While the formation of ionic colloids promoted biomineralization on bacterial surfaces. This study provides a novel insight into biomineralization as well as biomineralization-based techniques with biological stabilizers for producing biominerals.Herein, cuprous oxide (Cu2O) micro-nano cubes were successfully synthesized via a seed-medium process. It is worth noting that the microcubes were formed by oriented self-assembly of 2 × 2 × 2 nanocubes. The oriented self-assembly process can be effective controlled by simply adjusting the concentration of reactants. What's more, the obtained samples were applied for non-enzymatic glucose detection and exhibited excellent performance. The Cu2O nanocubes obtained at the highest concentration exhibited the highest sensitivity (2864 μAmM-1cm-2), while the Cu2O microcubes obtained at the lowest concentration shared the widest linear range (up to 10.65 mM) and lowest limit of detection (LOD, 0.87 μΜ). The acceptable anti-interference ability, excellent stability together with the practical application ability make our obtained electrodes a new strategy for monitoring glucose in biological and food samples. The surface chemistry of the inverse electron-demand Diels-Alder (IEDDA) reaction at the air-water interface is elucidated. Tetrazine (C18-Tz) and norbornene derivatives (C16-NCA) were used as the reactants. Langmuir monolayers of C18-Tz, C16-NCA, and their binary mixtures were prepared on aqueous substrates. The surface properties were analyzed using the surface pressure (π)-molecular area (A) and surface potential (ΔV)-A isotherms, as well as fluorescence microscopy to monitor the progress of the reaction. First, to provide comparison data to evaluate the reaction on the surface, the two components were mixed in stock solutions of organic solvents for the IEDDA reaction. The Langmuir monolayer spread from the reaction solution was characterized as a function of the reaction time. In the subsequent experiments, the Langmuir monolayers were deposited onto the surface of the substrate solutions by spreading from separate stock solutions of C18-Tz and C16-NCA. The variation of the surface behavior of the monolayers with the molecular area, surface composition of the two components, compression speed of the monolayers, and the temperature was studied. We discuss the effects of the air phase in the reaction field on the reaction efficiency by comparing the results obtained from the two methods.
Promoter is a component of the gene, which can specifically bind with RNA polymerase and determine where transcription starts, and also determine the transcription efficiency of the gene. Promoters can be divided into strong promoters and weak promoters because their structures and the interaction time interval are quite different. The functional variation of the promoter can lead to a variety of diseases. Therefore, identifying promoters and their strength is necessary and has important biological significance. A novel and promising model based on deep learning is proposed to achieve it.

In this work, we build a power model named iPro-GAN for identification of promoters and their strength. First, we collect benchmark datasets and independent datasets for training and testing. Then, Moran-based spatial auto-cross correlation method is used as feature extraction method. GSK2982772 Finally, deep convolution generative adversarial network with 10-fold cross validation is applied for classifying. The first layer of the model is used to identify the promoter and the second layer is used to determine its type.

On the benchmark data set, the accuracy of the first layer predictor is 93.15%, and the accuracy of the second layer predictor is 92.30%. On the independent data set, the accuracy of the first layer predictor is 86.77%, and the accuracy of the second layer predictor is 91.66%. In particular, breakthrough progress has been made in the identification of promoters' strength.

These results are far higher than the existing best predictor, which indicate that our model is serviceable and practicable to identify promoters and their strength. Furthermore, the datasets and source codes are available from this link https//github.com/Bovbene/iPro-GAN.

The Young's modulus of the tympanic membrane (TM) is an important modeling parameter in computer simulations of the sound transmission in the ear. Understanding the material mechanics of the TM is essential to improve the coupling between the tympanic membrane and the auditory ossicles. However, the impact of the age-related Young's modulus of the TM on sound transmission is not well known. The objective of this study was to use a comprehensive finite element (FE) model to assess the impact of Young's modulus on sound transmission from the ear canal to the stapes footplate over acoustic frequencies.

The FE model of the ear canal, the middle ear, and the inner ear, was constructed. The model was constructed with identical geometries and boundary conditions, but with three different Young's moduli for the TMs. The auditory ossicles, suspensory ligaments and tendons, and manubrium were also modeled as isotropic elastic materials. Beside, we evaluated the age-related Young's moduli of the TMs on sound transmission with the FE element fluid-structural interaction (FSI) model under acoustic loading conditions.

The impact of the age-related Young's moduli on the sound pressure distributions in the ear canal was significant over two frequency ranges of 1.4-3.2 and 8.6-10kHz. Meanwhile, the significant differences of the displacement of the stapes occurred at around 1.6kHz, where the displacement of the stapes decreased from 0.352nm to 0.287nm.

