A virtual symposium on the topic was convened from Duke University on October 26, 2020, and was attended by more than 170 participants worldwide. This review focuses on new clinical data involving a novel class of drugs, nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (NS-MRAs), specifically, finerenone and its effects on cardiovascular and diabetic kidney disease outcomes.

NS-MRAs are a novel class of agents for treating diabetic kidney disease (DKD). While they are chemically and pharmacologically distinct from steroidal MRAs (spironolactone, eplerenone), they effectively inhibit the MR receptor differently. Inhibition of MR receptor activation reduces inflammatory and profibrotic pathways involving the cardiorenal/vascular systems. Small diabetic kidney disease (DKD) clinical studies demonstrate that steroidal MRAs reduce albuminuria relative to placebo, although hyperkalemia is a major adverse event that has precluded large outcome trials. The NS-MRA, finerenone, demonstrated slowed progression of DKD and reduction of cardiovascular death primarily driven by reduced heart failure incidence in two separate randomized controlled clinical triailure incidence in two separate randomized controlled clinical trials (FIDELIO and FIGARO). Use of NS-MRAs, therefore, provides a third "pillar of therapy" to reduce cardiorenal events added to blockers of the renin-angiotensin system and SGLT2 inhibitors. The objective of this study was to determine which symptoms measured by the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) improve in those treated with esketamine nasal spray in combination with oral antidepressant (AD) compared with those treated with placebo plus AD for adult patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD). These results complement the interpretation of PHQ-9 and MADRS total scores.

The TRANSFORM 2 study evaluated the efficacy and safety of esketamine nasal spray in combination with AD. This post-hoc analysis used PHQ-9 and MADRS data to evaluate symptom changes. The total scores change and proportions of individual item change scores on the PHQ-9 and MADRS were evaluated at days15 and 28; analysis of variance was used to test differences on total scores. Generalized estimation equations of logistic regression models were used to estimate the likelihood of improvement on instrument items.

This qualitative secondary data analysis sought to elucidate how Mexican patients and family members engaged in religious and spiritual practices to help alleviate patients' experiences of mental illness. link2 Three main findings are discussed (1) positive religious coping such as entrusting God with one's suffering, consejos (i.e., emotional support and advice giving), and positive social supports through religious communities; (2) negative religious coping such as harmful views of God as punishing; and (3) indigenous healing practices such as engagement with curanderos (medicine doctor) and limpias (i.e., herb-based cleanses). The authors discuss these findings in the context of tensions between culturally sanctioned healing and the perception of psychotherapeutic effectiveness reported by Mexican patients and their family members. The authors also provide future directions for incorporating patients' religious and spiritual practices into multiculturally competent treatment.
Home healthcare (HHC) provides continuous care for disabled patients. However, HHC referral after the emergency department (ED) discharge remains unclear. Thus, this study aimed its clarification.

A computer-assisted HHC referral by interdisciplinary collaboration among emergency physicians, case managers, nurse practitioners, geriatricians, and HHC nurses was built in a tertiary medical center in Taiwan. Patients who had HHC referrals after ED discharge between February 1, 2020 and September 31, 2020, were recruited into the study. A non-ED HHC cohort who had HHC referrals after hospitalization from the ED was also identified. Comparison for clinical characteristics and uses of medical resources was performed between ED HHC and non-ED HHC cohorts.

The model was successfully implemented. In total, 34 patients with ED HHC and 40 patients with non-ED HHC were recruited into the study. The female proportion was 61.8% and 67.5%, and the mean age was 81.5 and 83.7years in ED HHC and non-ED HHC cohorts, respectively. No significant difference was found in sex, age, underlying comorbidities, and ED diagnoses between the two cohorts. The ED HHC cohort had a lower median total medical expenditure within 3months (34,030.0 vs. 56,624.0 New Taiwan Dollars, p = 0.021) compared with the non-ED HHC cohort. Compared to the non-ED HHC cohort, the ED HHC cohort had a lower ≤ 1month ED visit, ≤ 6months ED visit, and ≤ 3months hospitalization; however, differences were not significant.

An innovative ED HHC model was successfully implemented. Further studies with more patients are warranted to investigate the impact.

Cognitive assessment in acute stroke is relevant for identifying patients at risk of persistent post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). Despite preliminary evidence on MoCA accuracy, there is no consensus on its optimal score in the acute stroke setting to predict PSCI.

