Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are used as an emerging new option for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, their efficacy remains controversial across studies with different doses of MSCs and cell processing methods. We conducted this meta-analysis to assess the efficacy of MSCs in the treatment of knee OA.

Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, SinoMed (Chinese BioMedical Literature Service System, China), and CNKI (National Knowledge Infrastructure, China) databases were systematically reviewed. The pain level and function improvements were evaluated using visual analog scale (VAS), McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), and International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC). The pooled estimate was calculated with weighted mean difference (WMD) with 95% confidence intervals (95%CIs).

Nine RCTs involving 476 patients were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled estimate showed that the treatment of MSCs significantly reduced VAS, WOMAC pain, WOMAC stiffness, and WOMAC function scores at a long-term follow-up (12 or 24 months). However, for the IKDC and WOMAC total scores, MSCs also showed significant improvement in these outcomes, although this was not statistically significant when compared to the control.

Based on the current studies, our results suggested that MSCs were a promising option for the treatment of patients with knee OA. find more However, considering the potential limitations, more well-performed, large-scale RCTs are needed to verify our findings.

Rett syndrome (RS) is a severe neurodevelopmental disorder for which there is no approved therapy. This study aimed to assess safety and efficacy of oral fingolimod in children with RS using a pre-post and case-control design.

At the University of Basel Children's Hospital, Basel, Switzerland, children with RS were included if they were older than 6years and met the established diagnostic criteria of RS, including a positive MeCP2 mutation. Participants were observed 6months before and after treatment and received 12months of fingolimod treatment. Serum samples of 50 children without RS served as reference for brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) measurements. Primary outcome measures were safety and efficacy, the latter measured by change in levels of BDNF in serum/CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) and change in deep gray matter volumes measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Secondary outcome measure was efficacy measured by change in clinical scores [Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scale (VABS), Rett Sevmaging measures. CSF BDNF levels were associated with clinical scores, indicating a need to further evaluate its potential as a biomarker for RS. This finding should be further validated in independent patient groups.

MEN1 is a complex, rare, syndrome inherited in an autosomal dominant tract and characterized by the development of multiple neuroendocrine tumors, requiring lifelong surveillance and multiple medical and surgical therapies throughout the patient's life. For all these reasons, a diagnosis of MEN1 can be a psychological shock for the patient, as well as his/her relatives, more so than the diagnosis of a single tumor. In the last two decades, clinicians have started to consider the emotional, psychological, relational, and social aspects of their patients' lives. The data collected in the present analyses highlight the unique features of MEN1 syndrome, and aim to evaluate the Quality of Life in the patients and their relatives. In this study, a comprehensive survey of various aspects of Health-Related Quality of Life was performed in a large series of Italian MEN1 patients, by administering five of the most common targeted questionnaires.

A large number of studies have shown that BIMA grafting is superior to single internal mammary artery grafting in cardiac function protection and long-term survival after surgery. While, there is still no consensus on how is the best configuration to use BIMA. This study aims to compare intraoperative blood flow, early clinical results and early postoperative patency of different configurations of BIMA.

There were 74 patients who underwent CABGs with bilateral internal mammary artery with different configurations we included. According to the different target territories that RIMA grafted to, the patients were divided into bilateral group (group I) with 20 cases and left group (group II) with 54 cases. Intraoperative blood flow, early clinical results and early postoperative patency of different configurations of BIMA were compared.

There was no difference in the early postoperative death and major complications between group I and Group II(P>0.05). Compared with the LIMA in group II, the LIMA in grortery received more satisfactory graft flow. With the advancement of diagnostic methods and treatment techniques, more cases of cardiac lipomas have been reported and suggest that the entity previously widely thought to display classic features may also show atypical findings. A systemic review of the rare cardiac tumor was done by searching the literature of cardiac lipoma. We endeavor to summarize the clinical features of the rare disease from pathogenesis to treatment. Literature of cardiac lipoma was retrospectively searched through PubMed and 255 cases of cardiac lipoma were included into this analysis. Cardiac lipomas can occur anywhere within the heart, 53.1% were located within the cardiac chambers, 32.5% in the pericardium, 10,7% within the myocardium and 3.7% involved multiple structures. More than half of the reported cardiac lipomas (66%) may be clinically symptomatic, presenting with symptoms ranging from chest discomfort to syncope depending on their size and location as well as extent of myocardial involvement.
