CONCLUSION This gene signature accurately distinguishes early TB disease from those without TB disease or infection, in the context of community-wide TB screening. Our finding indicates that separate memory traces of merged phonemes could be rebuilt during the training process. The present review examines the role of CRF in preclinical models of alcohol and nicotine abuse and explores links between CRF and anxiety-like, dysphoria-like, and other negative affective states. Finally, the present review discusses preclinical models of nicotine and alcohol use with regard to the CRF system, advances in molecular and genetic manipulations of CRF, and the importance of examining both males and females in this field of research. V.The progressive changes of brain structure in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) remain controversial. To identify this controversy, a systematic review and meta-analysis of longitudinal magnetic resonance imaging studies in brain volume was performed. The percentage of volume change over time between patients with PD and healthy subjects of each brain region of interest was obtained. In total, 11 studies, comprising 833 cases (463 patients with PD and 370 healthy control subjects), were included for systematic review and meta-analysis. Ten brain regions were involved. Patients with PD in comparison with healthy controls showed significant progressive reductions in whole gray matter and caudate, putamen, accumbens, and amygdala volumes. Significant whole-brain atrophy from PD was also associated with cognitive dysfunction. The annual percentage of volume loss was -1.04% in whole-brain volume with cognitive decline, -1.16% in whole-brain volume in PD compared to PD with cognitive decline, -0.29% for whole gray matter, -0.62% for caudate, -0.97% for putamen, -3.55% for amygdala, and -5.40% for accumbens in patients with PD versus control subjects. Overall, our findings suggest that PD is related to progressive, regional brain atrophy, mainly affecting gray matter. However, due to existing confounding factors, the limited number of included studies, significant heterogeneity, and defective study design, the results should be interpreted with caution. Further confirmation is required by more studies with strict design, large samples, and unified paradigm. V.Aim of the study is to determine whether the auditory processing of temporal fine structure (TFS) is affected with normal aging, even in the presence of normal audiometric hearing and fine cognitive state; and, if it is, to see whether a comparable effect is also observed in the processing of a diotic change in sound envelope. The event-related potentials (ERPs) to binaural beats (BBs), which are the responses of the binaural mechanisms processing TFS of a sound, and the ERPs to diotic amplitude modulation (AM) stimuli, which are the responses of the monaural mechanisms processing the changes in its envelope, were recorded from thirteen young university students and ten senior but active university professors, all with normal hearing in low frequencies. To obtain directly the specific BB responses without confounding monaural frequency change-evoked responses, we used single-cycle BB stimuli with temporary sub-threshold frequency shifts. Prostate cancer (PCa) is characterized by a unique dependence on optimal androgen receptor (AR) activity where physiological androgen concentrations induce proliferation but castrate and supraphysiological levels suppress growth. This feature has been exploited in bipolar androgen therapy (BAT) for castrate resistant malignancies. Here, we investigated the role of the tumor suppressor protein p14ARF in maintaining optimal AR activity and the function of the AR itself in regulating p14ARF levels. We used a tumor tissue array of differing stages and grades to define the relationships between these components and identified a strong positive correlation between p14ARF and AR expression. Mechanistic studies utilizing CWR22 xenograft and cell culture models revealed that a decrease in AR reduced p14ARF expression and deregulated E2F factors, which are linked to p14ARF and AR regulation. Chromatin immunoprecipitation studies identified AR binding sites upstream of p14ARF. p14ARF depletion enhanced AR-dependent PSA and TMPRSS2 transcription, hence p14ARF constrains AR activity. However, p14ARF depletion ultimately results in apoptosis. In PCa cells, AR co-ops p14ARF as part of a feedback mechanism to ensure optimal AR activity for maximal prostate cancer cell survival and proliferation. V.Gestational vitamin D deficiency is associated with pulmonary diseases. This study aimed to investigate the effect of gestational vitamin D deficiency on fetal lung development in mice. Absolute and relative weights of fetal lungs were reduced in vitamin D deficient (VDD) group. Incrassate mesenchyme, measured by septal wall thickness, accompanied by lessened saccular space, was shown in VDD group. Numerous immature type II pneumocytes, as determined by PAS staining, were observed in VDD group. Moreover, increased Ki67-positive cells, a marker of cell proliferation, was detected in VDD group. The additional experiments showed that Sftpa, Sftpb, Sftpc and Sftpd, four surfactant genes, were downregulated and pro-surfactant protein B was reduced in VDD group. FoxA1, FoxA2 and TTF-1, three transcription factors that regulate surfactant genes, and VEGF, a key regulator for pulmonary maturation, were downregulated in VDD group. These results suggest that gestational vitamin D deficiency impairs fetal lung development partially through suppressing type II pneumocyte differentiation. ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Frankincense (Boswellia sacra Fluck.,) is a widely used herbal drug and household medicine for treatment of several diseases. Earlier toxicological studies revealed its proulcerogenic effect and no significant hepatotoxic or nephrotoxic effects in rats. However, some other members of Boswellia species such as Boswellia papyrifera (Caill. ex Delile) Hochst and Boswellia carterii have been reported for testicular toxicity in rats. AIM OF THE STUDY Testicular toxicity of standardized methanolic extract of B. sacra oleo gum resin was determined through repeated oral dose administration for 28 days. Biochemical, histological and genetic changes in rat testes were evaluated. MATERIALS AND METHODS B. sacra extract was analyzed for its boswellic acid content by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. The extract was administered at three different doses to rats. Effect on behavior, weight, food and water consumption along with changes in serum testosterone levels and cytoarchitecture of testis, epididymis and adrenal gland were determined.
