Three focus group discussions (FGDs) were held with 18 women who had taken part in an EBSA program between 2015 and 2017, to explore their perceptions and to identify the facilitators and barriers they faced in implementing and sustaining dietary changes. Thematic analysis of the focus groups was conducted using NVivo 12 software. Women reported that they decided to enroll in the program because they suffered from NCDs. Most women said that the EBSA diet made them feel less hungry, more energetic and they felt that their health had improved. Most women spoke of socioeconomic challenges which made it difficult for them to follow EBSA's recommendations, such as employment status, safety issues in the community, and lack of support from relatives and doctors. Hence, women felt they needed more support from EBSA after the program. The social determinants that affected these women's ability to change their health behavior are also NCD risk factors, and these should be assessed to improve the program for other communities.The growing worldwide epidemic of obesity and associated metabolic health comorbidities has resulted in an urgent need for safe and efficient nutritional solutions. The research linking obesity with gut microbiota dysbiosis has led to a hypothesis that certain bacterial strains could serve as probiotics helping in weight management and metabolic health. In the search for such strains, the effect of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis 420 (B420) on gut microbiota and metabolic health, and the mechanisms of actions, has been investigated in a variety of in vitro, pre-clinical, and clinical studies. In this review, we aim to highlight the research on B420 related to obesity, metabolic health, and the microbiota. Current research supports the hypothesis that gut dysbiosis leads to an imbalance in the inflammatory processes and loss of epithelial integrity. Bacterial components, like endotoxins, that leak out of the gut can invoke low-grade, chronic, and systemic inflammation. The calculation speed of a digital computer is not fast enough to calculate the virtual cantilever's dynamics because the natural frequency of the microcantilver is much higher than that of the macrocantilever. Therefore, we use an analog circuit instead of a digital computer to achieve virtual coupling with the virtual cantilever. The proposed system enables us to tune the virtual cantilever's parameters to satisfy both requirements for high sensitivity by changing the analog circuit parameters. We verified experimentally that the proposed system achieved high sensitivity for mass sensing of the order of nanograms.While TiO2 nanoparticles have shown potential as photocatalysts in the degradation of organic contaminants, their inability to absorb efficiently visible light has limited their industrial application. One strategy for solving this problem is monodoping TiO2 photocatalysts with transition metals, which has worked in the degradation of several pollutants. However, it is not clear if this improvement is enough to offset the potential environmental impacts of adding metal ions to the synthesis of TiO2. Herein, we have used Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to determine the sustainability of monodoping TiO2 with transition metals (Fe, Co, Mn and Ni, with a 1% weight ratio) to enhance the photocatalytic properties of the photocatalyst toward the degradation of Carbamazepine and Methyl Orange, under UV-A and visible light irradiation. We found that the addition of transition-metals has no significant effect on the environmental impacts associated with the synthesis of TiO2, when a weight-based functional unit was considered. However, when photocatalytic activity was considered, major differences were found. The observed changes indicated the biological activity of polyphenols and other components of the prepared cocoa beans extracts (CBEs). The presence of raw and roasted CBEs in the diets diversified the activity of the enzymes of the cecal microflora of rats. Both CBEs beneficially affect the antioxidant status of the serum, even in relation to the control standard group. This study aims to further investigate and quantify the influence of fiber deviation in two dimension and different hierarchical levels on the tensile strength of thin birch veneers. The fiber deviation in- and out-of-plane as well as the micro fibril angle were assessed by means of wide-angle X-ray scattering. Tensile strength was determined in laboratory experiments. Results show a high variability for in-plane fiber deviation mainly constituted by knots and other growth influencing factors. Pearson correlations between strength and fiber deviation ranged from -0.594 up to -0.852. Best correlation (r = -0.852) was achieved for maximum in-plane fiber deviation directly followed by a combined angle of in- and out-of-plane fiber deviation (r = -0.846). Based on the results it was shown that fiber deviation in- and out-of-plane is the dominating factor influencing ultimate tensile strength of thin birch veneers. Further research in regard to non-destructive strength prediction is necessary.Two xerogels made of 4-pyridyl cholesterol (PC) and silver-nanocomposites (SNCs) thereof have been studied for their efficient reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) in the presence of aqueous sodium borohydride. Since in-situ silver doping will be effective in ethanol and acetone solvents with a PC gelator, two silver-loaded PC xerogels were prepared and successive SNCs were achieved by using an environmentally benign trisodium citrate dehydrate reducing agent. The formed PC xerogels and their SNCs were comprehensively investigated using different physico-chemical techniques, such as field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), powdered X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-Visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis). The FE-SEM results confirm that the shape of xerogel-covered silver nanoparticles (SNPs) are roughly spherical, with an average size in the range of 30-80 nm. Thermal degradation studies were analyzed via the sensitive graphical Broido's method using a TGA technique. Both SNC-PC (SNC-PC-X1 and SNC-PC-X2) xerogels showed remarkable catalytic performances, with recyclable conversion efficiency of around 82% after the fourth consecutive run. With the speed and load increasing, oxides of the worn surfaces of 18Ni(300) maraging steel change from FeO to Fe3O4 and the wear mechanism converts from adhesive wear into severe oxidative or extrusion wear.This work aims at fabricating 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-loaded poly (lactic-co-glycolic) acid nanoparticles (PLGA NPs) using a microfluidic (MF) technique, with potential for use in colorectal cancer therapy. In order to achieve 5-FU-loaded NPs with an average diameter of approximately 119 nm, the parameters of MF process with fork-shaped patterns were adjusted as follows the ratio of polymer to drug solutions flow rates was equal to 10 and the solution concentrations of PLGA as carrier, 5-FU as anti-cancer drug and poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as surfactant were 0.2 (% w/v), 0.01 (% w/v) and 0.15 (% w/v), respectively.
