Tennis is a popular global sport characterised by repeated, explosive motions and the involvement of several muscle groups during different strokes, which fluctuates randomly from brief periods of maximal or near maximal work to longer periods of moderate and low intensity activity.

To determine the pattern of injuries amongst tennis players in Accra.

A cross-sectional study was conducted, involving 142 male and female participants selected from tennis clubs in Accra and the Accra sports stadium. A standardised tennis injury report form was used to obtain data from participants. Data on the parts of the body mostly injured and the types of injury mostly sustained by the players were summarised and presented appropriately with the use of graphs and pie charts. Assessment of the causes underlying the prevailing injuries to tennis players was also tabulated and comparisons made.

Out of a total of 170 injuries recorded, knee (39 [27.5%]) and shoulder (31 [21.1%]) injuries were the most commonly sustained.yers and coaches on injury prevention measures and the use of protective gear during tennis.
Numerous factors may influence academic performance and success in undergraduate physiotherapy programmes. Understanding these factors could assist with student selection and design of support structures.

The objective of our study was to explore the amount of variance explained by the National Benchmark Test (NBT) and the National Senior Certificate (NSC) in passing the first year of study and to explore the association between the NBT performance bands and first-year progression outcome.

The sample comprised 2013-2017 student cohorts. Hierarchical regression models were used to explore significant predictors for academic success in the first year of study. The chi-square test was used to assess the association between the NBT performance bands and the categorised progression outcome.

The NBT domains explained 22% of the variance,

= 0.229,
(3, 212) = 20.97,
= 0.000. The four NSC subjects accounted for 20% of the variance. All seven predicting variables contributed to 43% of the variance in the first year of study,

= 0.435,
(7, 208) = 27.29,
= 0.000. Associations between NBT domains and GPA quantitative literacy (Φ = 0.27;
< 0.000); academic literacy (Φ = 0.22;
< 0.000); mathematics (Φ = 0.18;
= 0.014).

Academic success is associated with academic factors as measured by the NBT and physical sciences matriculation results.

Support programmes in the first year of study are needed to improve student performance and success such as additional tutorials and language enrichment programmes.

Children living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are faced with challenges, such as social and contextual barriers in society, resulting from their disabilities. Schooling and education, which are crucial for children's future livelihoods, are areas in which children living with HIV often experience exclusion within South African communities. Educators and healthcare professionals, through collaborative efforts, could influence schooling by improving access and care for children living with HIV.

To explore the perceptions of educators and healthcare workers on schooling for children living with HIV in a semi-rural community in South Africa.

Semi-structured interviews were held, with eight healthcare workers and eight educators, adopting an explorative qualitative approach. Data from the interviews were transcribed and analysed using content analysis.

