The maximum content of recovered lutein was found to be 2.79 mg/mL, and the ABTS radical scavenging activity (IC50) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) value were about 3.36 mg/mL and 561.9 μmol/L, respectively. Finally, the maximum lutein recovery from T. suecica through statistical optimization was estimated to be 22.3 mg/g biomass, which was 3.1-fold improved compared to the control group.In large bowel investigations using endoscopic capsules and upon detection of significant findings, physicians require the location of those findings for a follow-up therapeutic colonoscopy. To cater to this need, we propose a model based on tracking feature points in consecutive frames of videos retrieved from colon capsule endoscopy investigations. By locally approximating the colon as a cylinder, we obtained both the displacement and the orientation of the capsule using geometrical assumptions and by setting priors on both physical properties of the intestine and the image sample frequency of the endoscopic capsule. Our proposed model tracks a colon capsule endoscope through the large intestine for different prior selections. A discussion on validating the findings in terms of intra and inter capsule and expert panel validation is provided. The performance of the model is evaluated based on the average difference in multiple reconstructed capsule's paths through the large intestine. The path difference averaged over all videos was as low as 4±0.7 cm, with min and max error corresponding to 1.2 and 6.0 cm, respectively. The inter comparison addresses frame classification for the rectum, descending and sigmoid, splenic flexure, transverse, hepatic, and ascending, with an average accuracy of 86%.A graphene sample (EGr) was prepared by electrochemical exfoliation of graphite rods in solution containing 0.05 M (NH4)2SO4 + 0.1 M H3BO3 + 0.05 M NaCl. The exfoliation was performed by applying a constant voltage (12 V) between the graphite rods, while the temperature was kept constant (18 °C) with a temperature-controlled cryostat. The structural investigation of the graphene sample, performed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), revealed that the sample consists of a mixture of few-layer (69%), multi-layer graphene (14%) and graphene oxide (17%). In addition, XPS analysis proved that the sample was triple-doped with heteroatoms such as nitrogen (1.7 at%), sulfur (2.5 at%), and boron (3 at%). In this paper, we report the development of a smart-ring-based CCD feedback device for CPR based on an inertial measurement unit, and propose a high-quality chest compression depth estimation algorithm that considers the orientation of the device. The performance of the proposed feedback system was evaluated by comparing it with a linear variable differential transformer in three CPR situations. The experimental results showed compression depth errors of 2.0 ± 1.1, 2.2 ± 0.9, and 1.4 ± 1.1 mm in the three situations. In addition, we conducted a pilot test with an adult/infant mannequin. The results of the experiments show that the proposed smart-ring-based CCD feedback system is applicable to various chest compression methods based on real CPR situations.

C-methionine (MET) is well established in the diagnostic work-up of malignant brain tumors. Texture analysis is a novel technique for extracting information regarding relationships among surrounding voxels, in order to quantify their inhomogeneity. This study evaluated whether the texture analysis of MET uptake has prognostic value for patients with glioma.

We retrospectively analyzed adults with glioma who had undergone preoperative metabolic imaging at a single center. Tumors were delineated using a threshold of 1.3-fold of the mean standardized uptake value for the contralateral cortex, and then processed to calculate the texture features in glioma.

The study included 42 patients (median age 56 years). The World Health Organization classifications were grade II (7 patients), grade III (17 patients), and grade IV (18 patients). Sixteen (16.1%) all-cause deaths were recorded during the median follow-up of 18.8 months. The univariate analyses revealed that overall survival (OS) was associated with age (hazard ratio (HR) 1.04, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.01-1.08,
= 0.0093), tumor grade (HR 3.64, 95% CI 1.63-9.63,
= 0.0010), genetic status (

The current diagnosis with Gram stain (Nugent Score) identifies a transitional stage named partial BV or intermediate microbiota, raising the problem of how to clinically handle it. We retrospectively analyzed cervicovaginal swabs from 985 immunocompetent non-pregnant symptomaticspp. women (vaginal discharge, burning, itching) by Nugent score and qPCR for BV, aerobic or fungal vaginitis, and STIs (Mycoplasmas spp., Chlamydia t., Trichomonas v., and Neisseria g.). Nugent scores 0-3 and 7-10 were confirmed in 99.3% and 89.7% cases, respectively, by qPCR. Among Nugent scores 4-6 (partial BV), qPCR identified 46.1% of BV cases, with 37.3% of cases negative for BV, and only 16.7% of partial BV. Gram staining and qPCR were discordant (p value = 0.0001) mainly in the partial BV.
