The composition-dependent glass transition temperature, Tg(x), measured with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), was found to correlate well with the measured N/P ratio, y, in the NaPSON glasses.The undesirable sneak current path is one of the key challenges in high-density memory integration for the emerging cross-bar memristor arrays. This work demonstrates a new heterojunction design of oxide multilayer stacking with different oxygen vacancy contents to manipulate the oxidation state. We show that the bipolar resistive switching (BRS) behavior of the Pt/TiOx/Pt cross-bar structure can be changed to complementary resistive switching (CRS) by introducing a thin TiO2 layer in the middle of the TiOx layer to obtain a Pt/TiOx/TiO2/TiOx/Pt device architecture with a double-junction active matrix. In contrast to the BRS in a single-layer TiOx matrix, the device with a double-junction matrix remains in a high-resistance state in the voltage range below the SET voltage, which makes it an efficient structure to overcome the sneak path constraints of undesired half-selected cells that lead to incorrect output reading. This architecture is capable of eliminating these half-selected cells between the nearby cross-bar cells in a smaller programming voltage range. A simplified model for the switching mechanism can be used to account for the observed high-quality switching performance with excellent endurance and current retention properties.In this study, 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) grafted solid lipid nanoparticle (SLN)-based bioconjugate was synthesized and used for administering a combination of melatonin (Mel) and amphotericin B (AmB) orally for effective visceral leishmaniasis (VL) treatment. The formulations (HPCD-Mel-AmB SLN) were synthesized by the emulsion solvent evaporation method. HPCD-Mel-AmB SLN showed a high loading capacity and a high entrapment efficiency of AmB (% DL = 9.0 ± 0.55 and % EE = 87.9 ± 0.57) and Mel (% DL = 7.5 ± 0.51 and % EE = 63 ± 6.24). The cumulative percent release of AmB and Mel was 66.10 and 73.06%, respectively, up to 72 h. Time-dependent cellular uptake was noticed for HPCD-Mel-AmB SLN for 4 h. Further, HPCD-Mel-AmB SLN did not show any toxic effects on J774A.1 macrophages and Swiss albino mice. HPCD-Mel-AmB SLN (10 mg/kg ×5 days, p.o.) has significantly diminished (98.89%) the intracellular parasite load in liver tissues of L. donovani-infected BALB/c mice, subsequently highlighting the role of melatonin toward an effective strategy in combating leishmanial infection. Therefore, these results indicated that administration of HPCD-Mel-AmB SLN improve the therapeutic index of the first-line drug in addition to the introduction of biological agent and would be a promising therapeutic candidate for effective VL therapy. In the present study, the objective is to test the efficacy of the chemotherapeutic approach in combination with a biological immunomodulatory agent against leishmanial infection using in vitro and in vivo studies. This information suggests that melatonin could be an efficacious and potent antileishmanial agent.
To explore whether the different phases of the nasal cycle have a significant effect on nasal temperature, the nasal mucosal clearance rate, and levels of nasal nitric oxide (nNO) and to investigate the correlation between these nasal conditions.
The study participants were divided into 2 groups the control group and the rhinitis group. The participants' nasal temperature, cilia clearance rate, and nNO levels were measured during different phases of the nasal cycle (the congestion phase and decongestion phase) in the control group and before and after undergoing inferior turbinate ablation in the rhinitis group.
The temperature of the nasal cavity in the control group was significantly higher in the congestion phase than in the decongestion phase (
= .0025), while in the rhinitis group, the temperature of the nasal cavity decreased significantly after inferior turbinate ablation (
= .001). In the control group, the nasal mucosa clearance time was significantly shorter in the congestion phase than insma ablation can improve the ciliary function of the nasal mucosa, reduce the temperature of the nasal cavity, and reduce nNO levels.The circulation of arboviruses in livestock ruminants has often gone unrecognized owing to the fact that a significant percentage of arboviruses probably induce subclinical infections and/or negligible symptoms in infected animals. To determine the current situation of arbovirus circulation in the Yaeyama Islands, attempts to isolate viruses from bovine blood samples collected between 2014 and 2019 have been made. In total, 308 blood samples were collected during the study period, and 43 of them induced cytopathic effects (CPEs) in cell cultures. The identification of the CPE agents was performed by reported RT-PCR assays and a high-throughput analysis with a next-generation sequencing platform. The obtained viruses consisted of an orthobunyavirus (Peaton virus), Culicoides-borne orbiviruses (bluetongue virus serotypes 12 and 16, epizootic hemorrhagic disease virus [EHDV] serotypes 5, 6, and 7, D'Aguilar virus, and Bunyip Creek virus), and potential mosquito-borne orbiviruses (Yunnan orbivirus, Guangxi orbivirus, and Yonaguni orbivirus). Most of the orbiviruses were recovered from washed blood cells with mosquito cell cultures, suggesting that this combination was more efficient than other combinations such as plasma/blood cells and hamster cell lines. This marked the first time that the isolation of EHDV serotypes 5 and 6 and three potential mosquito-borne orbiviruses was recorded in Japan, showing a greater variety of orbiviruses on the islands than previously known. Genetic analysis of the isolated orbiviruses suggested that the Yaeyama Islands and its neighboring regions were epidemiologically related. Some of the viruses, especially the potential mosquito-borne orbiviruses, were isolated during several consecutive years, indicating their establishment on the islands.
