Guidelines of CHEST 2016 recommend NOACs for VTE treatment in no cancer patients, and Low Molecular Weight Heparin (LMWH) for cancer patients. Ruboxistaurin ISTH suggest NOACs as the first option in VTE cancer patients with low risk of bleeding. A recent RCT shews no benefit and increased risk of vascular events in APS patients treated with NOACs. NOACs are the gold standard for VTE treatment and secondary prevention in no cancer patients. They could be the first option in cancer patients with low risk of bleeding.Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is a prevalent condition that predisposes the patients to major cardiovascular events. The majority of patients are asymptomatic, however PAD has a great impact in the patients' lifestyle due to its chronic nature. The Peripheral Arterial Questionnaire (PAQ) is a validated tool to quantify the patients' subjective experience of the disease. The aim of this work is to validate the Portuguese version of PAQ. A retrospective study of 59 patients with aortoiliac disease Trans-Atlantic Inter Society Consensus (TASC) type D from two centers in Portugal was conducted. Only 36 patients were able to answer the PAQ and two Portuguese validated questionnaires - a disease-specific (Walk Impairment Questionnaire - WIQ) and a generic one (EuroQol 5 dimensions - 5 level EQ5D-5L). Con- vergent validity of the PAQ was evaluated by correlating the extracted PAQ subscales and Summary score with the WIQ subscales and summary score, as with EQ5D-5L Summary score and EQ5D-5L index by calculating the covariance. The Portuguese version of the peripheral artery questionnaire presented a Cronbach's α for the Summary scale of 0.913. Mean inter-item correlation for the Physical Function domain was 0.471, 0.551 for the Perceived Disability, and 0.464 for Treat- ment Satisfaction. In summary, the Portuguese version of PAQ demonstrated a good level of discrimination between patients with or without symptomatic PAD and its severity and was sensitive to the presence of risk-factors relevant for PAD.We report a rare case of an advanced stage thymoma with right superior pulmonary lobe, superior vena cava, innominate vein and pericardium invasion in a patient with Good's syndrome. In a multidisciplinary discussion, surgical resection was deemed the best initial approach, since invaded structures could be safely managed. The tumor was fully resected and included partial resection of the superior pulmonary lobe, superior vena cava and innominate vein. The encircled right phrenic nerve was dissected from the tumor and preserved. The superior vena cava and innominate vein were reconstructed using autologous pericardium patch. Immunoglobulin replacement and radiotherapy were initiated afterwards. No signs of relapse at 6 months follow-up. In such advanced cases, aggressive surgical intervention should be considered as first line of treatment, as long as full resection can be anticipated, since complete resection is the leading factor for long-term prognosis.Dysentery has been a major illness for a long time in our country. During Korean war, bacillary dysentery was common illness as well as other infectious diseases such as typhus fever, and Shigella flexneri occupied more than 90% of the cases reported by UN forces. After the war, the Korean National Institute of Health began to monitor the disease as a legal communicable disease. The incidence of dysentery decreased gradually from 1960 through 1980s and consistently low until 1997, and common serotype has changed from S. flexneri to S. sonnei. However, a nationwide epidemic of dysentery occurred at 1998, peaking at 2,462 cases in 2000, and continued until 2004. Most cases were S. sonnei, but the proportion of S. flexneri existed changing with time. There were several major epidemic cases during the period, and the dysentery outbreaks in 1998 and 1999 were associated with nationwide school meal provision which began in 1998. According to the region, Juju island particularly showed a high incidence rate in the period. Since 2005, the nationwide dysentery epidemic was over and incidence of dysentery remained stably low. Recently, multi-drug resistant Shigella infection imported from Southeast Asia appeared, and it requires continuous monitoring and control. The measles control policies were also implemented to help achieve the goal of eliminating measles after the catch-up vaccination and they can be summarized as strategies for classifying measles patients based on their clinical symptoms while anticipating that weaker symptoms than those in typical cases would be seen; improving the operation of laboratories to world-class level for diagnosis of measles and identification of epidemiological circumstances for strengthen the detection of patients suspected of having measles; and immediate response through a rapid reporting system. With these efforts, Korea became the country to make the declaration of measles elimination by complying with all standards presented by the World Health Organization in 2006, re-verified in 2014. However, sporadic outbreaks of measles have repeatedly occurred even after the declaration of measles elimination. This indicates the need for continued control of imported cases and possible re-outbreaks. Also, it will be necessary to find and implement measures to continuously maintain the policy. This study was performed to investigate the colonization rate, antibiotic susceptibility, and serotype of GBS among Saudi pregnant women. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this cross-sectional study, vagino-rectal swabs from 400 pregnant women were collected over a period of one year. Identification of GBS isolates and determination of their antibiotic susceptibility were performed using the Microscan Walk Away system. The isolates were then typed using both latex agglutination and capsular gene-based multiplex polymerase chain reaction assays. RESULTS Sixty (15.0%) subjects were colonized by GBS, with serotype Ia as the dominant type (30.0%) followed by serotype III and V (25.0%, each). Only 43 (71.7%) isolates were typed by latex agglutination, whereas the remaining isolates were not typable or were non-specifically typed as compared to the genotyping assay, which revealed the specific type of each GBS isolate.
