Graphene papers (GPs) have revolutionized the area of sensors toward low-cost, user-friendly and wearable/portable owning to their unique properties such as scalable production capacity, tunable microstructure, and extraordinary mechanical flexibility. They can be utilized as versatile building blocks by regulating their architectures to enhance various properties like electronic property, thermal conductivity and mechanical strength. Furthermore, thanks to the excellent compatibility, GPs as support materials are able to associate with other materials through various interaction forces to realize specific functionalization. With the impressive performances mentioned above, lots of smart devices like flexible sensors, advanced wearable/stretchable electronics, and high-performance point-of-care analytical devices are continually and rapidly being developed. LGK974 Herein, this review aims at offering a critical engineering insight from smart architecture of macroscopic GPs to sensor application, with the emphasis on purpose-driven specific dual-mode functionalization (structural functionalization and foreign materials functionalization). We summarize the multiple possibilities to functionalize graphene and its derivative based papers/films/membranes. The sensing application of GPs in human health management, food contaminant inspection, and environmental monitoring is evaluated just before leading to our conclusions and perspectives.Enzyme-mediated signal amplification strategies have gained substantial attention in photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensing, while natural enzyme on the photoelectrode inevitably obstructs the interfacial electron transfer, in turn deteriorating the photocurrent responses. Herein, Au nanoparticles and Cu2+-modified boron nitride nanosheets (AuNPs/Cu2+-BNNS) behaved as nanozyme to achieve remarkable magnification in the PEC signals from a novel signal-off aptasensor for ultra-sensitive assay of telomerase (TE) activity based on Ag2S/Ag nanoparticles decorated ZnIn2S4/C3N4 Z-scheme heterostructures (termed as Ag2S/Ag/ZnIn2S4/C3N4, synthesized by hydrothermal treatment). Specifically, telomerase primer sequences (TS) were extended by TE in the presence of deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates (dNTPs), which was directly bond with the thiol modified complementary DNA (cDNA), achieving efficient linkage with the nanozyme via Au-S bond. The immobilized nanoenzyme catalyzed the oxidation between 4-chloro-1-naphthol (4-CN) and H2O2 to generate insoluble precipitation on the photo-electrode. By virtue of the inhibited PEC signals with the TE-enabled TS extension, an aptasensor for assay of TE activity was developed, showing the wide linear range of 50-5×105 cell mL-1 and a low detection limit of 19 cell mL-1. This work provides some valuable guidelines for developing advanced nanozyme-based PEC bioanalysis of diverse cancer cells.Thread-based electrochemical immunosensor is fabricated for non-invasive detection of cortisol in sweat by immobilization of anti-cortisol on L-cys/AuNPs/MXene modified conductive thread electrode. MXene and AuNPs increase the surface area of conductive thread electrode and facilitate anti-cortisol immobilization leading to enhanced sensor sensitivity. Anti-cortisol is immobilized on L-cys/AuNPs/MXene modified electrode by using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide and N-hydroxysulfosuccinimide coupling agents. The electrochemical detection of cortisol is based on the decrease of oxidation current towards the antigen-antibody binding interaction owing to blocking of electron transfer process by cortisol. Under the optimal conditions, this immunosensor offers high sensitivity, a wide linearity of 5-180 ng mL-1 and a detection limit of 0.54 ng mL-1 with negligible effect from interferences. Furthermore, this immunosensor provides high reproducibility and long-term storage stability (≥6 weeks). Ultimately, this system is successfully applied for the detection of cortisol in artificial sweat with satisfactory results. Hence, this platform might be suitable to apply as a wearable electrochemical sensor for sweat cortisol by integrating on a wristband.MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a very important regulatory role in life activities. Abnormal expression levels of miRNAs in cells are associated with various diseases, especially human cancer. Nevertheless, accurate detection of the copy numbers of various miRNA molecules in single cell is still a great challenge. In this study, an intracellular multivariate signal amplification strategy based on microchip platform was proposed, and an ultrasensitive single-cell analysis method was established for simultaneous quantification of absolute copy numbers of multiple miRNAs in a single cell. Using miRNA-21 and miRNA-141 as the analytical models of miRNAs, the detection limits of 1.0 and 2.0 fM were obtained. Based on the developed method, an analysis of 600 randomly acquired different types of cells was performed. The distribution of absolute copy numbers of miRNA-21 and miRNA-141 in six types of cells was obtained. It was found that the number of copies of miRNA-21 and miRNA-141 in different types of cancer cells showed different expression characteristics. The study results can help us more accurately understand cell-to-cell heterogeneity and the relationship between different miRNAs and different types of cancer at the single cell level.Isoflavones (IFs) are biocompounds found in considerable amounts in soybean grains. However, to originate soybean-based materials, the grains must be subjected to numerous thermal and mechanical treatments, which can impair the IFs content. The influence of these treatments was investigated and a protocol for IFs extraction and quantification is proposed. Sequential extractions were performed on industrially pretreated soybean samples (broken, flakes, and collets), on okara submitted to different drying methods (freeze-drying, forced convection, and under vacuum), and on soybean oils extracted with hexane and ethanol. β-glucosides levels were decreased by the thermal processes of lamination, expansion, and drying, while the aglycone forms were not affected. Lyophilization was identified as the most viable drying method for the quantification of IFs in okara. Soybean oils extracted with ethanol presented significant amounts of aglycone. Furthermore, two stages of extraction were sufficient for the recovery of the IFs from different matrices.
Children born to parents with intellectual disability (ID) have been shown as disproportionally represented in child protection services however with limited population-based research.

