A review about recent trends associated with antiviral nanoparticles along with air filtration: special awareness on COVID-19 virus.
evant, easy-to-use tool for routine depression screening in older patients with cancer. Asking four questions might enable physicians to screen older patients with cancer for depression and then guide them toward further clinical evaluation and appropriate care if required.
Considering the overlap between symptoms of cancer and symptoms of depression, depression is particularly difficult to assess in older geriatric oncology and is associated with poor outcomes; there is a need for a routine psychological screening. Self-report instruments like the 4-item version of the Geriatric Depression Scale appears to be a clinically relevant, easy-to-use tool for routine depression screening in older patients with cancer. Asking four questions might enable physicians to screen older patients with cancer for depression and then guide them toward further clinical evaluation and appropriate care if required.Prostate cancer remains the leading diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of death among American men. Despite improvements in screening modalities, diagnostics, and treatment, disparities exist among Black men in this country. The primary objective of this systematic review is to describe the reported disparities in screening, diagnostics, and treatments as well as efforts to alleviate these disparities through community and educational outreach efforts. Critical review took place of retrospective, prospective, and socially descriptive data of English language publications in the PubMed database. Despite more advanced presentation, lower rates of screening and diagnostic procedures, and low rates of trial inclusion, subanalyses have shown that various modalities of therapy are quite effective in Black populations. Moreover, patients treated on prospective clinical trials and within equal-access care environments have shown similar outcomes regardless of race. Additional prospective studies and enhanced participation in screening, diagnostic and genetic testing, clinical trials, and community-based educational endeavors are important to ensure equitable progress in prostate cancer for all patients. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Notable progress has been made with therapeutic advances for prostate cancer, but racial disparities continue to exist. Differing rates in screening and utility in diagnostic procedures play a role in these disparities. Black patients often present with more advanced disease, higher prostate-specific antigen, and other adverse factors, but outcomes can be attenuated in trials or in equal-access care environments. Recent data have shown that multiple modalities of therapy are quite effective in Black populations. Novel and bold hypotheses to increase inclusion in clinical trial, enhance decentralized trial efforts, and enact successful models of patient navigation and community partnership are vital to ensure continued progress in prostate cancer disparities.Plant phenology is highly sensitive to climate change, and shifts in autumnal foliar senescence are critical for plant productivity and nutrient cycling. Global warming has delayed the timing of foliar senescence, but the response of autumnal foliar senescence to nonuniform seasonal warming remains poorly understood, with experimental evidence in trees especially scarce. We therefore conducted a field experiment on seasonally asymmetric warming on 2-year-old larch (Larix principis-rupprechtii) seedlings in two hydrologically contrasting years (wet 2018 and dry 2019). Autumnal and year-round warming significantly delayed the timing of foliar senescence by 6 and 7 d in 2018, the wet year, with corresponding temperature sensitivities of 6.73 ± 1.47 and 8.26 ± 1.00 d/°C, respectively. Interestingly, the dates of senescence did not change across the warming treatments in 2019, the dry year. However, there was no significant effect of summer warming on the timing of foliar senescence neither in the wet nor dry year. The delayed autumnal foliar senescence was responsible for an increase in biomass only in the wet year, 2018. In contrast, summer warming, but not autumnal warming, increased the mortality of the seedlings in both 2018 and 2019. These results suggest that the hydrological conditions substantially modify the response of autumnal phenology and growth to seasonal warming. Autumnal warming increases growth, whereas summer warming could cause carbon starvation/hydraulic failure, reduce growth, and lead to higher mortality. Our results suggest that the functioning, ecosystem services, and sustainability of forests in the future depend on the strength and pattern of nonuniform seasonal warming. This study can inspire new research in phenology and tree growth in experiments with asymmetric warming.Predicting metal sensitivities and metal mixture interactions for species within each trophic level is essential to understand the effects of metals at the ecosystem level. Decitabine nmr The present study was set up to explore the correlations of metal sensitivities among species and if these sensitivities or metal mixture interactions are related to growth or morphological traits. The toxicity of Ni, Cu, and Zn on algal growth was tested for 8 freshwater algal species when dosed singly and in combinations in phosphorus-limiting static systems. The metal sensitivities on specific growth rate (10% effect concentrations expressed as free ion activities) varied 2 to 3 orders of magnitude among species depending on metal. These sensitivities were unrelated (p > 0.05) to their specific growth rate (0.7-1.8 d-1 ) or cell volume (100 -103 m3  cell-1 ). Species-specific differences in one or more toxicokinetic and/or toxicodynamic (TKTD) processes are likely at the basis of this variation. The log-transformed metal sensitivities positively correlated (p  less then  0.1) among the species in all 3 binary combinations (Ni-Cu, Ni-Zn, and Cu-Zn), suggesting that species have correlated TKTD rates for these metals. Furthermore, they would also predict stronger effects of metal mixtures on algal community biodiversity than what would be expected without a positive correlation. Low-level metal mixture effects varied similarly, largely among species and mixture interactions that were highly variable ranging from synergistic to antagonistic relative to independent action during exponential growth, whereas mixture interactions at 10% effect shifted toward additivity/synergism relative to concentration addition at carrying capacity. Some evidence was found for stronger synergistic mixture effects in smaller species. Overall, the present study highlights the importance of incorporating more species in sensitivity distributions and accounting for mixture toxicity in risk assessment.