(1) To explore whether the application of different normative datasets to MoCA scores obtained in the acute stroke setting results in variable frequency of patients defined as cognitively impaired; (2) to assess whether the normality cut-offs provided by three normative datasets predict PSCI at 6-9months; (3) to calculate alternative MoCA cut-offs able to predict PSCI.

Consecutive stroke patients were reassessed at 6-9months with extensive neuropsychological and functional batteries for PSCI determination.

Out of 207 enrolled patients, 118 (57%) were followed-up (mean 7.4 ± 1.7months), and 77 of them (65%) received a PSCI diagnosis. The application of the normality thresholds provided by the 3 normative datasets yielded to variable (from 28.5% to 41%) rates of patients having an impaired MoCA performance, and to an inadequate accuracy in predicting PSCI, maximizing specificity instead of sensitivity. In ROC analyses, a MoCA score of 22.82, adjusted according to the most recent normative dataset, achieved a good diagnostic accuracy in predicting PSCI.

Strains isolated from the bottom of the photic zone grow more rapidly at low irradiance compared to strains isolated from the uppermost layer of the mat, which conversely grow better at high irradiance. The LL-ecotypes develop far-red absorbance and fluorescence emission features after growth in LL. These isolates have a unique gene cluster that encodes a putative cyanobacteriochrome denoted LcyA, a putative sensor histidine kinase; an allophycocyanin (FRL-AP; ApcD4-ApcB3) that absorbs far-red light; and a putative chlorophyll a-binding protein, denoted IsiX, which is homologous to IsiA. This study evaluated whether patient support, administered via an electronic device-based app, increased adherence to treatment and lifestyle changes in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) treated with ticagrelor in routine clinical practice.

Patients (aged ≥ 18years) with diagnosed ACS treated with ticagrelor co-administered with low-dose acetylsalicylic acid were randomized into an active group (with support tool app for medication intake reminders and motivational messages) and a control group (without support tool app), and observed for 48weeks (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT02615704). Patients were asked to complete the 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) and Lifestyle Changes Questionnaire (LSQ), and were assessed for blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) at baseline (visit 1) and atthe end of the study (visit 2). Medication adherence was measured using the Brilique Adherence Questionnaire (BAQ).

Patients (N = 676) were randomized to an active (n = 342) or acontrol (n = 334) group. BAQ data were available for 174 patients in the active group and 174 patients in the control group. Over the 48-week period, mean (standard deviation) adherence for the active and control groups was 96.4% (13.2%) and 91.5% (23.1%), respectively (effect of app intervention, p < 0.05). There were no significant differences in blood pressure and BMI between visits. General improvements in SF-36 and LSQ scores were observed for both groups.

A little explored fluorescent core is chalcone. Herein, we synthesized chalcone (2E)-3-(4-(dimethylamino)phenyl)-1-phenylprop-2-en-1-one (8) and assessed its photophysical properties. Moreover, the application of this chemosensor in aqueous media shows a selective fluorescence quenching effect with Hg(II). The figures of merit for the chemosensor were calculated to be LOD = 136 nM and LOQ = 454 nM, as well as a stoichiometry of 11. Furthermore, the association constant (Ka) and fluorescence quenching constant (KSV) were calculated using the Benesi-Hildebrand and Stern-Volmer equations to be Ka= 9.08 × 104 and KSV= 1.60 × 105, respectively. On three occasions across two years, 441 Hong Kong parents of children with ASD provided questionnaire data. Path analyses showed that self-stigma content and process were associated with greater parenting stress, which was, in turn, associated with reduced parental warmth and increased parental hostility. Our findings reveal the longitudinal influences of self-stigma on parenting practices and demonstrate how these influences can be explained by parenting stress. Our findings also suggest the importance of supporting parents of children with ASD to mitigate self-stigma and associated parenting stress in improving their parenting practices.This study examined whether parent-reported atypical development in their child's first year was associated with age of diagnosis and age when parents first needed to consult a specialist about their child's development. It involved 423 children who participated in the Australian Autism Biobank. Most parents retrospectively identified ≥ 1 domain of atypical child development. Atypical development in most domains was associated with an earlier age when parents felt specialist consultation was needed. Atypical development in the "gaze abnormalities", "lack of response to social stimuli", and "no social communication" subdomains within the social domain was associated with an earlier age of diagnosis, as was atypical development in the "hypo/hypersensitivity" and "preoccupation with parts of objects" subdomains within the stereotyped/restricted behavior domain.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has a major impact on caregivers. We aimed to describe caregivers' perceptions concerning their level of knowledge about ASD and their needs to better adapt education and training programs.

