Any specific route for flavivirus structures reveals crucial bank account factors maintained over pathogenic infections.
Fluoxetine (FLX), an emerging pollutant, has been detected in the sewage and excess sludge (ES) at substantial levels. So far, however, the impacts of FLX on the ES anaerobic digestion and the related mechanisms have never been investigated. In this work, the effects of FLX on the ES anaerobic digestion were explored by the batch test under moderate temperature condition. The results indicated the effect of FLX on ES digestion was dose-dependent. When FLX was at a low dose (0.1 mg/kg), FLX had no significant impact on the methane generation from the ES digestion. However, when FLX was 2.0 mg/kg, the cumulative methane production was only 91.2 ± 4.3 mL/g volatile suspended solids (VSS), which was about 59.9 ± 3.4% of the blank (without FLX). Mechanisms revealed that the presence of FLX has inhibited hydrolysis, acidification and methanogenesis. Enzyme activity analysis showed that FLX inhibited the activities of key enzymes in the process of hydrolysis, acidification and methanogenesis. The results of this work are of great significance to explain the role of FLX in the process of ES fermentation, and provide some reference for the subsequent utilization of ES.Heavy metals are widespread toxic environmental pollutants that can generate enormous health and public concern. Iron (oxyhydr)oxides are ubiquitous in both natural and engineered environments and have great retention capacity of heavy metals due to their high surface areas and reactivity. The sequestration of heavy metal by iron (oxyhydr)oxides is one of the most vital geochemical/chemical processes controlling their environmental fate, transport, and bioavailability. In this review, some of the common iron (oxyhydr)oxides are introduced in detail in terms of their formation, occurrence, structure characteristics and interaction with heavy metals. Moreover, the retention mechanisms of metal cations (e.g., Pb, Cu, Cd, Ni, Zn), metal oxyanions (e.g., As, Sb, Cr), and coexisting multiple metals on various iron (oxyhydr)oxides are fully reviewed. Principal mechanisms of surface complexation, surface precipitation and structural incorporation are responsible for heavy metal retention on iron (oxyhydr)oxides, and greatly dependent on mineral species, metal ion species, reacting conditions (i.e., pH, heavy metal concentration, ionic strength, etc.) and chemical process (i.e., adsorption, coprecipitaton and mineral phase transformation process). The retention mechanisms summarized in this review would be helpful for remediating heavy metal contamination and predicting the long-term behavior of heavy metal in natural and engineered environments.Coking chemical industry associated with high energy consumption and high pollution emits significant amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to atmosphere, but is often ignored. This article reports a new study on emissions of VOCs from a typical coking chemical plant. Results show that about 70 species of VOCs including alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aromatic hydrocarbons, halogenated hydrocarbons and oxygenates are detected, naphthalene and benzene could be used as the emission markers. Compared to coking stage, gas purifying stage is found to have 4 times more total concentrations of VOCs, in which condensing and blasting process is found to be the largest contributor with 77% ozone formation potential (OFP) contribution. Emission control measures currently used are insufficient and inefficient to reduce VOCs to meet regulatory emission standards. Further, by using a proposed integrated emission factor of 2.652 g/kg coke, the coking chemical industry in China was estimated to account for about 7.8-20% of total historical industrial VOCs emissions, and about 1241 Gg of VOCs were emitted in 2019. A large proportion is emitted from the northern China with a distinctive spatial distribution. MAP4K inhibitor Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong, and Shannxi provinces are the top four emitters. It is suggested that more stringent and efficient measures should be taken on the coking chemical industry, not just on the coking processes, but also on the gas purifying processes. The growing evidence of microplastic pollution in terrestrial ecosystems reveals adverse effects of microplastics on soil biota and plant growth. However, since large scale assessments are lacking, it is possible that the laboratory based experiments conducted have assumed unrealistic microplastic concentrations in soils. In this paper we present regional scale data on the presence of microplastics in soils under different land uses in the central valley of Chile, which is characterized by urbanization, agricultural, and mining operations. We identified microplastics in soils under four different land use systems having different management intensities (crop lands, pastures, rangelands, and natural grasslands), and all somewhat prone to accumulate microplastics from different sources. We analyzed 240 soil samples from Chile's central valley, trying to identify the most probable sources of the microplastics. Our hypothesis was that microplastics were ubiquitous in the environment and that their concentration peaks follow the intensity of fertilizer use (phosphorus), soil heavy metals concentrations derived from nearby mining operations (Zn and Cu), and distance to roads and urban areas. We did find evidence of microplastic pollution in crop lands and pastures (306 ± 360 and 184 ± 266 particles kg-1, respectively), but we did not observe pollution of rangelands and natural grasslands. Distance to mining operations, roads, or urban areas did not increase the microplastic particles count. Our observations contradict the common belief that microplastics are ubiquitous in the environment and relate the pollution problem more to agricultural activities. However, our data do not provide sufficient evidence to identify the pollution source. This is the first study that reports on microplastic occurrence in soils at a broad geographical scale. For greater insight on this topic more studies that contribute monitoring data about microplastics in soils are urgently needed. In the traditional water quality assessment, the concentration of total dissolved hydrophobic organic compounds (HOCs) passing through 0.45 μm filter membranes is usually used to evaluate the influence of HOCs on water quality. However, the bioavailability of dissolved organic matter (DOM)-associated and particle-associated HOCs is not considered. In the present work, pyrene, fulvic acid, and natural suspended particles (SPS) were used to simulate natural water (raw water). The immobilization and pyrene content in the tissues of D. magna caused by total pyrene in the raw water and those caused by freely dissolved pyrene with the concentration equal to the total dissolved pyrene in the filtrate of raw water were compared to determine whether the total dissolved pyrene concentration can reflect the water quality. The results indicated that when the DOM concentration was 5 mg C L-1 and the SPS concentration was higher than 0.2-0.4 g L-1, the bioavailability of pyrene was underestimated by the traditional water quality assessment because of the SPS-associated pyrene, and it was underestimated by 23.