The FSI model could demonstrate the influence of Young's modulus of the TM on the transfer of sound-induced vibrations form the ear canal to the stapes footplate. The FE model may provide appropriate information to the medical device development of artificial ossicles and hearing aids.

Historically, SARS-CoV-2 follows SARS and MERS as the third coronavirus spreading across borders and continents, but far more dangerous with long-lasting symptomatic consequences. The current situation is strong evidence that coronaviruses will continue to be pathogens of consequence in the future, thus calling for the development of neutralizing antibody-based prophylactics and therapeutics for prevention and treatment of COVID-19 and other human coronavirus diseases. This review summarized the progresses of developing neutralizing monoclonal antibodies against infection of SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV, and MERS-CoV, and discussed their potential applications in prevention and treatment of COVID-19 and other human coronavirus diseases.Antioxidant nanoparticles include the potential for improving sperm cryopreservation. The aim of performing this study was to evaluate the effects of gamma-oryzanol (GO) at 0 (C) (control group), 20 (GO20), 40 (GO40), 60 (GO60), 80 (GO80), and 100 (GO100) µM and gamma-oryzanol nanoparticles (GON) at 0 (CN), 20 (GON20), 40 (GON40), 60 (GO60), 80 (GON80), and 100 (GON100) µM on post-thawed sperm quality and fertility of rooster sperm. Sperm motility, plasma membrane integrity, total abnormality, mitochondrial activity (Rhodamine 123), apoptotic features (Annexin V/Propidium iodide), reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, ATP content and the fertility and hatchability were evaluated after thawing. Total motility in GON60 and GON80 were significantly higher compared to control groups (C and CN). GON80 showed the greatest percentages of progressive motilities. When GO80, GON60, and GON80 were added to the cryopreservation medium, the plasma membrane functionality of the semen samples improved. The minimum abnormality of spermatozoa is observed in the group treated with GON80. The groups treated with GON60 and GON80 had greater (P less then 0.05) mitochondrial activity. The level of sperm ROS after cryopreservation was significantly lower in GON60 and GON80 groups. Live sperm was significantly higher (P less then 0.05) in GON60 and GON80 group compared to other groups. GON60 and GON80 groups also led to the lowest significant percentage of apoptosis-like change sperm. Greater fertility percentages were observed (P less then 0.05) when sperm were stored in extenders treated with GON60 and GON80. GON80 resulted in significantly improved hatched eggs compared to C, GO60, GO180 and CN. In conclusion, supplementation of Lake extender with 60 and 80 µM gamma-oryzanol nanoparticles could be a proper process to improve freeze-thawing rooster sperm quality leading to better freeze/thaw characteristics.Clostridium perfringens-induced necrotic enteritis (NE) is an economically important disease of broiler chickens. The present study evaluated the effect of C. perfringens on the intestinal histomorphometry, enteric microbial colonization, and host immune responses using 3 experimental NE reproduction methods. The experimental groups consisted of 1) unchallenged Control diet (corn-soybean meal), 2) Control diet + Eimera inoculation at d 11 followed by C. perfringens challenge at d 15 (ECp), 3) Wheat-based diet + C. perfringens challenge (WCp), and 4) Wheat-based diet + Eimeria inoculation followed by C. perfringens challenge (WECp). The results showed that chickens receiving ECp and WECp had reduced (P less then 0.05) bird performance coupled with enteric gross lesions and epithelial damage at d 17 and 24 of age compared to unchallenged control birds. These ECp and WECp administered birds also had increased (P less then 0.05) ileal colonization by clostridia and E. coli at d 17 and 24, while the resident Lure C. perfringens research.
Optic neuritis (ON) is the most common manifestation of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody associated disorder (MOGAD) and multiple sclerosis (MS). Acute ON in MOGAD is thought to be associated with more severe optic disk edema than in other demyelinating diseases, but this has not been quantitatively confirmed. The goal of this study was to determine whether optical coherence tomography (OCT) can distinguish acute ON in MOGAD from MS, and establish the sensitivity of OCT as a confirmatory biomarker of ON in these entities.

This was a multicenter cross-sectional study of MOGAD and MS patients with peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) thickness measured with OCT within two weeks of acute ON symptom. Cirrus HD-OCT (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc. Dublin, CA, USA) was used to measure the pRNFL during acute ON. Eyes with prior ON or disk pallor were excluded. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to assess the ability of pRNFL thickness to distinguish MOGAD from MS.