This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted through a declarative and self-administered survey in France.

1,013 individuals answered the questionnaire in 2020. If most caregivers felt they had sufficient knowledge about ASD, they still expressed a high level of needs regarding acquiring knowledge, identifying available resources, and finding social/emotional support.

This study examined the effects of sleep disturbance on daytime functions (sleepiness, fatigue, mood, cognitive alertness), care-related quality of life, and daily parenting interactions in 20 mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder for 10 consecutive days using ecological momentary assessment design. link2 Participants responded about daytime functions four times and care-related quality of life and daily parenting interactions once using an online survey. Sleep disturbance was significantly related to all daytime functions and frustration with childcare. Therefore, development of sleep hygiene interventions is warranted to effectively reduce the impact of sleep disturbance and enable these mothers to better tackle daily physical and mental challenges.This study aims to investigate the perception of phonological, grammatical, and semantic structures by 8 children (age range 8;2-9;5) with developmental language disorders (DLD). Another 8 age-matched (age range 8;4-10;0) typically developing (TD) children served as controls. The results demonstrated that children with DLD had lower performance than children with TD in the phonology and grammar tests, corroborating earlier findings, which reported difficulties of children with DLD in discriminating voicing contrasts and perceiving grammatical structures. However, both groups had similar performance in the semantic test. The absence of semantic atypicality can be explained possibly due to the simplicity of the sentences included in the test. The study offers important clinical implications for the identification and treatment of the disorder.Analyzing data from students in the NCES High School Longitudinal Study dataset, we drew upon expectancy-value theory to examine the role of student motivation (measured by self-efficacy, identity, utility, and interest), as mediators between 9th grade math test scores and final math GPA for autistic students. In predicting final high school math GPA, math identity was the strongest predictor for autistic students with above average test scores. Findings for autistic students contrast with results for non-autistic students whose final math GPA is strongly predicted by the direct effects of 9th grade test scores. These results suggest that seeing oneself as a "math person" may be particularly influential for autistic students with higher 9th grade math performance.Schools need effective, generalizable, and socially valid social skills interventions to better support the social inclusion and peer relationships of their students on the autism spectrum. We evaluated a Pivotal Response Treatment-based, naturalistic social skills intervention implemented daily by school personnel in reverse inclusion school settings with four students on the autism spectrum (K-2nd grade). Using a single-case experimental design, results indicated that the students on the autism spectrum showed increases in the percent of time engaged in cooperative play with peers during the intervention (p = .0026) and moderate changes in social interactions were determined through systematic visual analysis. However, the relationship among these co-occurring problems is not well-understood. We analyzed parent reports of GI problems and internalizing symptoms of 621 youth with ASD using path models in a structural equation modeling framework. The best-fitting model was a bidirectional model wherein internalizing symptoms, including withdrawn and anxious behavior, were correlated with GI problems, including constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and stomach pain. Virtual-reality enables researchers to study movement in safe, engaging environments. We used motion-capture to measure how 7-13-year-old autistic and neurotypical children make whole-body movements in a virtual-reality task. Although children in both groups were successful, we observed differences in their movements. Autistic children were less efficient moving to the target. Autistic children did not appear to use a movement strategy. While neurotypical children were more likely to overshoot near targets and undershoot far targets, autistic children did not modulate their strategy. Using kinematic data from tasks in virtual-reality, we can begin to understand the pattern of movement challenges experienced by autistic children.Genomic fusions of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) are a well-established therapeutic target in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Although various ALK fusion variants have been identified in NSCLC, their responses to ALK tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are heterogeneous. We report the case of a 71-year-old female patient diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma with liver metastases. A novel CTNND1 (exon 14)-ALK (exon 20) fusion was identified from the biopsy sample by next-generation sequencing (NGS) and validated by immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining. Alectinib was administered, and the patient soon achieved partial response (PR). The progression-free survival (PFS) exceeded 15 months as of January 25, 2022. Our findings expand the spectrum of ALK rearrangements and provide a potential treatment option for lung adenocarcinoma patients with CTNND1-ALK fusions.
Measurement of heart rate variability (HRV) allows evaluation of autonomic nervous system activity. Decreased HRV is associated with autonomic disbalance, poor health and higher mortality. Our objective is to evaluate the HRV in men with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) through a case-control study.

