66, p less then 0.001) with Pcoll content in the microaggregates. Furthermore, the partial least squares path model analysis indicated that biochar amendments directly increased Pcoll content (0.76 and 0.61) in micro- and macroaggregates, but the reduced Pcoll content by biochar was mainly derived from indirect effects, such as changed soil biological characteristics carbon (C)/P (-0.69), microbial biomass C (-0.63), microbial biomass P (-0.68), keystone taxa Proteobacteria (-0.63), and Ascomycota (-0.59), particularly for the macroaggregates. This study highlights that to some extent, biochar addition can reduce soil Pcoll content by affecting microbial communities (some keystone taxa), and soil biological characteristics at soil aggregate level. The use of biosorption as a strategy for lowering the amount of pollution caused by heavy metals is particularly encouraging. In this investigation, a low-cost and efficient biosorbent, Inula Viscosa leaves were used to remove zinc ions (Zn2+) from synthetic wastewater. A Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy experiment, a scanning electron microscopy experiment, and an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy experiment were used to describe the support. Several different physicochemical factors, such as the beginning pH value, contact duration, initial zinc concentration, biosorbent dose, and temperature, were investigated in this study. When the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, Toth, and Redlich-Peterson models were used to match the data from the Inula Viscosa leaves biosorption isotherms, it was found that the biosorption isotherms correspond most closely with the Langmuir isotherm. On the other hand, the kinetic biosorption process was investigated using pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order (PS2), and Elovich models. The PS2 model was the one that provided the most accurate description of the biosorption kinetics. The thermodynamics process shows the spontaneous and endothermic character of Zn2+ sorption on Inula Viscosa leaves, which also entails the participation of physical interactions. In addition, the atom-in-molecule analysis, density functional theory, and the conductor like screening model for real solvents, were used to investigate the relationship that exists between quantum calculations and experimental outcomes.Soil erosion by water is a major cause of land degradation in the highlands of Ethiopia and anywhere else in the world, but its magnitude and variability are rarely documented across land uses and climatological conditions. The purpose of this study was to examine runoff and soil loss responses under cropland (CL) and grazing land (GL) management practices in three climatic regions of the Ethiopian highlands semi-arid (Mayleba), dry sub-humid (Gumara), and humid (Guder). We measured runoff and soil loss using runoff plots with and without soil and water conservation (SWC) measures (trenches, stone/soil bunds [embankments] with trenches on the upslope side, and exclosure) during the rainy season (July-September). The results revealed significant variation in runoff and soil loss amounts across land uses, SWC measures, and climatic regions. At Mayleba, seasonal runoff and soil loss in control plot were far higher from GL (280 mm, 26.5 t ha-1) than from CL (108 mm, 7.0 t ha-1) largely due to lack of protective v geographical areas, as they do in Ethiopia and anywhere else. However, further investigation is crucial with replication of measurements over years and locations to provide more accurate information on land use, management and climate controls on hydrological and soil erosion processes. In this study, a novel process for the recovery of Ni from Ni-bearing electroplating sludge (ES) is proposed, which involves the carbothermic reduction stage and smelting stage. In the reduction stage, the CaSO4, Fe2O3, and NiO in the ES were reduced by carbon at 1000 °C, and the Ni3S2 and Fe4Ni5S8(Ni-rich phases) were generated. After that, the reduced ES was mixed with SiO2 and smelted at 1500 °C. During the smelting stage, Ni3S2 and Fe4Ni5S8 were melted to form liquid Ni-Fe-S matte and separated from the molten slag by gravity. Finally, 58.5%Ni-13.8%Fe-27.7%S (in weight) matte and vitrified slag were obtained. The recovery ratio of Ni (97.2%) was much higher than that of Fe (14.7%). Besides, the Ni/Fe mass ratio of the ES was 0.7, while the ratio of the prepared matte was about 4.2. Therefore, the selective recovery of Ni was achieved. 4-Aminobutyric clinical trial The obtained Ni matte can be used as the raw material for pure Ni or Ni-bearing chemicals.Global atmospheric changes are characterized by increases in carbon dioxide (CO2) and ozone (O3) concentrations, with important consequences for the soil microbial community. However, the influences of CO2 and O3 enrichment on the biomass, diversity, composition, and functioning of the soil bacterial community remain unclear. We investigated the effects of short-term factorial combinations of CO2 (by 200 ppm) and O3 (by 40 ppb) enrichment on the dynamics of soil bacterial community in paddy soils with two rice varieties (Japonica, Nangeng 5055 (NG5055) vs. Wuyujing 3 (WYJ3)) in an open top chamber facility. When averaged both varieties, CO2 and O3 enrichment showed no individual or combined effect on the abundance or diversity of soil bacterial community. Similarly, CO2 enrichment did not exert any significant effect on the relative abundance of bacterial phyla. However, O3 enrichment significantly reduced the relative abundance of Myxococcota phylum by a mean of 37.5%, which negatively correlated to root N content. Compared to ambient conditions, soil bacterial community