Finally, a feature of this protocol is exploring the utilization of ultrasonication as an eco-friendly alternative conventional heating method for N-cyanoacylation and synthesis of N-substituted pyridinone derivatives and as a coupling method for the formation of an amide bond, which might be of interest for many researchers.A sol/gel curing method is used in this work to synthesize hybrid partially bio-based polyhydroxyurethanes (PHUs) from dicarbonates derived from glycerol and various diamines. The method consists of end-capping the PHU prepolymers with moisture-sensitive groups, so sealants and adhesives can be produced from partially sustainable hybrid PHUs (HPHUs), similar to their preparation from end-capped conventional polyurethanes. Diglycerol dicarbonate (DGC) is synthesized and polymerized with different diamines of various chain lengths, and the resulting structural and thermal properties of the PHUs are qualitatively and quantitively characterized. This characterization led to two potential candidates PHU 4, made of DGC and a poly(propylene glycol) diamine, and PHU 10, prepared from DGC and a poly(dimethylsiloxane) diamine. These polymers, with respective relative number-average molecular weights of 3200 and 7400 g/mol, are end-capped and left to cure under ambient lab conditions (22 °C and 40-50% humidity), and the curing processes are monitored rheologically. Notably, moisture curing does not require any catalyst. The chemical stability of the resulting hybrid PHUs (HPHUs) 4 and 10 in pure water is investigated to check the viability of applying them under outdoor conditions. Only HPHU 10 is found to be resistant to water and shows hydrophobicity with a contact angle of 109°. Tensile tests are conducted on HPHU 10 samples cured under lab conditions for a week and others cured for another week while being immersed in water. The mechanical properties, tensile strength and elongation at break, improve with the samples cured in water, indicating the high-water repellency of HPHU 10.In this study, novel ternary composites were prepared, including biodegradable poly(ethylene succinate) (PESu), poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), and graphene oxide (GO). We have conducted a comprehensive study on whether GO can successfully promote the crystallization behaviors of PESu in the ternary composites. The results of isothermal crystallization demonstrated that with the increase of GO content in the composite (at a fixed PESu/PEG ratio), the Avrami rate constant k gradually increased, indicating that the crystallization rate was faster when GO was added to the composite. The same phenomenon was also found for nonisothermal crystallization. It was found that the Mo model can adequately describe the nonisothermal crystallization behaviors of the composites. The analyses demonstrated that the F(T) value estimated from the Mo model decreased when the GO content was increased. This result implied that GO promoted the nonisothermal crystallization of PESu in the ternary PESu/PEG/GO composites. Discussions on nucleation activity and microscopy observations confirmed that GO can act as a nucleation agent to further enhance the crystallization of the composites. The significant nucleation effect of GO on PESu in its novel ternary composite was first discovered in this study.β-Thujaplicin possess a variety of biological activities. The use of modified biological nanoparticles (NPs) to develop novel anti-influenza drugs has increased in recent years. Selleckchem Fasiglifam Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) with antiviral activity have attracted increasing attention for biomedical intervention. Functionalized SeNPs by β-thujaplicin (Se@TP) surface modified with superior antiviral activity were synthesized in this study. Compared to a virus group (43%), when treated with Se@TP (88%), the cell survival rate of MDCK cells was 45% higher. Se@TP could inhibit H1N1 from infecting Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells and block chromatin condensation and DNA fragmentation. Se@TP obviously prevented MDCK cells from generating reactive oxygen species. Furthermore, Se@TP prevents lung injury in H1N1-infected mice through eosin staining and hematoxylin in vivo. Mechanistic investigation revealed that Se@TP inhibited H1N1 influenza virus from infecting MDCK cells through induction of apoptosis via suppressing AKT and p53 signaling pathways through immunohistochemical assay. Our results suggest that β-thujaplicin-modified SeNPs as carriers are an efficient way to achieve an antiviral pharmaceutical candidate for H1N1 influenza. The testicular receptor 4 (TR4) is a nuclear receptor implicated in multiple pathological processes, including cancer development, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy resistance. However, no effective TR4 small-molecule regulator is available to date. Here, we assessed a physical-interaction-based surface plasmon resonance imaging assay for discovery of TR4 regulators. We screened 1018 FDA-approved drugs and obtained 126 drugs with KD values below 10-6 M. The dual-luciferase-based biological assay verified four activatory compounds and two inhibitory compounds against TR4. Among them, nilotinib exhibited the most potent inhibitor, with an EC50 of 1.05 μM, while genistein represented the most potent activator, with an EC50 of 2.42 μM. Both drugs were predicted to bind in the ligand binding pocket of TR4. The circular dichroism spectroscopic assay revealed differed conformation changes upon nilotinib or genistein binding. These results established our combined physical and biological approaches as a highly effective way to identify and develop new TR4 regulators. In this study, we showed that doping bismuth (Bi) at the surface of Fe0 (Bi/Fe0, bimetallic iron system)-synthesized by a simple borohydride reduction method-can considerably accelerate the reductive degradation of chloramphenicol (CHP). At a reaction time of 12 min, 62, 68, 74, 95, and 82% degradation of CHP was achieved with Fe0, Bi/Fe0-1 [1% (w/w) of Bi], Bi/Fe0-3 [3% (w/w) of Bi], Bi/Fe0-5 [5% (w/w) of Bi], and Bi/Fe0-8 [8% (w/w) of Bi], respectively. Further improvements in the degradation efficiency of CHP were observed by combining the peroxymonosulfate (HSO5-) with Bi/Fe0-5 (i.e., 81% by Bi/Fe0-5 and 98% by the Bi/Fe0-5/HSO5- system at 8 min of treatment). Interestingly, both Fe0 and Bi/Fe0-5 showed effective H2 production under dark conditions that reached 544 and 712 μM by Fe0 and Bi/Fe0-5, respectively, in 70 mL of aqueous solution containing 0.07 g (i.e., at 1 g L-1 concentration) of the catalyst at ambient temperature.Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) in transformer oil is a workable approach to evaluate the operation status of transformers. In this paper, we proposed a Cu-doped Se-vacancy MoSe2 (Cu-MoSe2) monolayer as a promising sensing material for DGA based on first-principles theory. Three typical dissolved gases, namely, CO, C2H2, and C2H4, are the representatives to investigate the potential of the Cu-MoSe2 monolayer upon their adsorption and sensing. Our results indicate that Cu-doping causes strong n-doping for the Se-vacancy MoSe2 monolayer, and the Cu-MoSe2 monolayer exhibits strong chemisorption the three gas molecules, with a calculated adsorption energy (Ead) of -1.25, -1.06, and -1.16 eV, respectively. Such strong interactions lead to remarkable changes in the electrical conductivity of the Cu-MoSe2 monolayer, allowing its application as a resistance-type sensor. Besides, work function (WF) analysis shows the potential of the Cu-MoSe2 monolayer as a promising field-effect transistor sensor as well. It is our hope that our work can stimulate more leading-edge studies of the TM-doped MoSe2 monolayer for sensing applications in many fields.Six new polyketides named paraverrucsins A-F (1-6) with oxabicyclic and dioxatricyclic skeletons, together with eight known metabolites (7-14), were discovered and isolated from the fermentation medium of Paraphaeosphaeria verruculosa. Paraverrucsin A-C possessed a novel decarboxylated skeleton compared with that of trichocladinols. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectral analysis and DP4+ calculations. Paraverrucsins B/C and D/E were isolated as a mixture for the mutarotation occurred at C-2. Paraverrucsins B/C, D/E, F/trichocladinol B, 8, and 9 displayed antifeedant activities against silkworm larvae, with antifeedant index percentages ranging from 62.5 to 93.0%, at a concentration of 50 μg/cm2. Among them, Paraverrucsins B/C and 9 had EC50 values at 13.9 and 18.2 μg/cm2. Most compounds showed antifungal activities against phytopathogenic fungi with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 16-64 μg/mL. Coculture of P. verruculosa and host plant Dendrobium officinale leads to the enhancement of antifeedant and antiphytopathogenic activities. Compounds 1, 2/3, 4/5, 6/14 were tested for cytotoxicity against five human carcinoma cell lines, HL-60, A549, MCF-7, SW480, and SMMC-7721, while they exhibited selected cytotoxicity against SW480 with inhibition ratios of 32-38% at a concentration of 40 μM.This study aimed to explore the dynamic variations in the phenolic and volatile organic compounds of sugarcane vinegar subjected to different production processes. The determination of phenolic and volatile organic compounds was performed by UPLC-MS and solid phase micro extraction (SPME) coupled with gas chromatography combined with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The complete fermentation process of sugarcane lasted nine days, and production of vinegar of up to 3.04% (w/v), total acids, and 4.1° alcoholicity was accomplished. Various phenolic compounds of sugarcane juice (non-sterilized) and those of alcoholic and acetic acid fermentation were obtained after nine days of fermentation. These were benzoic acid (2.024, 1.002, and 1.027 mg L-1), ferulic acid (0.060, 0.205, and 1.124 mg L-1), quinic acid (0.019, 0.074, and 0.031 mg L-1), chlorogenic acid (0.349, 1.635, and 1.217 mg L-1), apigenin (0.002, 0.099, and 0.004 mg L-1), kaempferol (0.003, 0.336, and 0.003 mg L-1), caffeic acid (-, 0.005, and 0.005 mg L-1), luteolin (0.003, 0.323, and 0.005 mg L-1), and p-coumaric acid (0.018, 0.015, and 0.027 mg L-1). Forty-five volatile organic compounds were also identified. The sugarcane juice can be commercialized as an alternative to wine as it presents characteristics of an alcoholic fermented beverage.Ionic liquids have significantly enhanced ecofriendly benefits compared to the traditional inhibitors. In the present work, new four polymeric ionic liquids based on benzoimidazole derivatives were synthesized through the reaction of 2-styryl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole with alkyl halide to form PIL1. Then, Cl- anions were exchanged with different anions through the neutralization reaction to form other investigated polymers. Their structures were chemically elucidated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. Their influence on carbon steel (CS) as corrosion inhibitors has been checked with dielectric spectroscopy in addition to potentiodynamic polarization curves. It was found that the percentage of inhibition efficiency increases as inhibitor's concentrations increase, suggesting a decrease in the rate of CS corrosion. Additionally, the hydrogen evolution rate controlled by the four polymers was monitored. Addition of the prepared polymers lessened the rate of generation of hydrogen as the inhibitor's concentrations augmented.