LUTS were considered as the outcome and HRV variables were considered as exposure. The protocol included anamnesis, LUTS assessment, anthropometry, blood pressure and HRV measurement by analyzing the variation in the time interval between consecutive heartbeats or RR intervals. The mathematical study of HRV indicators allowed the assessment of the cardiac autonomic modulation of the volunteers.

Eighty nine patients were included in the study, with 34 allocated to the case group (with LUTS) and 55 to the control group (without LUTS). The patients were similar in terms of age and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Among the HRV variables, the mean VLF index for the very low frequency of the spectrum associated with the frequency domain was significantly higher in volunteers without LUTS. Control group patients presented a mean of 113.18 ± 166.74 ms
, while patients with LUTS presented a mean of 69.21 ± 61.98 ms
(p = 0.032).

Eighty-nine youth (8-12) with ADHD, ASD, and/or an anxiety disorder receiving treatment at hospital-based outpatient clinics were randomized to receive SAS (n = 47) or TAU (n = 42) over a three-month period, at which point TAU participants were offered the SAS intervention. Parent report showed significant improvement in Emotion Regulation (ER) and Social Skills (SS) for youth in SAS vs. TAU (Fs ≥ 6.79, ps ≤ 01). Gains for the SAS condition were maintained at 6-months. Intent-to-treat analysis of teacher report indicated youth in SAS had positive gains in SS (F = 0.41, p = 0.475) and ER (F = 0.99, p = 0.322), though not significantly better than youth in TAU. Clinically reliable improvement rates were significantly higher for SAS participants than TAU for parent and teacher reported SS and ER. Improvements were significant for youth with single and comorbid diagnoses. Results suggest that SAS was superior to TAU in improving SS and ER for youth aged 8-12 with ADHD, ASD, and/or anxiety. This all-case post-marketing surveillance (PMS) evaluated the real-world safety and effectiveness of nivolumab monotherapy in Japanese patients with un-resectable or metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

This multicenter, open-label, non-interventional, observational PMS study (registered from August 2016 to January 2017) was conducted in patients who were newly initiated on nivolumab monotherapy. Assessments included treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) of special interest, patient characteristics affecting safety, and effectiveness over 12months.

Overall, 580 patients were enrolled; 555 and 554 patients comprised the safety and effectiveness analysis sets, respectively. The median (range) age of the population was 66(14-90) years. Nivolumab was initiated as 1st-, 2nd-, and ≥ 3rd-line treatment in 0.2%, 42.0%, and 57.8% of patients, respectively. TRAEs were reported in 275 (49.5%) patients. The most common TRAEs of special interest included thyroid dysfunction (9.5%), hepatic dysfunction (8.6%), and interstitial lung disease (6.7%). The incidence of TRAEs was significantly higher in elderly patients (≥ 65 vs < 65years; ≥ 75 vs < 75years); patients with lower C-reactive protein levels (< 5 vs ≥ 5mg/dL); and patients with vs without a past medical history, including hepatic, thyroid, and autoimmune diseases. The 6- and 12-month survival rates were 71.8% and 57.9%, respectively.

T2 intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) isdefined as a solitary tumors with vascular invasion or multifocal tumors including satellite lesions, multiple lesions, and intrahepatic metastases. This study aimed to evaluate the prognosis associated with multifocal tumors.

The National Cancer Database was queried from 2004 to 2017 for patients with non-metastatic ICC. The patients were grouped based on T2 staging, multifocality, and lymph node involvement.