Four overarching themes were identified the influence of living with HIV on school readiness and progression; stakeholder support practices to enhchooling.Newborn screening for congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) caused by 21-hydroxylase deficiency is mandated throughout the US. Filter paper blood specimens are assayed for 17-hydroxyprogesterone (17OHP). Prematurity, low birth weight, or critical illness cause falsely elevated results. The purpose of this report is to highlight differences in protocols among US state laboratories. We circulated a survey to state laboratory directors requesting qualitative and quantitative information about individual screening programs. Qualitative and quantitative information provided by 17 state programs were available for analysis. Disease prevalence ranged from 19941 to 128,661 live births. Four state laboratories mandated a second screen regardless of the initial screening results; most others did so for infants in intensive care units. All but one program utilized birthweight cut-points, but cutoffs varied widely 17OHP values of 25 to 75 ng/mL for birthweights >2250-2500 g. The positive predictive values for normal birthweight infants varied from 0.7% to 50%, with the highest predictive values based in two of the states with a mandatory second screen. Data were unavailable for negative predictive values. These data imply differences in sensitivity and specificity in CAH screening in the US. Standardization of newborn screening protocols could improve the positive predictive value.Tyrosinemia type 1 (TT1) is an inborn error of tyrosine metabolism with features including liver dysfunction, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma; renal dysfunction that may lead to failure to thrive and bone disease; and porphyric crises. this website Once fatal in most infantile-onset cases, pre-symptomatic diagnosis through newborn screening (NBS) protocols, dietary management, and pharmacotherapy with nitisinone have improved outcomes. Succinylacetone provides a sensitive and specific marker for the detection of TT1 but is not universally utilized in screening protocols for the disease. Here, we report an infant transferred to our facility for evaluation and management of hyperinsulinism who subsequently developed acute-onset liver, respiratory, and renal failure around one month of life. She was found to have TT1 caused by novel pathogenic variant in fumarylacetoacetate hydrolase (c.1014 delC, p.Cys 338 Ter). Her NBS, which utilized tyrosine as a primary marker, had been reported as normal, with a tyrosine level of 151 μmol/L (reference less then 280 μmol/L). Retrospective analysis of dried blood spot samples via tandem mass spectrometry showed detectable succinylacetone ranging 4.65-10.34 μmol/L. To our knowledge, this is the first patient with TT1 whose initial presenting symptom was hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia. The case highlights the importance of maintaining a high suspicion for metabolic disease in critically ill children, despite normal NBS. We also use the case to advocate for NBS for TT1 using succinylacetone quantitation.Diabetic retinopathy is one of the worst complications of diabetes and it is treated by invasive method. We prepared a surface modified poly (D, L-lactide-co-glycolide) i.e. PLGA nanoparticles for delivery of pioglitazone-a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma agonist to posterior segment of the eye by topical administration. The present study investigated two grades of PLGA viz. 7525 and 5050. Surface modification was performed using polysorbate 80. Nanoparticles were prepared by single emulsion solvent evaporation method and optimized by using 3-factor 3-level Box-Behnken statistical design. Mean particle size, PDI and entrapment efficiency for optimized batch of PLGA 7525 was found to be 163.23 nm, 0.286 and 91%, whereas; for PLGA 5050 it was 171.7 nm, 0.280 and 93% respectively. DSC confirms the molecular dispersion of drug in polymer. In vitro release study showed biphasic drug release pattern with 58.48 ± 1.38% and 74.17 ± 1.38% cumulative drug release by PLGA 7525 and 5050 nanoparticles at the end of 10h. The release profile of pioglitazone from nanoparticles appeared to fit best with Higuchi model. In vivo study on rat showed dose dependent reduction in vascular endothelial growth factor concentration in vitreous fluid. The study reveals significance of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma in management of diabetic retinopathy.
Childhood cancer is a major challenge for parapets. Parents are one of the main sources of emotional support for their child, but their ability to provide proper care during their child's illness and treatment depends entirely on the way they manage to cope with diagnosis and its outcomes. Parents' coping pattern seems to be affected by their perception of themselves or their surroundings.

To investigate parents' coping strategies with childhood cancer and its relation with self-construal.

A total of 127 eligible parents participated in this descriptive correlational study.

Medical, social support, and family strategies were respectively helpful for parents. The interdependent self-construal score was higher than the independent self-construal score. A significant relationship was found between interdependent self-construal and social support (
= .01).

It seems that individualists and collectivists' cultural context influence the usefulness of coping strategies. These differences should be considered in training of coping strategies.

Since falls after total hip arthroplasty (THA) cause severe complications such as dislocation and fractures around the femoral stem, it is important to investigate what factors predict of falls. Thus, investigating predictors of falls in patients waiting for THA would be valuable as it lead to more strategic interventions to prevent these problems. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the predictors of falls in patients during the first year after THA.

This is a prospective cohort study. A total of 157 patients who underwent THA for unilateral hip osteoarthritis were analyzed. The incidence of falls during the first year after THA was monitored, and patients were classified into a "faller" and "non-faller" group. The following factors were compared between the two groups demographic data (age, sex, body mass index, leg length discrepancy, length of hospital stay, and history of falling), preoperative hip abductor muscle strength, functional performance (single leg stance and maximum walking speed), pain during walking, and physical activity.

On multivariate logistic regression analysis, preoperative hip abductor muscle strength on the affected side and a history of falling were predictors of falls during the first year after THA. On subsequent receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, preoperative hip abductor muscle strength on the affected side was retained as a significant predictor, with a cut-off strength of 0.46 Nm/kg differentiating the faller and non-faller groups with a specificity of 73.6%, specificity of 50.0%, and area under the curve of 70.2%.

Finding from the present study suggested that clinicians should focus on low preoperative hip abductor muscle strength on the affected side and a history of falling to prevent falls during the first year after THA.