composition was separated by CO2 enrichment in NG5055, and by both CO2 and O3 enrichment in WYJ3, with root N content identified as the most influential factor. These results indicated that root N was the top direct predictor for the community composition of soil bacteria. The COG (cluster of orthologous groups) protein of cell motility was significantly reduced by 5.8% under CO2 enrichment, and the COG protein of cytoskeleton was significantly decreased by 14.7% under O3 enrichment. Furthermore, the co-occurrence network analysis indicated that both CO2 and O3 enrichment decreased the network complexity of the soil bacterial community. Overall, our results highlight that continuous CO2 and O3 enrichment would potentially damage the health of paddy soils through adverse impacts on the associations and functional composition of soil microbial communities.Chemical immobilisation is extensively used for in-situ remediation of heavy metals contaminated soil. Immobilised heavy metals could be reactivated by multiple factors such as pH, moisture, temperature, rainfall, etc., among which rainfall is very important, especially acid rain in southern China. Wet-dry alternations were used to simulate the leaching of metals by rainwater. The variation of cadmium (Cd) and zinc (Zn) speciation distribution in soil immobilised with iron oxides (goethite (GE) and 2-line ferrihydrite (GLS)) was investigated. The impacts of wet-dry alternations on the properties of the soil and amendments were also assessed. In the soil without amendments (OS) and amended with GE (GS), the stable fractions were reactivated and transformed into labile fractions under wet-dry alternations. In the soil amended with GLS (LS), the exchangeable and carbonate-bound Cd decreased while the soluble, Fe-Mn oxide bound and organic bound Cd increased. The carbonate-bound Zn was transformed into the Fe-Mn oxide-bound Zn. Transformation from the amorphous iron oxide into crystalline iron oxide in GS and LS were 4.9% and 5.3%. The Pearson correlation analysis showed that the soil pH and the iron-oxide speciation were strongly correlated with Cd/Zn fractions in the soil. The specific surface area, pore volume and adsorption capacity of the iron oxides decreased by 9.26%, 38.89% and 62-73% (for GE), 1.88%, 22.22% and 26-55% (for GLS). The altered soil properties and morphological differences between the two iron oxides under wet-dry alternations were important reasons for Cd/Zn reactivation. The economic effects of rural e-commerce have been fully discussed by scholars, but few studies focus on the environmental effects of rural e-commerce. This study takes the reduced application of chemical fertilizer in China as an example. On the basis of constructing the corresponding theoretical framework, we take the promotion of Rural E-Commerce Demonstration County (REDC) policy as a quasi-natural experiment, using the county panel data from 2000 to 2020 and the multi-period difference-in-difference method to excavate the influence of rural e-commerce on the fertilizer reduction. Our results show that REDC policy reduces the amount of chemical fertilizer applied in the county by 21%, which is unexpected. Our findings passed a series of robustness tests, including dealing with selective bias, eliminating other policy interference in the same period and placebo test. Based on the heterogeneity analysis of grain production and marketing regions and informatization level, it is found that the effect of fertilizer reduction by rural e-commerce is more impressive in the major grain production areas and counties with low informatization level. According to the theoretical framework, we use the mediating effect model to verify the transmission mechanism of marginal income improvement, mechanization and labor transfer. Therefore, we believe that policy designers can use e-commerce to promote farmers to adopt the production strategies of reducing fertilizer application. The findings and recommendations of this study may be relevant to other countries with free trading markets and e-commerce platforms.Although the contamination situation of chromium (Cr) and vanadium (V) have been revealed, the effects of their re-release on ecological risk in contaminated acidic paddy soil are unclear. To evaluate the effects, we assigned soil microcosms across three different concentration (100, 200, 300 mg/L) and introduced Cr and V alone or combination into an already slightly contaminated acidic soil. We found that Cr and V alone or interacted to increased soil bioavailable-metals, changed soil properties and nutrients to varying degrees. Meanwhile, soil ammoniacal nitrogen (NH4+-N) and nitrate nitrogen (NO3--N) contents, nitrogen (N) -cycling enzyme activities, microbial mass N were significantly influenced by Cr addition. Which demonstrated that Cr re-release may disturb soil N cycle. However, V alone significantly improved soil NO3--N contents, cellulase and dehydrogenase activities, soil respiration intensity and microbial mass carbon nitrogen. Meanwhile, V addition also decreased bacterial diversity while Cr addition increased bacterial diversity and shaped new bacterial community, some V(V) and Cr (VI) reducing bacteria were identified. Heatmap of Pearson correlation and Redundancy analysis showed that NH4+-N, NO3--N, Potassium, Phosphorus, and Cr played an important role in bacterial community structure. These findings suggested that re-release of Cr and V disturbed soil function and raised ecological risks, and the power to destroy the ecosystem stability originated from Cr was much stronger than V. This study was contributed to understand the effects of Cr and V re-release on microecology in contaminated acidic agricultural soil.