The study enrolled and classified 4887 patients into clinical (c) stage groups as follows 15.2% with solitary T2N0 (sT2N0) tumors, 21.3% with multifocal T2N0 (mT2N0) tumors, and 63.5% with node-positive (TxN1) disease. Patients with (c)sT2N0 tumors had higher rates of surgical resection than those with (c)mT2N0 or (c)TxN1 disease (33.5% vs 19.7% vs 15.0%; p < 0.01). Median overall survival (OS) was better for the patients with (c)sT2N0 tumors than for those with multifocal and node-positive disease (15.4 vs 10.4 vs 10.4 months; p < 0.01). Within this work, we propose a novel in silico model for EMG and MMG and test the hypothesis that MMG surpasses EMG in terms of spatial selectivity, i.e. the ability to distinguish spatially shifted sources. The results show that MMG provides a slightly better spatial selectivity than EMG when recorded directly on the muscle surface. However, there is a remarkable difference in spatial selectivity for non-invasive surface measurements. The spatial selectivity of the MMG components aligned with the muscle fibres and normal to the body surface outperforms the spatial selectivity of surface EMG. Particularly, for the MMG's normal-to-the-surface component the influence of subcutaneous fat is minimal. Further, for the first time, we analyse the contribution of different structural components, i.e. muscle fibres from different motor units and the extracellular space, to the measurable biomagnetic field. Notably, the simulations show that for the normal-to-the-surface MMG component, the contribution from volume currents in the extracellular space and in surrounding inactive tissues, is negligible. The novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) caused lethal infections worldwide during an unprecedented pandemic. Identification of the candidate viral epitopes is the first step in the design of vaccines against the viral infection. Several immunoinformatic approaches were employed to identify the SARS-CoV-2 epitopes that bind specifically with the major histocompatibility molecules class I (MHC-I). We utilized immunoinformatic tools to analyze the whole viral protein sequences, to identify the SARS-CoV-2 epitopes responsible for binding to the most frequent human leukocyte antigen (HLA) alleles in the Egyptian population. These alleles were also found with high frequency in other populations worldwide.

