The professional rewards of providing medical assistance in dying outweigh the challenges, offering an alternative narrative to more publicly accepted views of assisting someone to die. © The Author(s) 2020.Background This article describes the design of an intervention study that focuses on whether and to what degree culturally competent social robots can improve health and well-being related outcomes among older adults residing long-term care homes. The trial forms the final stage of the international, multidisciplinary CARESSES project aimed at designing, developing and evaluating culturally competent robots that can assist older people according to the culture of the individual they are supporting. The importance of cultural competence has been demonstrated in previous nursing literature to be key towards improving health outcomes among patients. Method This study employed a mixed-method, single-blind, parallel-group controlled before-and-after experimental trial design that took place in England and Japan. It aimed to recruit 45 residents of long-term care homes aged ≥65 years, possess sufficient cognitive and physical health and who self-identify with the English, Indian or Japanese culture (n = 15 each). y and limited pool of evidence regarding the benefits of socially assistive robots for older adults which to date indicates considerable potential for improving outcomes. It is the first to assess whether and to what extent cultural competence carries importance in generating improvements to well-being. It quantifies the matter of interest and gives an indication whether the intervention taken was effective or not- as a means for monitoring and evaluation (Murray and Frenk, Lancet 3711191-1199, 2008). This article advocates for a new metric by suggesting criteria to construct it, in order to provide a "value-based" measurement for CA-MRSA as a starting point for all infectious diseases. It also discusses challenges to this suggested approach. © The Author(s). 2020.Background The oil from industrial hemp seeds (Cannabis sativa) is an ideal source of stearidonic acid, which is a precursor fatty acid for the long-chained n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. These fatty acids are important for neonatal development, health and immunity. Hemp seed oil has been investigated for the influence on human health, but research on the impact in pig nutrition is scarce. The aim of our research was to study the effect of dietary hemp seed oil relative to soybean oil to lactating sows on the transfer of fatty acids to the off-spring and the effect on piglets' immune and nutritional status. Results The fatty acid composition of the hemp seed and the soybean oil influenced the fatty acid composition of sow plasma, colostrum and mature milk. The highest proportion of C183n-3, C184n-3 and C204n-6 was obtained in mature milk fat of sows fed 5% hemp seed oil diet when compared to the other dietary fat sources (5% soybean oil or a 5050 mix of hemp and soybean oil at 5%). The effect of dietary oilseed oil to benefit piglets during early life. © The Author(s). 2020.Given the demand for developing the efficient Machine Learning (ML) classification models for healthcare data, and the potentiality of Bio-Inspired Optimization (BIO) algorithms to tackle the problem of high dimensional data, we investigate the range of ML classification models trained with the optimal subset of features of PD data set for efficient PD classification. We used two BIO algorithms, Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO), to determine the optimal subset of features of PD data set. The data set chosen for investigation comprises 756 observations (rows or records) taken over 755 attributes (columns or dimensions or features) from 252 PD patients. We employed MaxAbsolute feature scaling method to normalize the data and one hold cross-validation method to avoid biased results. Accordingly, the data is split in to training and testing set in the ratio of 70% and 30%. Subsequently, we employed GA and BPSO algorithms separately on 11 ML classifiers (Logistic Regression (LR)ed 46.48% of the dimensionality reduction by selecting only 403 features. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.Pulmonary hypertension may arise as a complication of chronic lung disease typically associated with tissue hypoxia, as well as infectious agents or injury eliciting a type 2 immune response. The onset of pulmonary hypertension in this setting (classified as Group 3) often complicates treatment and worsens prognosis of chronic lung disease. Chronic lung diseases such as chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD), emphysema, and interstitial lung fibrosis impair airflow and alter lung elastance in addition to affecting pulmonary vascular hemodynamics that may culminate in right ventricle dysfunction. To date, functional endpoints in murine models of chronic lung disease have typically been limited to separately measuring airway and lung parenchyma physiology. These approaches may be lengthy and require a large number of animals per experiment. Here, we provide a detailed protocol for combined assessment of airway physiology with cardiovascular hemodynamics in mice. Ultimately, a comprehensive overview of pulmonary function in murine models of injury and disease will facilitate the integration of studies of the airway and vascular biology necessary to understand underlying pathophysiology of Group 3 pulmonary hypertension. © The Author(s) 2020.Implantable infusion pumps might improve the convenience and safety of intravenous treprostinil for pulmonary arterial hypertension. The LENUS Pro® pump (approved in Europe) has a fixed flow rate. Based on 126 pumps and 2853 refills, we retrospectively analyzed the actual flow rate from 09/2010 to 09/2018. A relevant flow rate variance is evident after three years; therefore, flow rate monitoring and dose adjustment are mandatory. © The Author(s) 2020.