To develop a French Short Version of the Questionnaire of Olfactory Disorders-Negative Statements (Fr-sQOD) to assess the quality of life impairments of patients with olfactory dysfunction (OD).
Patients with OD and controls were enrolled from 2 academic centers. Individuals completed the Fr-sQOD, an OD visual analog scale severity, and the French version of the sinonasal outcome tool-22 (SNOT-22). Cronbach α was used to measure the internal consistency of Fr-sQOD. The reliability and the external validity of Fr-sQOD were assessed through a test-retest approach and by correlating Fr-sQOD with SNOT-22 scores, respectively. The external validity was assessed by correlation analysis between Fr-sQOD and the result of an assessment of the severity of OD on a visual analog scale.
Eighty patients completed the evaluations. The internal consistency was adequate (Cronbach α .96), and the test-retest reliability was high in the entire cohort (r
= 0.877,
< .001). The correlation between Fr-sQOD total scores and the severity of OD was moderate but significant (r
= -0.431;
= .001) supporting an acceptable external validity. Patients with OD had a significantly higher score of Fr-sQOD than healthy individuals (
< .001), indicating a high internal validity.
The Fr-sQOD is a reliable and valid self-administered tool in the evaluation of the impact of OD on quality of life of French-speaking patients.

However, little is known about their perspectives on clinical challenges in caring for this population. An online survey was used to assess issues around providing care for unrepresented patients. Ninety-two American Geriatrics Society members working with older adults in inpatient and/or outpatient settings completed the survey. Descriptive qualitative analysis of narrative survey responses identified five broad themes (a) health risk characteristics of patients, (b) care decisions facing the team, (c) psychosocial considerations by the team, (d) patient outcomes, and (e) burden of the provider and/or health system. These findings demonstrate that geriatrics clinicians face challenges in working with unrepresented adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings. We interpret these results in light of existing literature and propose collaborative approaches that may improve outcomes.Primary vaginal carcinosarcoma (VCS) is an extremely rare and aggressive tumor consisting of admixed malignant epithelial and mesenchymal elements. We report a case of VCS that was subjected to analysis by immunohistochemistry and next-generation sequencing (NGS). A 53-year-old woman with post-menopausal vaginal bleeding underwent surgical excision followed by concurrent chemoradiation. SM04690 A well demarcated tumor was growing in a discontinuous fashion at a location some distance from both the cervix and vulva. Microscopically, the tumor consisted of adenocarcinoma components and sarcoma components consisting of a sheet-like growth of spindle-shaped cells, and we diagnosed this tumor as primary vaginal carcinosarcoma. NGS analysis of each component identified the following variants, TP53, PIK3CA, KRAS and FBXW7. A comparison of microsatellite instability (MSI) and tumor mutation burden (TMB) showed that within both tissues the sarcomatous components had a higher MSI and TMB than the carcinomatous components. This case supports "a monoclonal theory" with the genome profile being similar to other malignant mixed Müllerian tumors.
Radiation therapy is regarded as an effective treatment for early ovarian cancer (OC). However, due to radiation resistance caused by DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) and angiogenesis, the efficacy of radiotherapy for advanced OC is limited and controversial.
To explore whether ultrasound-stimulated microbubbles (USMBs) can enhance the radiosensitivity of OC.
OC cells (ES-2) were respectively irradiated with 5-Gy and 10-Gy radiation doses with or without exposure to USMB. Methyl thiazolyltetrazolium (MTT) and colony-formation assays were conducted to detect the viability and proliferation of ES-2 cells after USMBs and ionizing radiation (IR) treatment. Immunofluorescence assays were conducted to examine levels of gamma-H2A histone family member X (γ-H2AX), an indicator for DSBs. Flow cytometry analyses were carried out to assess the apoptosis of ES-2 cells. The angiogenic activity of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) was measured by tube formation assays.
USMBs enhanced IR-induced suppressive effect on the viability and proliferation of OC cells. The protein levels of phosphorylated γ-H2AX and CHK1 were significantly upregulated after IR treatment and further enhanced by USMBs. In addition, USMBs enhanced the promotion of IR-mediated OC cell apoptosis. The inhibitory effect of IR on angiogenesis was further enhanced by USMBs, and protein levels of AT1R, VEGFA, and EGFR were downregulated by IR in a dose-dependent way and then enhanced by USMB treatment in HUVECs.
USMB exposure significantly enhances the radiosensitivity of OC by suppressing cell proliferation, promoting OC cell apoptosis, and inhibiting angiogenesis.