Molecular docking approach showed that using the co-crystallized MHC-I and T cell receptor (TCR) instead of using MHC-I structure only, significantly enhanced docking scores and stabilized the conformation, as well as the binding affinity of the identified SARS-CoV-2 epitopes. Our approach directly predicts 7 potenCoV-2 epitopes can facilitate vaccine development to enhance the immunogenicity against SARS-CoV-2 and provide supportive data for further experimental validation. In an online and offline task, we investigate the impact of cognitive load during the processing and recovery of two presupposition triggers-definite descriptions and change-of-state verbs-comparing a group of younger adults with a group of older adults. The collected experimental data show that (1) presupposition recovery declines during normal aging, (2) presupposition recovery of change-of-state verbs is more cognitively demanding for older adults than the recovery of definite descriptions, and lastly (3) presupposition recovery for the change-of-state verb begin is more demanding than the change-of-state verb stop. As of today, few works have directly investigated presupposition processing across the life span. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work revealing that cognitive load directly impacts the recovery of presuppositions across the life span, which in turn suggests an involvement of verbal working memory.Adolescents exposed to child maltreatment are at increased risk for various somatic symptoms, but which psychological factors that contribute to this relationship need to be further investigated. Emotion dysregulation is suggested to serve as a proximal link between child maltreatment and somatic complaints. The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether individual differences in affective inhibitory control, a central component in implicit emotion regulation, contribute to the risk of somatic symptoms in adolescents exposed to child maltreatment. Data were drawn from the UEVO study, a national population-based survey of adolescents between 12 and 16 years of age (N = 9240). For this study, we included participants who completed the emotional go/no-go task measuring affective inhibitory control (N = 7241; Mage/SD = 14 years/.87; 52% girls, 47% boys), of which N = 3349 reported at least one incident of maltreatment exposure (57% girls, 41% boys). Exposure to psychological abuse and sexual abuse were associated with somatic symptoms. Affective inhibitory control was related to somatic symptoms, both in the total sample and in adolescents exposed to child maltreatment. The strength of relationships between exposure to psychological abuse and somatic symptoms, as well as sexual abuse and somatic symptoms, were moderated by individual differences in affective inhibitory control problems. Our study suggests that psychological abuse and sexual abuse increase the risk for somatic symptoms in adolescence. Affective inhibitory control, a central component in implicit emotion regulation, was related to somatic symptoms and moderated the relationships between psychological abuse and somatic symptoms, and sexual abuse and somatic symptoms. Revealing these associations in a population-based sample indicates that treatment targeting affective inhibitory control may be beneficial and should be explored further in clinical settings.The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends adults complete 150-300 min per week of moderate physical activity or 75-150 min of vigorous physical activity or an equivalent combination of both, to optimize health. To explore the factors associated with adequate MVPA in stabilized outpatients with schizophrenia. 425 stabilized outpatients were recruited in the national FACE-SZ cohort between 2015 and 2018 were evaluated with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire and a 1-day long standardized battery. We explored in multivariate analyses the clinical and pharmacological factors associated with MVPA (model 1) and the biological factors and patient-reported outcomes (model 2). Overall, only 86 (20.2%) of the 425 participants achieved the recommended MVPA threshold. In model 1, the adequate MVPA group was associated with younger age, mood stabilizers prescription and adherence to treatment, independent of sex, positive and depressive symptoms, first-generation antipsychotics prescription, anxiolytic medication, and akathisia. In model 2, adequate MVPA was associated with better glycemic and lipidic profile and better physical and psychological well-being, self-esteem, sentimental life, and resilience independently of age, sex, and current psychotic severity. The expert centers recommend the importance of promoting promote effective MVPA programs for stabilized patients with schizophrenia. Interventions studies suggest that MVPA may be a useful strategy to maximize physical and psychological well-being and self-esteem and potentially to prevent or manage metabolic disturbances.Phosphorus (P) deficiency is one of the major limitations for soybean production. Moreover, it has been well reported P and other mineral elements function interdependently or antagonistically to control nutrients homeostasis in plants. Thus, it is urgently needed to understand the genetic mechanism of the accumulation of mineral elements in response to low-P stress. In this study, to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and candidate genes controlling the accumulation of mineral elements suffering low-P stress in seedling stage of soybean plants, we measured concentrations of mineral elements, including P, Zn, Fe, Mn, Mg and Ca, in shoots of 211 soybean accessions under normal phosphorus (+P) and low phosphorus (-P) conditions in two hydroponic experiments. And genome-wide association study (GWAS) using high density NJAU 355K SoySNP array and concentrations of five of these mineral elements except P was performed. A total of 36 SNPs distributed on 13 chromosomes were identified to be significantly associated with low-P tolerance, and nine SNPs on chromosome 10 formed a SNP cluster. Meanwhile, the candidate gene GmFeB1 was found to serve as a negative regulator element involved in soybean P metabolism and the haplotype1 (Hap1) of GmFeB1 showed significantly higher shoot Fe concentration under -P condition than that of Hap2. In summary, we uncover 36 SNPs significantly associated with shoot mineral elements concentrations under different P conditions and a soybean low-P related gene GmFeB1, which will provide additional genetic information for soybean low-P tolerance and new gene resources for P-efficient soybean varieties breeding.
A mobile device-based resilience training programme has been found to improve psychological well-being in parents of children with cancer. However, the essential elements underlying the programme's efficacy and the factors that affect parents' advocacy of the online resilience training remain unknown. This study explored the lived experience of engaging in a mobile device-based resilience training programme in parents of children with cancer.

A descriptive phenomenological approach was used. Parents of children with cancer who had received the mobile device-based resilience training in a previous randomised controlled trial were selected to attend one-to-one semi-structured interviews. All interviews were audio-recorded. Data were analysed using Colaizzi's descriptive phenomenological method.

Twenty-one parents, comprising 15 mothers and 6 fathers, of children with cancer participated in the interview. The two following themes were identified perceptions about the training (be beneficial for psychological well-being, be beneficial for parent-child communication and be beneficial for coping) and evaluation of the training (increased knowledge and skills, be satisfied with the intervention form and content, challenges to adhere to the programme and recommendations for future interventions).

This study explored which features of a mobile device-based resilience training programme improved the psychological well-being of parents of children with cancer. link3 Its findings highlight the importance of providing a resilience training programme that is based on the parents' intervention form preferences and their mental health needs.

This study was designed to explore the effects of mechanical force on the proliferation, apoptosis, and morphology of stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous tooth pulp (SHEDs).

Caries-free stranded deciduous teeth were extracted, and SHEDs were isolated through enzymatic digestion. The cultured SHEDs were subjected to different levels of mechanical stimuli (0, 100, 200, and 300g) for 7days (30min/day) using external centrifugal force. Cell proliferation was evaluated with the CCK-8 assay, and the cell cycle and apoptosis were assessed by flow cytometry. The cell morphology was examined using transmission electron microscopy.