To investigate child protection involvement for children born to mothers with ID in Western Australia using linked administrative data.

A cohort of 1106 children born to a mother with ID and a comparison group of 9796 children of mothers without ID were identified in Western Australia.

Cox regression analyses stratified by maternal Aboriginal status were conducted to investigate risk of child involvement with child protection services and care placement. Interaction with child age, intellectual disability status, and maternal mental health and substance use was investigated.

Children born to a mother with ID were both at higher risk of having contact with child protection services (HR 4.35 (3.70-5.12)) and placement in out-of-home care (HR 6.21 (4.73-8.17)). For non-Aboriginal children, the risks of child protection involvement and placement for those born to mothers with ID were 7 times and 12 times higher than those of mothers without ID. The risk was lower for Aboriginal children, at 1.8 and 1.9 times, respectively. Infants born to mothers with ID were at higher risk of child protection involvement compared to other age groups. Maternal mental health and substance use moderated the increased risk.

Intellectual disability alone is not sufficient justification for removal of children from their parents. The challenge for family services is ensuring that resources are adequate to meet the family's needs.

Peer victimization is a source of stress for many adolescents and has important implications for their psychosocial development. Importantly, adolescents' experiences of peer victimization are dynamic and may change over time, due to individual and school-based contextual factors.

The goal of the current study was to examine the stability of peer victimization and predictive effects of individual and contextual factors on the changes in patterns of victimization for Chinese adolescents over a 12-month period.

A total of 1281 Chinese middle school students (Time 1 [T1] M
=13.40, SD=0.97; 56.3% males) participated in the study.

Adolescents self-reported on a variety of variables at baseline (i.e., T1) and 12months later (i.e., Time 2 [T2]). Latent Profile Analysis (LPA) and Latent Transition Analysis (LTA) were used to identify latent profiles and transition patterns of victimization among adolescents. Additionally, logistic regressions were used to investigate the effects of social emotional competence and school climate on the victimization types and transition patterns of adolescents.

Adolescents' patterns of victimization could be divided into three groups, including (1) a low victimized group, (2) a moderately and verbally victimized group, and (3) a severe multi-type victimized group. Adolescents in the low victimized group showed the highest stability in their peer victimization experiences from T1 to T2. Social emotional competence and school climate had significant effects on the probability of transitioning from the low victimization group to a higher victimization group over time.

These findings emphasize the importance of early intervention efforts designed to curb peer victimization among Chinese adolescents.

Domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST) survivors are disproportionately involved in the juvenile justice system, but frequently run away and experience retrafficking. However, little research explores how practitioners who work with juvenile justice-involved DMST survivors address such dynamics.

This study examines challenges related to chronic runaway behaviors and related retrafficking of juvenile justice-involved DMST survivors from the perspective of practitioners.

35 in-depth interviews were conducted with social service and justice system practitioners working with DMST survivors in a Midwestern metropolitan area.

Inductive analysis of the transcribed interviews involved a multi-phase, independent co-coding process conducted by three members of the research team, including selective coding, open coding, and taxonomic analysis to identify recurring themes and subthemes. Core themes that focused on challenges experienced by practitioners working with minors who chronically ran away and returned to rs' access to trauma-informed residential care, therapeutic care, and substance use treatment by legislatively expanding healthcare coverage under Safe Harbor laws.
Non-punitive responses to address chronic runaway behaviors and retrafficking of minors in the justice system include placement with foster families trained in dynamics of sex trafficking, trauma, and runaway behaviors; safety planning including risk assessments and providing resource information about drop in centers and healthcare; revising hotlining procedures for concerned parents; and increasing minors' access to trauma-informed residential care, therapeutic care, and substance use treatment by legislatively expanding healthcare coverage under Safe Harbor laws.
