HW 2: What resonated with me about the Hayao Miyazaki article is that there were multiple times in his life where he said he would be completely done with animation, yet years later he would come back like nothing ever happened. In my life I feel as though even when I could say that I am completely done with something, I don’t think it would ever truly last, at least a few years down the line. I can imagine myself being burnt out on a particular project or series of projects just like Miyazaki’s, only for me to announce that I “call it quits” and later on return after creative juices within me had replenished over time.

HW 3: A drawing that inspires me is the album cover for the artist Casino Versus Japan’s 2000 album Go Hawaii, drawn by Heather King. The cover features three kid-sized figure drawn over a few blotches of the color green over what appears to be a wrinkled bag texture. Assuming that it was drawn in crayon, what I like about the cover is that it conveys a sense of childhood nostalgia from a few child characters in crayon not unlike what many people would draw themselves as a child. The thing of about the piece that is truly inspirational for me is that fact that the colors pop out every time I take a glance at the cover. The colorful children on top of the green blotches makes the piece visually appealing to my eyes, and the fact that it appears to be resting on a paper bag makes the art have a fragile quality to it, making it have a sense of preciousness to me. When I do get started on making more art pieces, I hope to make my works as visually appealing as the Go Hawaii album cover.