Cell proliferation assay showed no differences between the three stimulation groups and the control group in day 1 to day 3. From the 4th day, cell proliferation was significantly lower in the mechanical force groups than in the control group, but no significant difference was observed among the three mechanical force groups. Besides, there was no significant difference in cell apoptosis among the four groups for 7days. On day 7 after stimulation, the SHEDs were shrunken, with significantly increased isochromosome in the nucleus and an increase in lysosomes.

Mechanical force can inhibit the proliferation and affect morphology of SHEDs, but it has no effect on cell apoptosis.

Investigate the effect of erosive challenge with hydrochloric acid (HCl) on the surface of five different restorative materials.

Ten plates of five restorative materials (Admira Fusion, Activa BioActive-Restorative, Charisma, Equia Forte HT Fil/EF, Filtek Universal Restorative/FU) were obtained. Half of the plate surfaces was covered with an adhesive tape, creating a control area, and the other side was submitted to the HCl (0.06M HCl; pH 1.2; at 37°C; for 30h). Plates with control and HCl-treated areas were analyzed regarding the surface roughness (Sa), roughness profile (Rv), surface loss (SL), microhardness (MI), and gloss (GL) (n = 10). Surface morphology was analyzed by SEM and chemical elements were identified by EDX (n = 5). Data were evaluated by ANOVA and Tukey's test (α = 0.05).

Most materials were not affected by HCl. FU showed the lowest Sa and Rv, and the highest GL after HCl. On the other hand, EF presented the highest Sa, Rv, and SL, and the lowest GL. The MI of materials was not changed after HCl. Topographical and chemical alterations were observed after HCl only for EF.

The composites showed minor surface changes after HCl, which was not observed for the glass ionomer cement (EF). FU presented the best performance regarding the parameters evaluated.

Avoidance of and/or removal of carbon dioxide will result in the reduction of global warming. Biosequestration of carbon by using carbonic anhydrase (CA) as biocatalyst is one of most effective approaches. In the present study, actinobacterial cultures isolated from bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris) rhizosphere were screened for the production of carbonic anhydrase enzyme. The strain BS19 which showed promising CA production was selected as the potential strain. Strain BS19 was identified as Streptomyces kunmingensis based on the phenotypic and molecular characteristics. In submerged fermentation, strain BS19 produced 214.21 IU/ml of CA enzyme. The molecular mass of the CA was determined as 45 ± 2 kDa. The production of CA was found to be optimal at pH 7.0 and at temperature of 28 °C. The full length periplasmic CA gene was successfully amplified from S. link3 kunmingensis BS19. Biomimetic sequestration of carbon was detected and quantified through CaCO3 precipitation method. Further, the CA of BS 19 was successfully used to mineralize CO2 present in motorbike exhaust, which has a similar composition to that of flue gas. The well-defined rhombohedral calcite crystals formed in the mineral carbonation reaction was observed through SEM analysis. The findings of this study clearly indicated that Streptomyces kunmingensis BS19 isolated from bamboo rhizosphere is a promising candidate for the production of carbonic anhydrase which deserves the potential for CO2 sequestration.
To identify the recurrence rate and risk factors for recurrence in patients with juvenile-onset recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (JORRP).

A retrospective review was performed for all JORRP patients who underwent surgery between 2002 and 2019 at our institution. The demographic characteristics and clinical parameters were recorded. Kaplan-Meier estimates and Cox proportional hazards models were used to analyze the rate of recurrence and its risk factors.

Our study included 721 patients. The cumulative recurrence rates at 1, 5, and 10 postoperative years following initial surgery were 74.2%, 90.0%, and 94.3%, respectively. Age at diagnosis younger than 4.5years (HR = 2.380, 95% CI [1.169-4.846], P = 0.017), high Derkay anatomical score (HR = 1.136, 95% CI [1.043-1.236], P = 0.003) and HPV type 11 infection (HR = 2.947, 95% CI [1.326-6.551], P = 0.008) were independent risk factors for recurrence. Adjuvant therapy with interferon was less likely to recur (HR = 0.237, 95% CI [0.091-0.616], P = 0.003). Additionally, gender, tracheotomy, mode of delivery, parity, expression of Ki-67, HPV vaccination, and surgical treatment method were not independently associated with recurrence (P > 0.05).
