expression RNA-seq data and clinical data of NSCLC-LUAD were downloaded from the XENA database. The data were divided into low scores and high scores based on the Stromal and Immune scores. Then, all the genes were screened for identifying those specifically associated with CD8(+) T cells and activated memory CD4(+) T cells. The screened genes were used for the construction of the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network and for Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis along with prognosis analysis. Based on the results of the prognostic analysis, the prognostic-related genes were used to analyze long noncoding (lnc)RNA-micro(mi)RNA-mRNA networks and to predict small chemical molecules.
According to the Immune and Stromal scores, a total of 885 upregulated and 29 downregulated RNAs were identified. A total of 90 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were found to be related to CD8(+) T immune cells, and 48 DEGs were related to activated memory CD4(+) T cells. GPR174 and CD226 suggested a favorable prognosis. For CD8(+) and activated memory CD4(+) T cells, 112 and 113 PPI edges were obtained, respectively. GPR174 was found to be regulated by hsa-miR-19b-5p and hsa-miR-19b-2-5p, and both of these two miRNAs were regulated by lncRNA PCED1B-AS1. CD226 was regulated by hsa-miR-379-5p, which was in turn regulated by lncRNA RP11-81H14.2.
Our findings provide a deeper understanding of the T cell-related ceRNA regulatory mechanism in NSCLC-LUAD pathogenesis.
